Important Safety Instructions

Before beginning any fitness program, you shouldobtain a complete physical examination from yourphysician.

When using exercise equipment, basic precautionsshould always be taken, including the following:

• Read all instructions before using the Leg PressOption. These instructions are written to ensure yoursafety and to protect the unit.

• Do not allow children on or near the equipment.

• Use the equipment only for its intended purpose asdescribed in this guide. Do not use accessoryattachments that are not recommended by themanufacturer: such attachments might causeinjuries.

• Wear proper exercise clothing and shoes for yourworkout—no loose clothing.

• Use care when getting on or off the unit.

• Do not overexert yourself or work toexhaustion.

• If you feel any pain or abnormal symptoms, stopyour workout immediately and consult yourphysician.

• Never operate the unit after it has been dropped ordamaged. Return the equipment to a service centerfor examination and repair.

• Never drop or insert objects into any opening in theequipment. Keep hands away from moving parts.

• Always check the unit and its cables before using it.Make sure that all fasteners and cables are secureand in good working condition.

• Do not use the equipment outdoors.

Personal Safety During Assembly

• It is strongly recommended that a qualified dealerassemble the equipment. Assistance is required.

• Read each step in the assembly instructions andfollow the steps in sequence. Do not skip ahead. Ifyou skip ahead, you may learn later that you haveto disassemble components and that you may havedamaged the equipment.

• Assemble and operate the Leg Press Option on asolid, level surface. Locate the unit a few feet fromwalls or furniture to provide easy access.

The Leg Press Option is designed for your enjoyment. Byfollowing these precautions and using common sense,you will have many safe and pleasurable hours of healthfulexercise with your Precor Strength-Training equipment.

Before You Begin

Thank you for purchasing the Leg Press Option for theZuma. This option will add a new dimension to yourstrength-training regimen. For proper installation, pleaseread this guide thoroughly and follow the assemblyinstructions.

Unpacking the Equipment

The Leg Press Option is carefully tested and inspectedbefore shipment. The unit is shipped in one box and hasseveral pieces that require assembly. Two people arerequired to assemble this equipment. Ask for assistanceduring the assembly process.

• Review the Installation Requirements on the nextpage.

• Carefully unpack the pieces and lay them on thefloor near the place where you plan to use theequipment.

If any items are missing, contact the dealer from whomyou purchased the unit.

To determine thelength of a bolt,measure its shank.

CAUTION: To set up this equipment, you will needassistance. Do not attempt assembly by yourself.

You must review and follow the instructions in thisguide. If you do not assemble and use the Leg PressOption according to the following guidelines, you couldvoid the Pacific Fitness limited warranty.

Required Tools

You need to obtain these tools before assembling theunit:

❑ 3/4-inch socket wrench

❑ 3/4-inch box-end wrench

❑ 9/16-inch socket wrench

❑ 9/16-inch box-end wrench

❑ Two adjustable pliers or crescent wrenches

❑ Standard set of metric Allen wrenches

❑ Utility knife or scissors

❑ Measuring tape

Installation Requirements

Follow these installation requirements whenassembling the unit:

• Fill out and mail the limited warranty card. Thewarranty card is found on the back cover of thisguide.

• Set up the Leg Press Option on a solid, flatsurface. A smooth, flat surface under the unit helpskeep it level. A level unit has fewer malfunctions.

• Provide ample space around the machine. Openspace around the machine allows for easieraccess.

• Insert all bolts in the same direction. Foraesthetic purposes, insert all the bolts in the samedirection unless specified (in text or illustrations) todo otherwise.

• Leave room for adjustments. Tightenfasteners (such as bolts, nuts, and screws)so that the unit is stable, but leave room foradjustments. Do not fully tighten fastenersuntil instructed in the assembly steps to do so.

Assembly Tips

• A black, 6-inch scale with white numbers is providedat the bottom of every assembly instruction page.Use this scale to identify the correct size for boltsand spacers. The head of a bolt is not used tomeasure the length of a bolt.

To find the length of a particular bolt, measure itsshank (the long, narrow part beneath the head). Referto the following diagram.

• Read all caution notes on each page beforecompleting that step.

• Some pieces have extra holes that you will not use.Use only those holes indicated in the instructionsand illustrations.

• While you may be able to assemble the Leg PressOption by using the illustrations only, refer to thetext for important safety cautions and notes.

Assembly Instructions

Assembly of the Leg Press Option takes professionalinstallers about 1 hour to complete. If this is the first timeyou have assembled this type of equipment, plan onsignificantly more time.

Professional installers are highly recommended!

CAUTION: Obtain assistance! Do not attempt toassemble the Leg Press Option by yourself.Because of the weight and size of the equipment,you could be injured or damage the equipment.

