Welcome

We know that more and more people will need to change their position in the job market and develop skills and qualifications to do that. We are particularly keen to get people to think about English and maths qualifications because we know that getting one has the potential to change your life. 1000 people are doing this every year with Adult Education, and you could be one of them. It works well to do this alongside an ICT qualification - see page 9/10. Did you know that people who have a Level 2 maths qualification are far more likely to earn a higher salary than those who don’t? To get an introductory ‘Step-in’ please see page 11.

If you think you can’t go to university, think again with our Access to Higher Education programme - see page 14/15. You could study Health and Social Care, more relevant now than ever, or go into our exciting new option of Music Technology.

The pandemic has also shown us the importance of health and well-being, dealing with loneliness and looking after our mental health. We can offer you courses in arts, craft and media, languages, and a wide range of interest, health and fitness options.

We hope to see you shortly and give you the learning you need.

As I write we are hopeful that Adult Education will be offering close to our normal face-to-face programme as the world emerges from the pandemic. We will also be looking to hang onto some of the moves forward we have made since the lockdowns, so you will also see opportunities for online learning.

Fee informationThe fees shown in this brochure apply to UK nationals who have lived in the UK for at least 3 years. Nationals of other countries and those who haven’t lived in the UK for the last 3 years, may also be eligible for these fees. Please contact us for further information.

Standard FeeThis is the standard fee for those aged 19 and over.

ConcessionaryQualification courses – fees shown in this brochure are the full fee for the course. Fee remission, where no fees need to be paid, is available for most courses up to Level 3 depending on circumstances.

Help with fees


Paying by instalments If you would prefer to spread the cost of your course you may wish to take the opportunity to pay by instalments. This option is available if your course fee is £60 or over.

Your costs will be divided equally into monthly instalments (the final instalment must be paid before the end of your course). The first instalment is due at the point of enrolment which can be paid by cash, cheque, debit or credit card. You will be required to pay the remaining instalments by setting up a standing order when you enrol.

Course materialsFor courses requiring essential books and materials, the fee you pay will include this, but you may need to provide your own supplementary books, stationery and additional materials. Details about any additional materials that may be required will be provided by your tutor.

RefundsIf a class does not start, or closes due to insufficient enrolments, a full refund of course fees will be made.

If a learner cancels their place on a course more than 5 working days prior to the course start, they will be given a refund less £20 administration fee. If a learner cancels their place on a course within 5 working days of the course start, there will be no refund. Refunds for other reasons are not generally given, other than in exceptional circumstances such as bereavement or illness supported by a doctor’s certificate. If a course has already started the refund will be calculated on a pro rata basis and will be subject to an administration fee of £20.

Course changes and cancellationsCourses may be cancelled, or changed, if enrolments are too low or for other reasons. Course details and venues may be changed if necessary.

At first Tom was nervous and very scared of the impact from Covid 19. He had been in lockdown with his family for 12 months. This had made him feel socially isolated and affected his mental health. While on the AMLAG project Tom gained confidence via Zoom sessions. When he was comfortable he came out and met up for a social coffee. He applied with Work Skills South West to do his CSCS training to enable him to progress into the industrial cleaning vocation. We then updated his CV and supported him in looking for work. I am delighted that Tom successfully completed his interview and is now working full time doing industrial cleaning for a local supermarket chain. He still keeps in touch and he is really enjoying his new career.

Claire was referred to the AMLAG through adult social services. She has a learning difficulty and autism that prevents her from retaining too much information. She has problems with debt and has social anxiety. Claire has attended sessions where we have covered improving her mental health and wellbeing, healthy eating and budgeting. We are building on these skills by using her love of music. She is doing a project on how music impacts on her life. The project has provided a guitar for her and she is learning to play. She has a step-in to go on to Adult Education Level 2 in Music Technology. The AMLAG project has given Claire the support and confidence she needs to get engaged in learning once more. The project has supported Claire to budget her money and prepare healthy meals that will last longer.

Microsoft Office Specialist Put Microsoft on your CV with Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)An internationally recognised qualification designed for anyone who wants to show they have the skills required to get the most out of a specific Office software package.

In one year you could be well on your way to a new career or progression onto a degree in your chosen specialism.

If you are aged 19-23 on the first day of learning without a full level 3 qualification you may be eligible for fee remission. You will need to sign a self-declaration.

If you are aged 19 years or over, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your tuition costs. You won’t have to repay the loan until you are earning over £26,575 a year or it will be written off if you go on to complete a university degree or eligible HE course.

We have a wealth of Creative Arts courses on offer to inspire and engage learners from beginners to the more experienced.

These vary from one-day workshops to full year courses. The focus in this exciting and extensive range is on developing knowledge of skills, techniques and processes, specific to the medium being used. Within all our Arts courses we focus on colour, mark making and composition.

Sessions include tutor demonstrations in a friendly and supportive atmosphere and working with learners who have shared interests.

Art



Drawing and painting from still life to creating engaging children’s characters, we focus on the benefits and versatility of the medium to build imagery. With printmaking you have the opportunity to translate ideas using colour, line, layers and texture to great effect in your final prints.

Our Level 2 Counselling Skills course provides both a grounding in listening skills and an opportunity to experience how these skills may be used in a helping/support role as well as everyday life.
