A Message from your Chamber PresidentWhen I started in the Chamber business 14 years ago, someone told me that a Chamber membership is like a gym membership. When I remember who that person is, I'm going to call and respectfully disagree. As we know, when you stop going to the gym, you obviously stop getting results. However, with a Chamber membership, if you stop participating - or participate less - you will still continue to get results when it comes to the business

community. Because no matter where you are located, how busy you are, or how many events you attend, your Chamber is working behind the scenes on a continual basis to provide your business with the best opportunity to succeed. Key factors that create and sustain a strong business environment, such as economic development, educational opportunities, and maintaining a pro-business environment and political climate are priorities for the Chamber. Fortunately, we live in an area that continually works to maximize each of these factors. Promoting economic development is crucial to building a sustainable community. The Chamber has a seat at the table whenever discussions are held that affect business at all levels of government and by numerous decision-making entities. We develop pro-business goals and initiatives through our partnerships with organizations, such as the county's Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Workforce Alliance, and Business Development Board. Boca is home to large employers and community partners, such as nCCI Holdings, Inc., Office Depot, Tyco, and the brand new Garda World Security Corp., that contribute to a strong tax base and an excellent quality of life for our residents. Our work with County and City Government helps ensure we continue to enhance the economic development of Boca Raton and position ourselves to attract and retain new business, whether it is a small start-up or a Fortune 500 company. Boca Raton’s school system, throughout the K-12 and college and university-level, shows why companies continue to relocate to our area. For the past 20 years, the Chamber’s Golden Bell education Foundation has provided supplemental funding for unique programs that elevate the curriculum at Boca’s A-rated public schools. We are proud to announce that Golden Bell has officially donated more than $1 million to local public schools. The

programs that are funded through Golden Bell help mold future employees, entrepreneurs and even employers. In addition to a strong business climate, robust local educational opportunities attract employers to open a new business in or relocate an existing business to Boca Raton. A new venture that we will be undertaking during our 60th year of operations is the Young entrepreneurs Academy (YeA!). YeA! is a groundbreaking educational program that takes students age 11 to 18 through the process of starting and running a real business or social movement over the course of a full academic year. Through YeA!, students work in close cooperation with local leaders of industry, community members, educators and entrepreneurs, who use their personal experiences to walk students through the steps of creating their own business or social movement from the ground up. The Boca Chamber is the first Chamber in the state to implement this innovative program and we look forward to years of success with it. For the past 59 years, the Boca Chamber has operated independently of the City government - but with a common goal - namely, to create an unmatched quality of life in Boca Raton.

And, as you read this, we are in process of producing our Annual Sourcebook and Relocation Guide, the pre-eminent Chamber publication in the country, which will be available in print and in a digital format, offering our members national exposure and serving as the official sourcebook for those looking to live, work, learn and play in Boca Raton. This year, the publication will be sent to Fortune 100 CeOs across the country, in specific industry clusters, providing our Members with an incredible opportunity for national recognition. The Chamber serves as the front lines for business. Typically, we are the first call people make when they are looking to do business in Boca. We provide needed information so that visitors and residents alike may utilize the best that Boca Raton has to offer … our Membership. From the incredible cutting-edge production capabilities of Green Advertising, one of our newest Trustee Members, to the increasing buzz about Skin Apeel Day Spa’s luxurious and calming atmosphere, the Chamber is proud to be the best business resource for small and large business.

In addition to our many events and programmatic opportunities, rest assured that your Chamber represents the best interests of the business community and will continue to do so for at least the next 60 years. As always, we thank you for your support!

Boca Festival Days 2011 It's a great time to be involved in Boca Raton

Co-Chair Jon Sahn and Chair Debbi Lawlor

Boca Festival Days is a true example of community partnership!

non-Profit Boca Chamber Members get together with For-Profit Chamber Members to hold a fun-filled event during the month of August!

The Goal? To raise awareness and funds for the non-Profit Member’s philanthropic efforts. All month long, residents of Boca Raton will travel from event to event, participating in everything that is great about this City - from the smaller events to the grand!

This series of fun-filled events are held at different locations in the greater Boca Raton area during the month of August. The Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce helps to facilitate these events that are created and run by a pairing of non-profit members with for-profit members to raise funds and awareness for the non-profit organizations during their specific Boca Festival Days event.

no matter if you want to help welcome the inaugural Medical School class at Florida Atlantic University, raise a toast at the Dubliner to help animals at the Tri-County Humane Society, peruse beautiful pieces

of art from the Boca Museum of Art Artist's Guild, watching local celebrities dance the night away to benefit the George Snow Scholarship Fund, you can find fantastic entertainment all month long at various events during Boca Festival Days.

Please visit www.bocaratonchamber.com/Festivalevents for a full list of the fun and exciting partnerships that are providing you with a packed social calendar this August!

• What inspired you to become a Boca Chamber Ambassador? When I joined the chamber I committed to be active. That includes attending fuctions when in town or not with a client, joining Leads #4, joining the legislative committee and becoming an ambassador. I saw being an ambassador as a chance to give and get value.

• How long have you been in business? 16 years • What is the main goal of your business?Consulting in Human Resources, Labor Relations & employee Communication - Helping employers Prevent, Identifty and Resolve Workforce Issues. • Who inspired you to go into business? My wife, Susan, told me I should consult based on my senior corporate experience

• What are the two greatest advantages of doing business in Boca Raton / being a member of the Boca Chamber? In the little over one year that I have been a member, I have met with more people that could have mutual referral value than ever would have been possible on my own or from other resources. even though SuMa Partners has been in business for over 16 years, until a couple of years ago we did not have to do business development. That was not one of my skills. Classes at the chamber and the advice of members has greatly improved my business development skills. • Where should I go to find out more? Please visit www.sumapartners.com or call 800-759-7057

At the north end of the Florida Atlantic University campus in Boca Raton is a group of technology and R&D companies quietly generating billions of dollars of revenue and creating high wage jobs to Florida’s brightest stars.

