Sophie is having an a-ack of the existen3al life crises. A8er losing her job and ability to write, she picks up a part 3me gig as a cater waiter. At her first event, Sophie meets Alex, a sexy-‐girl-‐enigma who leans against walls and gets into trouble. But, Sophie has a live-‐in girlfriend, Kat. Torn between the excitement of the unknown, and the trappings of the known, Sophie has to choose not just who, but what, she wants.

When the script opens we find two unlikely women, Sophie and Kat, having a chance encounter turned impromptu date in New York City. We then jump to two years later. The two have shacked up in Brooklyn, and Kat is a-emp3ng to get pregnant. Things are geJng very adult, and very real. Except, Sophie just lost her job, ability to write, and is generally finding herself uninspired. In an a-empt to build some structure back into her days, Sophie takes a job catering, much to the chagrin of Kat (a no bullshit ad exec in her own right). At her first catering event, Sophie meets Alex, the kind of rebellious and mysterious type you’d totally fall for in high school. Sophie is trying on a bona fide regression for size, and is smi-en from day one. Sophie and Alex flirt, drink from flasks, and avoid any kind of work in lieu of trading jokes and secret glances. When Kat’s job takes her to London for nearly two weeks, Sophie is free to explore this new flirta3on. Both, Sophie and Kat’s rela3onship is tested during this period, but only Sophie succumbs to tempta3on. Kat returns from London with a new found zeal, both for Sophie and the rela3onship. During Kat’s absence, Sophie landed a job at her best friend Kevin’s literary agency, and is finally crawling out of her yearlong funk. It seems like the rushed affair between Sophie and Alex was a 3ny bump on the road to true adulthood. But, Sophie can’t shake Alex from her thoughts. When Kat surprises Sophie by popping the ques3on, she collapses into a full fledged panic a-ack, and admits to having feelings for someone else. Kat is floored, and calls off the rela3onship. Newly single and seemingly in the throes of a new passion, Sophie pays Alex a visit, only to discover Alex is in a rela3onship of her own. Realizing the magnitude of her mistake, Sophie a-empts to win back Kat’s affec3ons by interrup3ng her on a date with a grand cinema3c gesture. Kat rebuffs her a-empt, and Sophie is le8 alone with her decision. The final scene finds Kat and Sophie in another chance encounter outside of a Whole Foods. This 3me Kat is very pregnant. The two women walk side-‐by-‐side onto a busy street, a hopeful note of reconcilia3on hanging in the air.
Story
Locations
KAT: Are you hiJng on me? SOPHIE: Completely. Have you been with a woman? It’s okay if you haven’t. They called me the gateway drug in college. Wait.... That sounded creepier than I intended.
SOPHIE: (whispering) I like you. KAT: (s-ll whispering) No, I said Benjamin -‐ SOPHIE: (cu1ng her off) I know. And, I said, I like you. KAT: (s-ll whispering) I like you, too.
SOPHIE: Oh, wait, okay, are you leaving? KEVIN: Soph, I've got a million stupid mee3ngs tomorrow morning. One of which with some guy who re-‐tweeted the Cons3tu3on and believes it warrants a book deal. I’m like: The Cons3tu3on is already wri-en, Fucktard.
ALEX: Frank, we should do re-‐realiza3ons of major movies. But, like, from, other characters' perspec3ves. FRANK: Okay, let's try.... Ohhhh.... How about Forrest Gump? That s3nk-‐a-‐roni. SOPHIE: Clearly that would be from Jenny's perspec3ve. She'd have a terrible childhood, become a drug addict, develop AIDS, get impregnated by a mentally challenged man, give birth to their son and DIE. FRANK: Shit. What would you call it? SOPHIE: Peas N' Carrots: The Jenny Gump Story.
ALEX: Please. You reek of long term rela3onship. You have that look of panic every 3me you check your phone. SOPHIE: I could have a boyfriend. ALEX: No, you couldn't. SOPHIE: Why? ALEX: 'Cus you don't like boys.
SIMON: You always thought I was tough enough to handle my own stuff. But, nobody is. Really. Maybe you have more pa3ence for... Who you're with now? KAT: I did. But, my reservoir's been a bit depleted as of late.
SOPHIE: Can I walk with you for a bit? KAT: You don’t need anything from inside? SOPHIE: Whole Foods isn’t going anywhere.

Tone
The script toes the line between a universal roman3c comedy and a quirky indie flick. The humor is at 3mes silly, irreverent and peppered with lots of pop culture references. But, the conversa3on can flip into the gut-‐punching-‐ly serious just as easily. There’s a sense of improvisa3on to the dialogue. A lot of 3me is spent in bars, restaurants and goofing off at work, and a natural pa-er to the banter should occur between characters. There should be quick, metropolitan exchanges that occur between people living on the borrowed 3me between subway placorms, hec3c jobs, and nearly missed appointments.
