AUSTRALIAN RADIOCOMMERCIAL RADIOThe licence fees paid by each commercial radio station are distributed directly to the works played on that station.

COMMUNITY RADIOEach station provides us with details of the music they play on a small sample basis (reflecting the relatively low licence fees involved). The number of logs actually used from each station for distribution analysis (which ranges from 1 week to 4 weeks a year) depends on the size of each station’s APRA licence fee.

Royalties are split into four genre streams:• Fine Music / General / Alternative / University & Independent• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander• Christian (Main)• Christian (RHEMA)

MUSIC IN RADIO ADVERTISEMENTSWe monitor airplay of advertisements broadcast on metropolitan stations, and use Music Recognition Technology (MRT) to identify the music, for APRA's distribution payments. This provides the same level of accuracy as for all other music broadcast on radio and television.

Note: Jingles played in non-metropolitan areas are still submitted by our self-reporting system.
