Characters

Scheherazade

Ali

Princess Jamillah

The Evil Abanazar

The Genie of the Lamp

The Spirit of the Ring

Synopsis

Scheherazade has been telling stories for one thousand

nights. She needs one more to entertain her husband, the

sultan, so she comes out with the idea of telling the story of

a poor, noble-hearted boy called Ali

Ali meets a girl called Jamillah and falls for her (as she is

both beautiful and cool, as he mentions) but soon discovers

that she is a princess and her father would not let a poor

“street rat” like him marry her

So, when the evil sorcerer Abanazar asks for Ali’s help

offering fame and fortune in return, the poor boy takes the

bait.

With the help of two magical creatures (the little Spirit of

the Ring and the mighty-powerful-extraordinaire Genie of

the Lamp) our hero will have to conquer love and stay

away from Abanazar’s evil plan.

Activities For teachers:

This workpack is divided into different levels, taking into account learners’ age and level of language acquired.

As you may notice, the same play may cater for an ample age range.

This is due to an important innovation meant to suit different students’ needs and interests.

This means that while different age groups may be viewing the same play the various pre and post language activities in the

workpack attend to a different level.

Teachers are thus able to provide students with details about the story

and the characters before they come to the theatre, and also with follow-up activities.

This play is suitable for students whose level of English equivalent to:

A2 and B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
