ASCAP Membership Meeting, Game Developers Conference, Latino Independent Producers & HBO, SXSW, iHollywood Digital Media Summit, Delray Beach Film Festival, Tin Pan South Songwriters Music Festival Highlight March Media and Showbiz Industry Career Networking Events The Miami International Film Festival, running through March 11, uses the geographical and cultural position of Miami to be a special platform for the exhibition of international and US films, with a special focus on Ibero-American cinema. Festival panel, roundtable discussions, and seminars explore the craft and creative process of cinema, as well as the business of making, financing, and distributing a film. Screenwriter Rock Shaink of TV series "The Dreamer", and Chris Klug also of "The Dreamer" series, and Creative Director for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, will speak at the monthly Alameda Writers Group (AWG) meeting happening March 3 in Glendale. At a March 3 workshop titled "The Rights of an Independent Contractor in Film" attorneys Patrick Reddy and Timothy Emery explain the rights of an independent contractor, what the clauses in the contracts youre signing actually mean, what production companies can and can not put in their contracts, among other topics taking place in Seattle. ASCAP hosts a general annual membership meeting explaining ASCAP operations and membership on March 5 in addition to a pre-meeting seminar titled "We Create Music," conducted with a panel of songwriters and composers, in New York City. A meeting of the Game Developers Conference explores next-gen, handheld, current game development, and collaborations with the film industry, when it assembles March 5 to 9 in San Francisco. The monthly ASCAP Song Source Music Feedback Session in Nashville is an opportunity for ASCAP members to receive feedback on one of their songs from ASCAP staff and music industry professionals. Participants may bring one song on a CD with lyrics to the March 7 session. The 25th Annual Canadian Music Week mixes informative, intensive conferences, cutting edge trade exposition, award shows, Canada's biggest New Music Festival and nightly performances, with over 600 showcasing bands at over 44 live music venues in downtown Toronto. National Association of Latino Independent Producers in alliance with HBO invites you to explore the Mobile Media revolution at its conference taking place March 8 to 11 in Newport Beach, where there will be an exclusive screening of "Illegal Tender," from producer John Singleton and writer-director Franc Reyes, with cast and crew Q and A following. At the International Festival of Films on Art in Montreal, March 8 to 18, all artistic disciplines, including dance, music, painting, architecture, literature and film, will be represented by FIFA whose primary mission is to increase public awareness, knowledge and appreciation of the arts by promoting works by artists and professionals from the fields of film, television and video. On March 9 the Seventh Annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards will pay tribute to the Honorable Ann Richards, former governor of Texas, who acted as the ceremony's emcee for four years. Columnist Liz Smith, who Richards inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2001, will serve as emcee at the awards show, in Austin. The well regarded SXSW or South by Southwest Conferences and Festivals in Austin, from March 9 to 19, puts on the third edition of its mobile media festival, SXSWclick in addition to regular festival offerings. ShoWest Global Motion Picture Industry Conference, where motion picture professionals and theatre owners from around the globe assemble for four days of educational seminars, screenings, and unique sponsored events including the 22nd Annual Al Lapidus Golf and Tennis Charity Tournaments, opens March 12 in Las Vegas. This year's focus at the two-day iHollywood Forum Digital Media Summit opening March 13 in Hollywood will be on how social networking and user-generated content will revolutionize Hollywood's definitions of content and who creates it, and a "pitch for funds" session at the Digital Media Venture Forum. Film Festival will screen multi-award winner "My Brother, The Movie" www.myspace.com/mybrotherthemovie - starring Vanessa Williams and Tatum O'Neal, three days ahead of its March 16 national release at AMC Theaters, and the festival will present some screenings on the beach. Asia Film Financing Forum at The 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival is a film project market, from March 20 to 22, that aims to bring Asian filmmakers with upcoming film projects to Hong Kong for international co-production ventures. Winter Music Conference 2007 offers opportunities for DJs and artists to network and have their music heard through Demo Listening Workshops, CD compilation, DJ and performance stages, DJ Spin Off and other performance events, showcases and release parties (some poolside) throughout the week of March 20 at Miami Beach. At the Nashville based Tin Pan South Songwriters Music Festival and Songwriters Symposium, from March 26 to 31, special guest performances, professional instruction from songwriting veterans, and intimate group breakout sessions, form a fund raising backbone for the NSAI's legislative efforts in Congress. Over 40 producers, theater companies, writers and directors will be sitting in on two days of auditions for actors with and without musical talent, starting March 31, hosted by Theater Resources Unlimited, a not-for-profit organization in New York City.
