PATHWAY TO PVAMU | 3

In-State Transfer Student

Students transferring from any Texas public institution must provide transcripts showing their current TSI status. Please note that developmental courses do not transfer to PVAMU. Transfer students who have not met all of the TSI testing requirements will be placed in the PVAMU developmental sequence based upon THEA scores. Transfer students who have satisfied TSI requirements must have this status documented on the official transcript. Transferring grades in certain classses does not signify that the student has met the TSI requirements.

Out-Of-State Transfer Students

Studens transferring from out-of-state are still responsible for meeting the TSI testing requirements before enrollment can occur. Out-of-state transfer students can meet the TSI requirements by transferring in a grade of “C” or better for the following courses:

Transient Admissions

A transient student is a visting student who is currently enrolled in another college or university, is in good academic standing, and desires admission to PVAMU for a limited period, usually one semester or summer term. Admission as a transient student is determined after the completed application has been reviewed and approved and the application fee has been paid. An official transcript will be required for THEA exemption.

MY TRANSFER STORY Fanisia, Communications

16 | TRANSFER STUDENT GUIDE

I have a unique transfer story. You see, I started at PVAMU, transferred to another university for one year, and transferred back to PVAMU. What can I say? I missed my family. I missed my friends and I truly missed the entire PVAMU experience. I found that the smaller class sizes here at Prairie View really helped me concentrate on my major. I was not intimidated and I felt like I was treated like an individual – not a number.

Plus, although I did join a few organizations at the other institution I attended, I felt that the organizations I was a part of at PVAMU really strengthened my abilities and reinforced my leadership skills. Simply put, PVAMU turned out to be the best choice for me – I was able to be myself. I was inspired to be the best that I could be, and I achieved a lot during my time here that I know I would not have achieved at any other university.

PVAMU has a lot of opportunities for people who are willing to step out of their comfort zones and connect to other students who have similar interests. From meeting with on-campus mentors to joining some of the organizations and clubs that are offered, you are able to create your own campus experience. I’m originally from California and I initially went to a junior college. I came to PVAMU to play football and to prepare myself to become a fireman. I’m proud to share that I am interning with the Prairie View Fire Department over the summer and I’m so excited to be on the first team to play at the new Panther Stadium.
