Written Examination The written examination will be conducted on March 3, 2012. The examination is called “FireTEAM Emergency Response Selection System.” The examination includes four tests: FireTEAM, video-based test of human relations Firefighters interact with the public, often in very difficult circumstances. How a firefighter conducts him or herself reflects on the entire department. Firefighters work together as a part of a team and live together during their shifts. The ability to live and work with other firefighters is critically important. FireTEAM is a video-based test of human relations skills designed specifically for firefighters. You will see video scenarios depicting situations followed by questions. Your answers will be based on your own common sense and opinions. These are not procedural questions. The questions are about public relations and relations with co-workers. FireTEAM, animated mechanical reasoning test Being able to quickly grasp cause-and-effect and relationships of objects to each other can mean the difference between life and death for firefighters. FireTEAM Mechanical Reasoning Test is an animated test of your understanding of how the world around you works. The questions are set within the systems of an animated plant. You will employ mechanical reasoning to answer the questions. FireTEAM, math test This math test is designed specifically for firefighters. The questions are presented on video. You must complete the calculations in your head. No written calculation is permitted. Questions are based on the type of math that firefighters must use on a regular basis as part of the job. (Please note that at this time, there are no sample questions demonstrating the FireTEAM Math Test on the practice test.) FireTEAM, reading test Firefighters need to be able to study technical topics and keep up on changes in many fields that affect their work. The FireTEAM Reading Test is specifically designed to match the style and reading level of typical firefighter reading requirements. Participants will receive pass/fail information. Physical Ability A mandatory Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Orientation and walk through is scheduled on April 7, 2012. Orientation will be done for those that do not sign the waiver form. Successful candidates will be notified by mail of test times and location. Additional agency specific fitness evaluations may be required by each participating agency. Participating Agency InformationBellingham Fire Department, FIREFIGHTER/FF/PARAMEDICMust be a U.S. citizen or registered to work in the U.S. Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old at the time of certification of the register. Must be a high school graduate or have received a GED. Must pass a police criminal convictions records check with no felony records within the last seven years. Misdemeanor convictions will also be reviewed for the last seven years. A conviction will not necessarily disqualify an applicant, but offenses by their nature and recentness may reveal a lack of specific qualifications for the position. Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and no record of driver’s license suspension or revocation in any state within the last three years. Must possess EMT certification or acquire within 90 days of employment and maintain for the duration of employment. Must possess or obtain a Washington Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention (EVAP) certification within 90 days of initial hire. Must meet minimum medical requirements. Excellent physical condition, including ability to swim at distance, tread water and retrieve a submerged weight. Must have ability to work at considerable heights (up to 100 feet) on a ladder. Must not have smoked or used tobacco products for minimum of 24 months prior to application. Recruitment Process: The top 30 scoring candidates will be referred to the Bellingham Fire Department for an Oral Board Interview. The minimum score to pass the Oral Board Interview is 60%. The Oral Board Interview will be weighted at 60% of a candidate’s total score. The register of candidates will be forwarded to the Civil Service Commission for certification. When entry vacancies occur, the greater of either the top 15 candidates or top 25% of the register will be referred to the Department for a Chief’s interview. The register will remain active for a period of one year and will be used to fill vacancies when they occur. For additional information, go to www.cob.org. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the last seven years. Must hold a valid Washington state or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification upon offer of employment. Oral board, psychological, background and medical exam with drug screen required. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue reserves the right to select from any of the three Bates eligibility lists: FF General Knowledge List, FF/EMT List or FFI List. Those wishing to become eligible for hiring as a paramedic will have to take the FF General Knowledge Test to be placed on a paramedic eligibility list. Paramedic candidates must have current Washington state or National Registry Paramedic certification at the time of the exam to be eligible for placement on this list.

Olympia Fire Department, FIREFIGHTERApplicants must be at least 18 years of age by the closing date of the application period. Requires graduation from high school or GED. State of Washington EMT Certification is preferred but not required for testing. Must be able to attain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within one year of hire date. Additional Civil Service tests, including an oral board interview, will be conducted. Prior to hire, a candidate must pass a background check, driving record review, medical examination with drug screening, and a psychological examination. Must possess a valid Washington state driver’s license by date of hire, and must have maintained a good driving record.

SeaTac Fire Department, FIREFIGHTER Requirements: Age 18, U.S. Citizen, high school diploma or GED, valid Washington state driver’s license. Additional Civil Service tests, including an oral board interview, will be conducted. Prior to hire, a candidate must pass a background check, driving record review, medical examination with drug screening and a psychological examination. South King Fire and Rescue, FIREFIGHTERSouth King Fire reserves the right to select from any of the three Bates eligibility lists: General Knowledge, FF/EMT or FF1 list. Requirements: US Citizen with the ability to read, write and speak English fluently. Must be 21 years or older at time of hire. High School graduate or GED equivalent is compulsory. Associate degree desired. Must possess and maintain a valid Washington state driver’s license in good standing according to insurance guidelines, and successful completion employer’s defensive driving program within one year of employment is required. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history in the last seven years. EMT and Fire Fighter 1 certifications must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Pre-employment testing will include passing SKF qualifying tests and oral interviews. Offers of employment will be made upon successful completion of background checks, driving record, medical exam and psychological examinations.
