Summer Class OfferingsCome dance with Just For Kix this summer! Open to both new and expe-rienced dancers. Classes will focus on technique, flexibility and strength, and learning a fun dance routine! Older classes focus on kick and jazz technique, and may be split based on experience level.

Enrichment

Driver’s Ed Training (Ages 14-18)Classroom training can be taken by students who are 14-1/2 years or older and consists of 10 three-hour lessons. Each lesson is independent and can be taken in any order. If a lesson is missed, the student can make it up when and where it is convenient at either another Fridley Community Education class or at a Safeway classroom. Lesson calendars are available on Safeway’s web site.

Behind-the-wheel training consists of 3 two-hour private lessons which can be scheduled online or by calling Safeway’s office (651-351-9150). Pick-up and drop-off is at home, school or work. Training is done in a white late-model car with Safe-way’s “Student Driver” graphics.

Classroom training and Behind-the-wheel training are included in the cost.

Safeway Driving School was selected by Fridley Community Education to provide teen driver’s education. Safeway is the largest driving school in Minnesota. It has an A+ rating with BBB and is a BBB Accredited Business. Safeway has 70 expe-rienced instructors backgrounded and licensed by the MN Dept. of Public Safety.

Summer Chess Camp (Grades K-8) Challenge yourself! Play Chess! Exercise your brain! This is an excellent opportu-nity to develop better Chess Skills in the summer! “Hey Girl” A program of Growth, Independence, Responsibility and Leadership (Ages 13-16) As a Certified Life Coach Practitioner and Youth Mentor Instructor, Mrs. Sims’ goal is to establish ongoing relationships aimed to achieving personal growth and self-development for adolescences in areas of self-esteem, confidence, and communication skills. Mrs.Sims has been a supporter for youth for over 6 years through mentoring programs and teen groups. She continues to grow programs that strive to give hope to our youth who are in need of advocates that believe in them. This camp will provide a safe and fun space where girls can have freedom of expression and embrace their true selves. The girls will be building long-lasting friendships with other girls that share similar experiences through daily fun activities. Child and Babysitting Safety (Grades 4-8) Learn the responsibilities of being a prepared, responsible, safe babysitter. Topics included are feeding and diaper-ing techniques, safety, child development, first aid, and fire safety. Participants will receive a Child and Babysitting Safety book and will work towards receiving an ASHI approved safety certification. The class will include baby dolls, bottles, and diaper supplies.

Home Alone Camp (Grades 3rd - 6th)

Just mention the words “Home Alone” and children think of the excitement depicted in the movies of the same name. The reality of being home alone can evoke fear and anxiety in many chil-dren. Whether left alone for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, children should feel comfort-able being alone. This workshop for chil-dren will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone” including personal safety tips, tricky people, basic first aid, fire safety, handling the unexpected, internet safety, dealing with boredome, storm safety, and trust and honesty.

My Little Horse Camp (Ages 2-5)

Pokemon Movie Making (Grades 1-5)New Class! Work on a stop-motion animated POKEMON movie. Pick your favorite characters to star in your mini-movie; the possibilities are endless. Action figures, props, and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Handle all the technical details including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, doing stop-motion animation, digital editing, and adding finishing touches, special effects, and transitions to the movie. Students’ groups’ final projects will be emailed to parents, or students may bring a USB jump drive the last day.

Extreme Robotics: Battlebots (Grades 3-8)Super-charged NXT Lego Robotics proj-ects. Get ready to take ultimate control. Using the NXT Intelligent brick from Lego servo motors, advanced ultrasonic, touch and light sensors, and specialized Lego Technic engineering components, students will build extreme robots and overcome challenges. Students work-ing in small teams will control the robot with NXT programs, then experiment and modify the programs. Students will then be challenged to morph their proj-ects into better, stronger, or faster robots. Possible competitive robots are Tug-O-War bots, a Hammer-bot, a Claw-striker, and a Sumo-bot. Java Minecraft Modding-Infinity Gauntlet (Grades 3-8)New Class! Learn and use the elements of JAVA coding to create Minecraft mods. Alter the world around you with the real stone, defeat the ender dragon with the power stone, and halve the universe using all six infinity stones. Shape the world to your will and make the universe “perfectly balances”. Use the Java programming language to create Thanos armor and a working infinity gauntlet. Students should feel comfortable with keyboard-ing and, of course, playing Minecraft. at the end of class, take home your mods to share with family and friends. 2019 Fridley Spring Basketball Camp (Grades 2-8)

Come join the High School Varsity Coaches Bryce Richter and Eric Wright and varsity basketball players for this free spring basketball camp. This camp will allow students to work on basket-ball skills such as dribbling, shooting, and other challenges and applying them to actual games.