Created 26 years ago, the recently renamed Research Park at Florida Atlantic University is home to 26 successful technology and support companies with an additional 22 startups hosted in its Technology Business Incubator. Governed by the Florida Atlantic Research and Development Authority and operated by HDG Mansur, the Park’s main campus is at FAU with an additional location on I-95 in Deerfield Beach.

The Research Park and the University have a long-term partnership that has positioned the Park to be one of South Florida’s most dynamic economic catalysts. The University provides high-growth companies in the Park with easy access to interns, academic research staff, facilities, equipment and applications for joint grants. In turn, employers in the Park act as attractors for new students and provide jobs to graduates. Home-grown talent from Boca Raton can look forward to high-wage and sustainable, post-graduation technology jobs, as well as fertile entrepreneurial ground to build their own companies.

FAU is home to the sixth largest business school in the United States and is classified as a “High Research Activity”

university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, making it a valuable research and technology resource.

Boca Raton provides a high concentration of investment capital and business infrastructure to emerging companies. New World Angels, Enterprise Development Corp. of South Florida and Florida Institute for the Commercialization of Public Research are all located within the Park. Within just a short walk, a tenant can gain access to some of the best business and financial minds in the country.

Recently, three new technology companies opened in the Park’s Technology Business Incubator, a testimonial to the advantages of synergistic businesses forming a technology cluster, the competitive leasing rates being offered, and the significant benefits that come with being a tenant of the Park.

The Research Park at Florida Atlantic University, a Boca Raton asset, is quickly becoming a highly-desired and renowned center for some of the most successful technology companies in the world.

those to make sure you have understood them, have a discussion upfront about the investment it might take to solve the issues they have and if you can present a viable solution, what would happen at that point. Here is where you can present but only present the solutions to the issues they have, not everything that you do. People are “selfish”. I don’t mean that negatively, but they just look inwardly first at how they will be affected with this solution. If there is some wonderful feature that isn’t necessarily wonderful to them, don’t present it. The more you present, the more they have to go back and think about how they might use it. There will begin your long selling cycle scenario. So spend more time in preparing for each call and do the real work at the beginning. Don’t depend on some great “dog and pony show” presentation to do the work for you. Most people know who they will choose before they even see the presentations. Make your best impression from the great questions you ask, not your company boasting.

Here are some very important things to do when selling. First, stop selling! What? Yes that’s right. What I mean by that is the old adage I talked about earlier is typically what we see. Stop that now.

Begin with prospecting through referrals. Cold calling is typically not your best source for good prospects. Networking and referrals are the #1 way to get to the right person and get there quicker.

When you do get someone on the phone begin with the end in mind. Let them know what you do and why you are calling them. Do some research ahead of time so you will be able to develop good questions. Let them know if at the end of your conversation it makes sense to get together then you can set that up, but if it doesn’t that’s okay too and you can end the call there. If you get an appointment, go into the appointment armed with your research on the organization and some thought provoking big-picture questions that you have prepared. A pen and pad is all you will need here. After asking those questions and really learning about their issues, summarize

The Boca Chamber is helping to cultivate the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders by being the first Chamber in the state to welcome the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!).

This innovative program helps young adults between the ages of 11 and 18 learn how to start a business and to be able to provide funding for the business. YEA!’s mission is to develop and deliver exciting, experience-based entrepreneurship programs to young people to enable them to transform their ideas into real enterprises that create economic and social value for a better world, develop the character or tomorrow’s leaders, and enable educational institutions to provide successful entrepreneurship and social innovation training programs.

Boca Chamber members will also have the opportunity to get involved as mentors, instructors, or sponsors. Over 100 businesses and social movements have been launched by YEA! students since 2004. More than 50% of the businesses started by YEA! students have continued after graduation. Thirteen percent of students have started a second business or social movement.

Meet Randy Eubanks

Suncoast Marketing Inc

1. How long have you been in business? I started right out of college in 1979 (man that sounds old doesn’t it?) with Moore Business Forms. I came to Florida with Better Business Forms in 1982 and worked up to VP of Sales there. I left in 1994 when I became a minority partner at Suncoast Marketing Inc. My partner and I bought out the senior partner in 2001

2. What is the main goal of your business? We have always been, and continue to be a “Customer Service Focused Business” - we dedicate specific customer service reps to specific clients based on needs and skills sets. There are always knowledgeable back ups if one CSR is out, so a client will never be improperly serviced. We strive to exceed our Clients expectations, not just meet them. This philosophy has fueled our growth to be the largest of our business model in the state and in the top 45 in the US.

3. Who inspired you to go into business? There were many influences from my “Uncle Jerry” who ran a family pharmacy that I worked in, as well as my parents who always supported my small business enterprises that I established growing up. My work ethic has always pushed me and inspired those that work with me, creating the “can do” attitude that is prevalent at Suncoast. I have always been in sales of some kind since childhood. The basics came naturally with my personality and my positive attitude and that was the catalyst to drive me to business and marketing in college and career.

4. What are the two greatest advantages of doing business in Boca Raton / being a member of the Boca Chamber? The Boca Chamber is the most active and supportive Chamber that I have ever been involved with in Florida or any other state for that matter. The level of support is remarkable and the activity level of the members has been quite impressive. I have had more interaction with Boca Chamber members in three months than I have had in other chambers over years.