Important: For ease of assembly, the fasteners andhardware for each step are labeled and packaged inseparate bags. Be careful to assemble thecomponents in the sequence presented in thisguide.

Step 1. Attach the Leg Press to the Zuma

1. Attach the Leg Press to theZumaImportant: Raise the Press Arm to get it out of the waybefore you assemble the Leg Press Option. If theoptional Shroud is attached, remove it.

2. Attach the Seat Frame to theLeg PressA. Attach the Seat Frame to the Leg Press Base using

two 3¾-inch boltsfour washerstwo locknutsWrench tighten.

B. Remove the Seat Bracket Support from the SeatFrame. The holes in the Seat Bracket Supportshould face up.

C. Lift the Pop Pin and slide the Seat Bracket Supportback through the Seat Frame. Lower the Pop Pinand make sure that it engages into one of the holesin the bracket.

D. Attach the Handle to the Seat Frame usingtwo 3-inch boltsfour washerstwo locknutsWrench tighten.

E. Attach the Footrest to the Support Arm. Have anassistant stabilize the Support Arm while youattach the Footrest usingone ½-inch by 3½-inch large diameter bolttwo large ½-inch washersone large ½-inch self-locking nutWrench tighten.

3. Assemble the Seat PadsNote: Make sure that the seams on the Seat Pads facetoward the frame.

A. Determine which Seat Pad you want to use as theBackpad. Attach it to the Seat Bracket Supportusingtwo 1¾-inch boltstwo washersWrench tighten.

B. Lift the Pop Pin and slide the Backpad out of theway to mount the other Seat Pad.

C. Attach the Seat Pad to the Seat Frame usingtwo 2¾-inch boltstwo washersWrench tighten.

D. In preparation for assembling the pulleys, lower theSupport Arm so that it rests on the floor.

4. Assemble the PulleysImportant: If the Multi-Hip Option is attached to theZuma, remove the bolt that secures the top of the CrossBrace to the Main Upright prior to mounting the PulleyPlate. Replace the bolt with a 3¼-inch bolt instead of the3-inch bolt used in step A.

A. Attach the top portion of the Pulley Plate to theMain Upright usingone 3-inch bolttwo washersone locknutWrench tighten.

Note: You may need to push in on the PaddedHandle to align the Pulley Plate mounting holes.

B. Attach the bottom edge of the Pulley Plate to theMain Upright usingone 3-inch bolttwo washersone locknutWrench tighten.

C. Mount one 3½-inch pulley to the top hole on thePulley Plate usingone 2½-inch boltone 3/8-inch barrel spacerone 3½-inch cable retainerone washerone locknutFinger tighten.

D. Mount one 4½-inch pulley to the bottom hole on thePulley Plate usingone 2½-inch boltone 3/8-inch barrel spacerone 4½-inch cable retainerone washerone locknutFinger tighten. The illustration shows the properorientation and fastener alignment.

Step 5. Route the Cable

5. Route the CableA. Have an assistant hold the Support Arm in a

vertical position next to the Pulley Plate.

B. Mount a 4½-inch pulley to the upper hole on theSupport Arm usingone 5½-inch boltsix washersone black cam stopone cable retainerone ½" barrel spacerone locknutFinger tighten.

C. Rest the Support Arm against the Main Upright.

D. Locate the Floating Pulley Plate on the Zuma.Loosen and remove the bolt and fasteners thatsecure the lower 3½-inch pulley to the FloatingPulley plate. Relocate the pulley and fasteners ontothe lowest hole on the Pulley Plate.

E. Make sure that the cable moves freely and thenwrench tighten the bolt.

Step 5. Route the Cable, Continued

F. Route the cable through the pulleys on the PulleyPlate. Have your assistant lift the Top Cap Weight torelease tension on the cable while you pull the cablearound the Support Arm pulley. Adjust the cableretainers and make sure that the cable moves freelybefore tightening any bolts.

Note: The pulleys should be positioned with theedges in-line so that the cable moves freely. If apulley is not aligned properly, you can adjust itsposition by using washers as spacers. Be sure thatyou always maintain a minimum 1/8-inch clearancebetween the bolt head and nearby structures.

G. Wrench tighten all pulley fasteners. (Steps 4Cthrough 5D.)

ERoute the cable as shownaround the pulleys and insidethe cable retainers beforetightening the fasteners.

4 Cable Adjustments

Cable Adjustments

Once the Leg Press option is assembled, you mustcheck the Cables for proper tension. For example, makesure that:

✔ Excess slack exists in the cable.

✔ The Top Cap Weight does not rest squarely on theWeight Stack.

✔ The Cable does not rub the inside edges of thepulleys.

CAUTION: Take the time to perform these steps. Ifthe cables do not have the proper tension, youcould damage the machine and void the PrecorLimited Warranty.