Future Tiger Boys & Girls Basketball (Grades 1-4)

This is a great introduction to begin and continue learning the game of basket-ball. Each student will learn the basic fundamentals of the game: Running, pivoting, passing, ball handling, catch-ing, jumping, and shooting. There will be a lot of shooting and dribbling games along with games of 1 on 1 up to 4 on 4. The High School Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Coaches, Jim MacDonald, Erik Redepen-ning along with assistant coaches will run camp along with current varsity players. Each student will receive a camp shirt and basketball prizes. Participants will receive a Fridley (5) game punch pass to get into any high school game free!

Tiger Boys & Girls Basketball (Grades 5-8)

This 10 day camp is for Tiger Basketball players, or interested players, entering grades 5, 6, 7, and 8. The camp will stress fundamentals, individual basketball skills, shooting form, passing, screen-ing, cutting, and ball handling. Team play will consist of 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, and 5 on 5 transition games. We can work out schedule conflicts with the Summer Strength Training Program.

Diving Camp (Grades 5-12)

If you have ever been involved or inter-ested in diving, this is the right fit for you! These sessions will include: dryland workouts, ab exercises, board work, and in-water diving practice. You will learn new skills and have a fun time doing so. Get a friend and come play! Anyone interested must be able to swim across the deep end of the pool without assis-tance to join.

Come join Fridley Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis Coach, Anthony Branitski, for this established, challenging and fun camp! Compared to club prices, this program is a bargain. Anthony Branitski is also a club professional instructor who will instruct students in all aspects of tennis from stroke improvement, agility and fitness to tennis match strategy. This camp will benefit both the beginner and accom-plished tennis player. Bring a racket if you have one, if not we can supply one for use. Each camp participant will also receive a punch pass good for (5) FREE Fridley Tiger sporting events. Rainouts will not be rescheduled. Fridley Soccer is pleased to offer an outdoor training program for 5th - 12th grade players this summer! The program features skills training and small sided games.

Vertical Endeavors Base Camp (Ages 6-9) & Peak Experience (Ages 10-13)Vertical Endeavors Minneapolis ½ Day Rock Climbing Camps offer chil-dren ages 6 to 13 the opportunity to explore the sport of rock climbing in a controlled setting that is fun and excit-ing for kids of all skill levels. No expe-rience is necessary. In addition to our focus on fun, all of our camps place a strong emphasis on risk management in the sport of rock climbing. Activities include cooperative games, top rope climbing, and climbing activities. Your child will leave camp with a deeper understanding of rock climbing.

Base Camp (ages 6-9) will introduce kids to the sport of climbing by teach-ing climbing basics. We will cover risk management, knot tying, and an intro-duction to roped climbing. The camp-ers will improve their climbing skill and confidence through a variety of activities and games.

Peak Experience (ages 10-13) will explore more climbing techniques, including knot tying, belaying, ascending, and rappelling. The campers will learn to belay one another on the first day, which will allow them to more independently pursue individual climbing projects. Class RegistrationPolicies

FeesFees must accompany your registration. You may pay with cash, check (Please make all checks out to ISD #14), or Visa/MasterCard/Discover credit cards.

CancellationsFridley Community Education reserves the right to cancel classes due to lack of enrollment or emergencies.

RefundsRefunds minus a $5 processing fee will only be issued if requested one (1) busi-ness day prior to the start of the first day of class. No refunds will be given after a class has started.For classes and tours that have a published cancellation deadline, no refunds or cred-its will be issued after the specified dates.Full refunds or credits are issued if Community Education cancels a class or tour, or the class or tour is already filled.

Satisfaction GuaranteedCall us if you are not satisfied with any Community Education class.

Closings Due to WeatherIn case of bad weather, tune in to local media – broadcast, print and online for information on school closures or check the district’s website at https://www.fridley.k12.mn.us/ for the most current updates. Classes are not held when schools are closed due to the weather.

Fridley Public Schools (ISD#14) assumes no responsibility for injuries received during activities. ConfirmationIf you have an email address on file with us you will receive confirmation. You may also call to confirm your registration. You will be called if class is canceled or filled.

Photo AgreementFridley Public Schools Community Education has my permission to use photographs of the person/s enrolled in the course in public releases and or infor-mation publications about the program. If you do not want pictures in public releases, you need to contact the Commu-nity Education office in writing at [email protected].

Fee AssistanceResidents of the Fridley School District who are unable to pay the full registration fee for classes may request fee assistance by calling 763-502-5100 or [email protected]. by email. Some classes may not qualify for fee assistance or it may be limited. Students within the district on free or reduced lunch are eligible for reduced prices on most classes with proof of participation in the free or reduced lunch program.

UCare DiscountUCare members may take up to a $15 discount on most classes listed in our catalog. If a class is less than $15, the member may take the class free of charge. Members must be on UCare at the time of registration and through the duration of the class(es). Members will need to include to include their ID number when registering. Classes that are not eligible for the discount include homeopathy, high risk activities (rock climbing, etc.), hypnosis, and personal trainers. UCare for seniors allows one discount per year.

Senior Citizen DiscountCommunity members 62 years and older may attend classes at 10% off of the regular fee unless otherwise noted. This discount does NOT apply to classes offered outside of Fridley or Fridley Senior Program Classes.
