• Times shown are starting and finishing times for each exam and include reading time – generally 5minutesunlessotherwiseindicated.YouMUSTbeatthevenue15minutespriortothecommencementoftheexam.Ifyouarrive lateforanexamyoucanstillentertheexamroomafterspeakingwithasupervisor,however,noadditionaltimewillbegiventocompensateforyourlateness.

• YouMUSThaveyourStudentIDcardwithyou,tobeplacedonthedeskduringtheexam.• YouMUSTbringyourbarcodelabelstoeveryexaminationtoattachtoanswerbooklets• Uponentrytotheexamvenue,silenceistobemaintained.• Wristwatchesmustbetakenoffandplacedonthedesk• AswithALLExams,MobilePhonesandotherelectronicdevicesincludingsmartwatchesarenotpermittedin

theexamroomsunderanycircumstances.Ifastudentisfoundtohaveaphoneorelectronicdevicetherewillbe an immediate notification toNESA regardingMalpractice and a zero recorded for the task regardless ofwhetherthephoneordeviceisbeingused.

• StudentswhoengageinanyformofMalpracticecanexpecttohavezeroawardedfortheexaminationandthemalpractice registered with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) – this has very seriousconsequences in relation the Preliminary internal assessment Grades lodged with NESA at the end of thePreliminaryCourse.

• Pens,pencils,erasersandanyotherrequiredequipmentcanonlybetakenintotheexamroominaclearplasticcontainer,andmustbefreeofaddednotationsanddrawings.

• StudentsareaskedtouseblackpenonlyasperNESArequirements• NOTE – if you use ‘white out’ in an examination you are automatically ineligible to appeal yourmarks post

REMINDER - Illness / Misadventure Appeals

Illness/MisadventureAppealsonlyapplywhenastudenthascompletedatask,butbelievesthatcircumstancesthatoccurredimmediatelybeforeorduringaformalassessment(thatwerebeyondtheircontrol)impactednegativelyonordiminishedtheirassessmentperformance.Therefore,theIllness/MisadventureAppealprocessisdesignedforcaseswhere,becauseofillnessormisadventure,astudent’sperformance,inanexaminationtypetaskisnotatruemeasureofastudent’sachievement.Illness/Misadventuredoesnotapplytotasksthataretakehometasksasthestudentwillhavehadsufficientnoticetocompletethetask.TheIllness/MisadventureappealprovisionsareopenonlytothosePreliminaryCertificatestudentswhohaveorwillcompletea‘like’taskwith‘like’outcomes,thereforestudents’needtoseriouslyconsidertheimpactofIllness/Misadventureappeals.Forexample,ifastudentisrequiredtopresentaspeechandthereisonlyonespeechintheAssessmentscheduletheycannotbegivenIllness/Misadventure–thestudentwouldneedtocompletethespeechatafuturetimeasarrangedbytherelevantStudiesCoordinator.InthecaseofPreliminaryCertificatetaskIllness/Misadventureappeals,iftheappealisupheld,thestudentwillbeawardedeitheranestimateorthemarkreceivedinthetask,whicheveristhehighermark.Note,thatinthecaseofextendedtasks,Illness/Misadventurewillnotusuallyapplyasthestudentwouldhavehadsufficientopportunitytocompletethetaskinatimelymanner.TherighttosubmitanIllness/Misadventureappealandtheresponsibilityfordoingsorestswiththestudent,exceptwhereitisimpossibleforthestudenttodoso,suchasincasesofsevereillness.Illness/MisadventureAppealformsareavailablefromtheAssistantPrincipal–DeanofStudies,andStudiesCoordinatorsaswellStudentServicesduringExaminationBlocks.AstudentmustsubmittheIllness/MisadventureAppealtotheDeanofStudiedwithin2schooldays(48hours)ofsittingforthetaskotherwisetheAppealwillnotbeconsideredorprocessed.

IfapplyingforIllness/MisadventurethestudentMUST–

- notifythesupervisingteacheroftheassessmenteventpriortocommencingthetask–thesupervisingteacherwillthenrecordtheinformationintheIllness/MisadventureAnomoliesBook(inthecaseofmajorexams/assessments)andwriteobservationalnotesaboutthestudenttopassontotherelevantStudiesCoordinator.

- acceptthatanIllness/MisadventureCardwillbeplacedonthestudent’sdeskforthedurationofthetasksothatallsupervisorscanobservethestudent

- completeandreturnanIllness/MisadventureAppealFormwithattachedevidence/documentationtotheAssistantPrincipal-DeanofStudieswithin2schooldays–(48hours)ofsittingforthedesignatedtask.

