Getting Prepared

• Supplies:– textbook

– notebook

– pencils, erasers, calculator

– place to work

• Attitude– I can do this

– Math is important to me

– I will do everything I can to succeed

Use your textbook

• READ, yes, read the textbook– slowly– actively– out loud

• Make notes

• Learn the “specifics”

• Be gentle with yourself

Ask questions fearlessly

• Ask whatever will aid your understanding

• Do not worry about anyone else’s reaction

• Remember your reasons for going to school

• Sometimes we have to admit we do not know something before we can begin to learn

Do your homework

• Practice,Practice, Practice

• Learn to recognize “types” of problems

• Know the terms

• Understand the formulas

• Learn to pace yourself

• Take frequent, short breaks

• Think about math outside the classroom

Get help

• Have a study partner

• Start a study group

• Get a tutor
