+RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM

7-Guiding Principles

The social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum

How children learn is as important as what they learn

The greatest cognitive growth occurs through social interaction

Knowing the children we teach-individually, culturally, and developmentally is as important as knowing the content we teach.

SCHOOL CLIMATE

+RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM

7-Guiding Principles

Knowing the families of the children we teach is as important as knowing the children we teach

To be successful academically and socially, children need to learn and practice specific social skills. Five very important skills are: Cooperation, Assertion, Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-control

How we, the adults at school work together is as important as our individual competence: Lasting change begins with the adult community.

If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, the excitement, and the mystery of the world we live in." --Rachel Carlson
