Technician
Description By using a variety of wood products,
Carpenter is the person who draws the shapes and takes place in the production process of interior furniture both fixed and movable ones such as table, coffee table, sofa, chairs, cabinets, etc.
Tasks Prepares tools and measurement instruments, Prepares a work plan, Makes cost calculations and determines the price, Draws the picture of the work and makes sizing, Prepares the list of materials and obtains them, Prepares a template and mold, Prepares the machine, Processes the timber, Cuts the door surface and the filler material, Can make wooden doors, windows, garden furniture, terrace, porch and
sauna, Makes wooden furnishing of floors, ceilings and walls, Makes wooden stairs, Makes mounting and demounting, Mounts doors and windows, Makes size and quality control checks of the product, Makes storage and delivery, Takes place in the activities related to vocational education.
TOOLS MACHINES AND THE EQUIPMENT
All kinds of hand tools and machines (hammer, pliers, Rende, file types, etc. Hand Mill.)
Wood and work counters, Wood prossesing machines (planing machine, sanding machine, and so on.)
Grinding Machines, Sawing Machines (Tape, circle, jigsaw), All kinds of tools and tool & toolholders (clamp, stabila spirit
levels, hose scales). CNC machines, profile machines, edge banding machines,
Drilling machines (vertical, horizontal, chain, pneumatic), Measurement control and marking devices (meters, pencils,
Cutter pens, Tape, Painting, Drawing Tools, etc.). Drills, drill bits-knot, Ray and machine types, types of glue
and screws.
REQUIRED PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Anyone who wishes to be a wood joinery manufacturing technician should bear following physical properties.
- have functioning Visual and auditory sensory organs, - be able to use eyes and hands in a coordinated way, - be able to stand up for a long time, healthy and fit
physically to work, - Be patient, careful, meticulous and cautious, - have the ability to drawing, detect the details and
ability in three-dimensional thinking, - can work in dusty, fragrant and noisy environments,
with machines.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS
Wood Joinery Manufacturing Technicians work at factories, in workshop and assembly stages. Operating environment is noisy, dusty and covered with sawdust. They usually work while standing. From time to time they work independently, and sometimes they work as a team. It’s practice primarily depends on tools and machines.
WORK FIELDS AND OPPORTUNITIES TO FIND A WORK
The opportunity to find work in the profession is very high. The furniture industry have developed a lot especially in Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa and Kayseri provinces, so there is a large work space. The work usually focuses on the private institutions. These people can either start their own business or work in the large industrial enterprises and small-scale enterprises. In the cities where the construction sector
is active and intense, thet can find work more easily.

The education for this job isgiven Vocational High Schools, Anatolian High Schools, Tehcnique High Schools, Anatolian Technique High Schools. In the Wood technoloji depeartments, construction Departments and wood Joşnery Manufacturing Departments.
DURATION AND CONTENT OF THE EDUCATION
Duration of the education is 4 years. The syllabus is the same in all Vocational high schools. In the 9the grade they follow the same programme as
classical high schools. At the end of the 9th grade they choose the field to
study from the 10th grade and on. They learn common lessons in all fiends at grades 9
and 10. At 11th and 12th grades they take lessons special to
their fields of study. At the 12th grade all students spend at least two days
a week at workshops in the institutions outside the school.
PROMOTION IN THE CAREER
Graduates from the “Wood Technology”, “Wood Joinery Manufacturing” fields can go on their education for two-year degree at the university. They can study at “Woodworks”, “Furniture and Decoration” Forestry and Forest Products” departments.
In addition, If they pass the university entrance exam, they can study in Furniture and Decoration Teacher Training Department. In this case they are given extra point comparing to the ones applying from other fields. When they graduate from the university, they can work as a teacher at Vocational High schools and vocational Training Centres.