Note-astudentcannotsubmitanappealonthebasisof:

•difficultiesinpreparationorlossofpreparationtime;forexample,asaresultofanearlierillness•allegeddeficienciesinteaching•lossofstudytimeoraccesstofacilities•long-termillnessessuchasglandularfever,unlessthestudentsuffersaflare-upoftheconditionduringtheexamination(aDoctor’sCertificateisrequiredtoconfirmthis)•thesamegroundsforwhichyoureceiveddisabilityprovisions,unlessyouexperienceadditionalunrelateddifficultiesduringanexamination–forexampleadiabeticexperiencesahypo•misreadingtheexaminationtimetable.•misreadingexaminationinstructions•othercommitments,suchasparticipationinentertainment,workorsportingevents,orattendanceatexaminationsconductedbyothereducationorganisations.

TheAssistantPrincipal-DeanofStudieswillpresenttheIllness/MisadventureAppealapplicationstotheStudiesTeamwhowillactasthepaneltodeterminewhethertheIllness/MisadventureAppealshouldbeupheldandnotethisontheIllness/MisadventureAppealForm.ThestudentwillbeinformedofthefinaldecisionbytherelevantStudiesCoordinatororDeanofStudiesonceallmarkshavebeenfinalisedfortherelevanttask.IftheAppealisdeclinedthestudentisabletoappealtothePrincipalprovidedtheyhavefurthersupportingevidencetosupporttheappeal.ThisappealmustbesubmittedinwritingtothePrincipalwithinfiveschooldaysofthedeclinednotification.TheNSWEducationalStandardsAuthority(NESA)andtheCollegerequirethatwherepossiblestudentsattendallassessmentevents.Itshouldbenotedhowever,thatneitherNESA,northeCollegeexpectstudentstoattendanassessmenteventagainstspecificdocumentedmedicaladvice.WherestudentsareindoubttheyareadvisedtocontacttheDeanofStudiesorDeanofStudents.SPECIALNOTE–astudentmayonlyreceiveoneestimatepercourseinthePreliminaryYeartherefore,studentsshouldconsidercarefullywhetherhe/shehasbeensufficientlyimpactedbyillness/misadventuretolodgeanappeal.

REMINDER – Malpractice In the case of examinations / timed assessments, students should note that taking any of the following into the examination room or classroom will be treated as Malpractice

1. amobilephone.Mobilephonesarenotpermittedinanexaminationroomunderanycircumstances2. anyelectronicdevice(exceptacalculatorwherepermitted).Thisincludescommunicationdevices,

organisers,tablets(egiPads,etc),smartwatches,musicplayersorelectronicdictionaries3. paperoranyprintedorwrittenmaterial(includingyourexaminationtimetableunlessspecifiedinthe

assessmentnotification)4. dictionaries,exceptwherepermittedinLanguagesexaminations

Studentswhocommunicatewithanotherstudentintheexaminationroom,orborrowequipmentduringataskwillalsobetreatedasengaginginMalpractice. IfastudentengagesinMalpracticeduringanexamination,whetherintentionalornotthestudentcanexpectthatzerowillberecordedforthetask.Inthecaseofprepared,handintaskstheAssistantPrincipal-DeanofStudiesandrelevantStudiesCoordinatorwilldetermineifthemalpracticeissubstantialandasaresulthasadvantagedthestudent–ifthisisthecasethezeroresultwillstand,however,ifforexampleasectionofthetaskistheonlypartdemonstratingmalpracticethestudentmayonlybepenalisedforthissection.

REMINDER-Non-SeriousAttempts

TheNSWEducationalStandardsAuthorityhasdeterminedthatNon-seriousattemptsincludefrivolousorobjectionablematerial.Non-seriousattemptsalsoincludethosewhereonlymultiple-choicequestionsareattempted.NESAalsonotesthatstudentswhoprovideanswerstoexaminationquestionsinalanguageotherthanEnglish(unlessspecificallyinstructedtodoso)willhavezeromarksawarded.(AssessmentCertificationExaminationManual9025)Inadditiontothisstandard,ifaStudiesCoordinatorbelievesastudenthasnotattemptedthemajorityofquestionssetinthetask,aNon-seriousattemptmaybeidentified.

Ifitisdeterminedthatastudenthasnotmadeaseriousattempt,theStudiesCoordinatorwillcompleteaNESANonCompletion(N)Warningletterfora‘non-seriousattempt’tonotifythestudentandparents.Theremaybearequestforaninterviewtodiscussthestudent’sprogressinthecourse.NotethattwoNWarningletterscanmeanastudentwillnotbeeligibletoreceivetheirPreliminaryCertificateandthereforewouldnotbeabletoprogresstoYear12.

Rememberthatastudentmayberequiredtore-submitataskorsitanalternativetasksothatfeedbackonknowledgeandunderstandingcanbeprovidedandtoensurethatcourseoutcomesaremet.