Adjustments to the cable can be made in two places.

❑ the Press Arm Bumper Pad.

❑ the Black Cam Stop on the Support Arm.

the Top Cap Weight to ensure the least cableresistance.

B. To adjust the tension of the Main Cable, rotate theBumper Pad against the Press Arm.

C. After properly adjusting the cable tension, tightenthe locknut against the Bumper Pad.

D. Check the weights. Move the Weight Pin to eachWeight and Selector Stem location.

E. Replace the Weight Pin into the Top Cap Weight.Refer to the illustration in view A.

Cam Stop on the Support Arm so that it pressesagainst the Main Upright.

B. Check the weights. Move the Weight Pin to eachWeight and Selector Stem location.

C. Replace the Weight Pin into the weight stack.

Residential Equipment Limited WarrantyPrecor Incorporated warrants that all new Precor products are free of manufacturing defects inworkmanship and materials. Parts repaired or replaced under the terms of this warranty will bewarranted for the remainder of the original warranty period only. This warranty becomes effectiveat the invoice date of the original purchase.

Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainers and Motorized Treadmills (excluding EFX5.17 andTreadmills: 9.2 and 9.4 series) — Labor is covered for one year, parts are covered for five yearsplus a lifetime frame weld warranty covering parts-only repair or replacement parts. (Labor is notcovered on frame replacement after one year.)

Products (StretchTrainer, Strength Equipment — formerly Pacific Fitness) other thanElliptical Fitness Crosstrainer and Motorized Treadmills (except options)StretchTrainer — Labor is covered for a period of 90 days, parts are covered for a period of one yearplus a lifetime frame weld warranty covering parts-only repair or replacement parts. (Labor is not covered onframe replacement after one year.)Pacific Fitness Branded Strength Products and Precor Strength Products S3.xxThis is a parts only warranty. Labor costs are not covered.1. Return Policy: Proof of purchase is required to determine whether service on a Precor Strength Product/Pacific Fitness Product during its warranty period will commence. Claims should be made to the dealerfrom whom you purchased the product. The purchaser is responsible for all transportation and insurancecosts on returned or replaced equipment or parts. The purchaser also assumes any costs associated withthe disassembling or reassembling of the replacement parts. WARRANTY BECOMES VOID IF PRECORFINDS THE DEFECT A RESULT OF INCORRECT INSTALLATION, MISUSE, LACK OF PROPER MAINTE-NANCE OR ANY MODIFICATION NOT APPROVED BY PRECOR.

Options / Accessories / Battery-powered or Self-Operated DevicesMany options or accessories have components that are connected internally or mounted insidethe electronic console. The following guidelines determine the warranty for these components. Ifthe internal components are installed by the factory or by an authorized dealer as part of theoriginal sale and delivery, they have a warranty that is identical to the warranty of the equipmentin which they are connected or mounted. If the internal components are not installed by thefactory or by an authorized dealer as part of the original sale and delivery, they have a 90 daysparts and labor limited warranty. All components that are not internally connected have a 90 daysparts only limited warranty. Satisfactory proof of purchase is required in all cases.PRECOR'S SOLE LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF PARTS ACCORDING TOTHE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THESE LIMITED WARRANTIES, AND ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIESOF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE ARE LIMITEDTO THE DURATION OF THE ABOVE WRITTEN WARRANTIES. ConditionsThis warranty is valid only in accordance with theconditions set forth below.1. Warranty applies to the Precor product only while A)

it remains in the possession of the original purchaserand proof of purchase is demonstrated, B) it has notbeen subjected to accident, misuse, abuse, improperservice, or non-Precor modification and C) claims aremade within the warranty period.

2. Warranty of all Precor products applies to residential useonly (unless specifically stated by the factory, in writing, tobe warranted for commercial use) and is void when productsare used in a non-residential environment or installed in acountry other than where sold.

3. This warranty does not cover damage or equipmentfailure caused by residential wiring not in compliance withelectrical codes or Precor owner’s manual specifications,or failure to provide reasonable and necessarymaintenance as outlined in the owner’s manual.

4. During the labor period Precor compensates Servicers forwarranty trips within their normal service area to repairmotorized treadmills and elliptical fitness crosstrainersat the customer’s location. You may be charged a tripcharge outside the service area, or for on-site warrantyrepairs, or for on-site warranty repairs of strengthproducts, within the service area.

5. Precor Limited Warranty service may be obtained bycontacting the authorized dealer from where youpurchased the equipment or by contacting a Precor FactoryAuthorized Service Center, or by calling1-800-4-PRECOR (1-800-477-3267).

grips, seats, labels, or wheels.3. Repairs performed on Precor equipment missing a serial

number or with a serial tag that has been altered ordefaced.
