A SAFARI ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME IN KALAHARI AND OKAVANGO!

We fly with a small plane from Maun towards Deception Valley in the heart of the Kalahari Desert. On its eternal sandy savannah we search for the endemic Kalahari lion with its characteristic black mane. We also hope to meet exciting animals such as cheetahs, oryxes, jackals and perhaps wild dogs or a leopard... The adventure continues in the wild and untouched Okavango Delta. This time of the year the delta is lush and green and teems with

wildlife. We will explore this wild and untouched oasis in traditional mokoro canoes and enjoy the charming hippos and amazing bird life. During game drives in Okvango we also have a great chance of spotting several of Africa’s most famous characters – leopards, lions, giraffes, elephants or maybe buffalos and hyenas? The final destination is the breathtakingly beautiful Victoria Falls, whose local name translates to “the smoke that thunders”.

Throughout the trip we will stay in small and exclusive lodges and camps. While in Kalahari we stay in walk-in dome tents with proper beds,

Experience a hard to beat safari in a country oozing with magic – Botswana! The wildlife here is exquisite, with elephants, lions, giraffes, leopards and cheetahs in the Kalahari Desert and the Okavango Delta. The adventure culminates with a little bit of Zambia, a sunset cruise among crocodiles and hippos on the mighty Zambezi River. The trip’s grand finale is the Victoria Falls, one of nature’s greatest wonders.

an experience taking us back to the long gone days of Livingstone’s Africa! Joining you on this trip is a PolarQuest guide and local guides with in-depth knowledge of the area.Day 1: London - JohannesburgWe fly over night and arrive in Johannesburg the next morning. Day 2: Maun and Kalahari, BotswanaOur trip continues towards Maun in Botswana, where we change over to a smaller plane. A short trip takes us to the still untamed Kalahari! At our comfortable lodge we relax and get to know Africa’s scents, sounds and atmosphere. We enjoy a nice dinner and toast for our adventure to come. Here we also get acquainted with the KhoiSan (Bushmen), the first people of the mighty Kalahari. Day 3 - 4: Deception Valley, KalahariWe travel overland in jeeps, into the wild and the heart of the Kalahari Desert – Deception Valley. This is a part of Botswana that is virtually untouched by man. At our campsite our comfortable walk-in dome tents are already set up and in the evening we gather around the crackling camp fire. You will notice that the food

and the service here are exquisite, which results in a very pleasant way of camping. We explore the wondrous Kalahari in Jeeps. This is the brief rainy season in the desert and the ground is covered with nutritious grass that attract wild animals with young from all over the enormous reserve. Following them are predators like cheetahs and the endemic Kalahari lions. We might hear them through the canvas at night or at breakfast see tracks from curious nightly visitors around the campfire. Day 5 - 8: From desert to deltaWe drive back to Maun and continue by plane to the Okavango Delta, an oasis in this dry country and world-renowned for its huge concentrations of wildlife. We will experience a stark contrast as we move from desert to delta, from dry sand to a wonderful water world. For two nights we will stay at Xigera Camp, a charming and comfortable lodge in the middle of the delta. We enjoy mokoro canoe trips along quiet waterways, flanked by elegant reeds with an abundance of birds such as kingfishers and African jacana, while crocodiles rest on the shore. The magnificent African fish eagle

is also a common sight. As we go to bed at night we may hear hippos snort, the owl calling, or the clucking sound of the frogs. The following two nights we will stay at Tubu Tree Camp, on a small island in the delta. This traditional style camp is built on raised wooden platforms with beautiful views over the floodplains and surrounding landscape. We rise early to explore parts of the 60 000 hectare Jao Reserve in our jeeps. Here we have a good chance of seeing elephant, lion, zebra, giraffe, tsessebe and wildebeest as well as kudu, impala and bushbuck. This is also one of the best places in southern Africa to see the elusive leopard and we are constantly on the lookout.Day 9 - 10: Victoria Falls, ZambiaWe leave the Okavango behind and head northeast by plane. We clear customs to Zambia and are now on the other side of the mighty Zambezi River, not far from the stylish and luxurious River Club. This is a marvellous lodge, built in colonial style, offering private bungalows overlooking the river. We can almost hear the amazing and roaring Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural

wonders of the world. After waking up to the sound of snorting hippos and breakfast overlooking the river, we pay a visit to one of the world’s most famous falls. Upon seeing these impressive waterfalls with ten million litres of water pouring over the edge every second, we may think of David Livingstone who said: “On sights as beautiful as this, angels in

their flight must have gazed”. In the evening we go for a quiet boat trip on the Zambezi River surrounded by colourful bee-eaters and hippos basking in the African sunset.Day 11: Livingstone - Johannesburg - LondonOur trip ends with a leisurely brunch and final transfer by road to Livingstone Airport, from where we continue towards London.
