Recap The California Global Warming Solutions Act of

2006 (AB 32) requires the California Air Resources Board to report and verify the statewide greenhouse gas emissions inventory.

As an initial response, we installed CO2 analyzers at our Roseville, Fresno, and Bakersfield air monitoring stations.

Intended as a pilot study to get a CO2 baseline.

Ended the pilot study in February 2011.

THERMO 410i CO2 Analyzer Uses infrared spectroscopy as principle of

operation.

PROS: easy to use/read interface, easily integrated into existing monitoring stations, stable

CONS: nitrogen purge cylinder, need CO2 free zero air for calibrations

Data Mean CO2 concentrations:

Roseville 424 PPM

Fresno 428 PPM

Bakersfield 441 PPM

Mauna Loa Observatory 390 PPM

Where do we go from here?

Finalizing data. Writing final report intended for journal publication

looking at seasonal and diurnal patterns. Draft of report for peer review this summer. Evaluate a rural network away from localized

sources using new technology (cavity ring-down spectroscopy) with the Picarro G1301. The Picarro analyzers measure CH4 and CO2.
