Torquay International School has been providing outstandingEnglish tuition to students from all over the world for 45 years.The Young Learners Academy draws on this wealth of knowledgeand experience to offer a range of programmes, combiningEnglish language tuition with a variety of activities andexcursions, all designed to expand and enhance the learningexperience. This all takes place in and around the beautifulseaside resort of Torquay at the heart of ‘The English Riviera’.

Top quality tuitionWeekday mornings are spent in lessons with an hour and a halfof grammar-based English classes before morning break,followed by more relaxed communication-based classes untillunch. This approach is designed help students quickly progressno matter what their level of English.

It’s not all work!Weekday afternoons are filled with 3 hours of workshops,activities and excursions, allowing the students to have fun aswell as using their newly learnt language skills. Each week thereare two afternoon workshops, such as Arts & Crafts, Film Club,Music & Song, English Literature, Drama and Conversation Club;two activities, such as football, volleyball, pitch & putt, rounders,kayaking, tennis or swimming; and one afternoon excursion,such as a visit to a water park, Paignton Zoo, the Living CoastsZoo and Aquarium, or a Boat Trip.

Evenings are mainly spent with the host family, except for twoactivity evenings, which may include ten-pin bowling, atraditional meal of fish & chips, a disco, a folk night or a BBQ. On Saturday there is a full-day excursion further afield, toExeter, Bristol, Plymouth Aquarium or the Eden Project.

English Academy (Ages 11-15)

Our exciting full-day English Academy programme isdesigned to fully immerse young learners in the Englishlanguage. It combines serious academic study with funlearning methods and a huge variety of extra-curricularactivities and excursions. Our organised programme ofafternoon, evening and weekend events will enablestudents to learn about British culture, practice the social English that they have developed in the classroom,and make friends with fellow students from all over theworld.

Course Dates: 3 July - 26 August 2017

Tuition per Week: 15 hours

Maximum Class Size: 15 students

English Level: Elementary - Advanced

Course Duration: 1 - 8 weeks

Arrivals/Departures: Any Sunday

An extension of our English Academy programmeopposite, with afternoon activities following a specialtheme. These specialised courses include 2 afternoonsand one full day per week focussed on the chosen PLUStopic. The course duration is 1 week and can be combinedwith extra weeks of the English Academy Programme.

TorquayTorquay is the largest town in the English Riviera and has been welcominginternational visitors for over a century. The town offers excellent educational andleisure opportunities for young people, and has an attractive harbour and fantasticgolden sandy beaches. Torquay is also the perfect base from which to explore thishistoric and beautiful region.

Our SchoolLocated within walking distance of the town centre, our school is a safe andwelcoming place for young students. Our experienced staff offer support andadvice to all students and our classrooms are well–equipped, light and airy. Thereare dedicated areas for our Young Learners to relax and socialise during their timeoutside of lessons.

AccommodationHomestay is our most popular accommodation option and is especiallyrecommended for younger students. Our hosts are carefully selected for theirfriendly and caring nature, and we try our best to match each student with theperfect family for them. All our homestays aspire to be excellent hosts and are inregular contact with our Accommodation Manager. This is the “full immersion”option, allowing students to practise their English at home with their local familyand also to learn about the British culture and way of life.

WelfareThe welfare of our students is a top priority for us. Our dedicated and experiencedWelfare Manager will meet all students on their first day and will be available toall under-18 students throughout their stay. We have an excellent staff-to-studentratio to make sure that we give our students the best care and attention possible.We also provide a 24-hour emergency number for all students and parents in caseof any problems at any time.
