We watched Ben Hur. This film ties in the Roman World, Culture, 5 themes of Geography, Beliefs Systems and general themes of Internal Conflict. You had an extensive guide to fill out throughout the film. This is a participation exercise, so there is no real way to make up the film unless you can find it on over the holidays. I will also have an alternative make-up assignment that requires a research paper, so please see me for instructions and directions.

I hope your 2 weeks off are wonderful and restful. You all have been working so hard and we are proud of you Happy Holidays…see you in the New year!

Roman Map Game: Today was your first chance at learning the geography of the Ancient Roman World. You only played the game for about 20-30 minutes. It was an introduction on how to play it so you will know what to do in the future. You must have had your map completed to play this today! I came around to check it for points!

We also looked at the Roman Republic and how their government was set up to operate. You were given a handout that will be due tomorrow (PM Class) and next Thursday (AM Class). Please be prepared to discuss the handout in class. There was also discovery learning going on today. We had a ITUNES Activity today that explained the concept of the Roman Government.

Desktop teaching activity using the active texting devices: Each POD received a topic and they had to work with others deciding what to text to the rest of the class. Each POD had to tell the class what was important about their subject. Each student had to take notes on each other’s work. I also incorporated movie clips throughout the assignment. You were to take notes on the film by making historical observations. I will collect this in the end. This assignment will take a couple class periods. This assignment gives insight to Rome’s origin and how it developed.

If you missed this assignment, you must outline the entire section 6.1 in detail.

YOU MUST BRING YOUR BOOK EVERYDAY FOR THIS ENTIRE UNIT!!!

1) We started off class by showing you a new discovery found in Turkey. It dates back 12,000 years and changes the way we see Mesopotamia as the possible first civilization. We then had a discussion.

2) We took a look at the theme of “Internal Conflict” by tracing other major civilizations through the Mesopotamian world. We used texting devices to reinforce the learning. We also looked in depth at “Fatalism” and the role it played in the ancient world.
