3 Yardbird Southern Table & Bar

The table has long been the center of Southern life – where we share everything from laughter, to tears over some of the most common glue to bring people together: food.

Yardbird is a tribute to the importance of sharing a meal, a celebration of the ingredients and craft that go into its preparation, and a humble “thanks” for everything the Southern table has to offer.

The historic building that is Yardbird once housed the neighborhood grocery, and we’re proud to have transformed it into a space that neighbors continue to frequent. Yardbird showcases touches of a bygone era, while remaining comfortable, casual and current – a balance that reflects the restaurant’s progressive take on traditional Southern fare.

True to its character, the Yardbird bones are old. Rustic reclaimed wood and whitewashed vintage bricks lead to a high, barn-like, wood-beamed ceiling over an open floor plan.

It’s in the smaller touches that the restaurant celebrates its heritage with innovation. Antique tractor seats function as bar stools; Mason jars and Edison bulbs become pendant lights; farm and kitchen implements such as whisks, rolling pins and bushel baskets are now beer taps, door handles and custom-made “chandeliers.”

It is our belief that the best tastes in life come from the process – from steps and components like hand-rolled dough, daylong brines, and house pickling spices. Yardbird takes pride in a scratch kitchen. We’re honored to start with local ingredients, quality meats and premium produce from specialty farms in their simplest forms. Local berries macerate for eight hours to become the tiny jar of strawberry goodness that’s making a freshly baked biscuit that much sweeter.

The menu is comprised of traditional Southern cooking made current by contemporary twists and more complex dishes. The result is an offering that is classic, yet elegant, simple while still incorporating forward thinking, and altogether satisfying.

The cocktail program highlights fresh fruit juices, herbs, spices and of course, bourbon, bringing the bar program to the forefront of mixology and underscoring the appeal of brown spirits.

Fresh blackberries and lemon juice come together in our Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade; jalapeno, mango, pepper and Tabasco are paired with Old Grand-Dad 114 proof for a Kick in the Pants. The program is fresh, fun and a little bit familiar – so much so that it now allows us to move more bourbon than anywhere else in the state.

“Homey touches are all over the menu. Biscuits are baked fresh every half-hour or more; bacon is house-cured — an eight-day

process repeated several times a week. Blueberry lemon pie arrives in the cast-iron skillet in which it was baked.”

“Within a rehabbed vintage grocery store (original Florida pine ceiling, old-timey chalkboard art), Yardbird feels timeless

and hand-done, all without looking hokey.”

“Classics also charm at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar… including ridiculously

delicious fried chicken.”

(Restaurants with Staying Power)

“The cool farmhouse décor is a refreshing change of pace from designs that too often strain to be SoBe hip. The menu - brims with big homestyle flavors - dishes such as Brunswick stew with alligator sausage and smoked rabbit, shrimp 'n' grits, and Llewellyn's Fine

Fried Chicken with waffles and watermelon. Craft bourbons, beers, and wines are distinctly all-American, as is the overall dining

experience.”

"American blues music and friendly service synchronize with the hospitable Southern fare."

(Best Restaurant, South Beach 2012)

“If we told you that one of the hottest restaurants in South Beach uses Bourbon as a backbone to its menu

would you believe us? Any doubters can head over to the Bourbon oasis known as Yardbird to enjoy one of their

Bourbon flights, or cool down with their signature drink, Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade.”

Hand-drawn art appears throughout the restaurant boasting lines such as "God gave the angels wings; he gave us bacon" and "There are two kinds of people in the world: those who love fried chicken, and communists.”

It gives the brand a voice – one with enough wit that patrons are willing to wear it. Hats and shirts clothe both staff and regulars, and have caught on so much that we now ship internationally. There are even a few lucky babies out there sporting onesies that read “RIFF-RAFF.”
