SWK 240: Relationships & Sexuality Tuesday & Thursday, 11:00 a.m.Janine Mariscotti, MSW, LCSW
This course explores relationships and sexuality from a biopsychosocial perspective within a developmental framework. Students gain an appreciation for the role o f sexuality and relationships throughout the life cycle with particular attention to the sexual and relational issues of special population groups including ethnic minorities, women, gay and lesbian people, children, older adults, and people with disabilities.
This course is fun and informative; it is an important course for all students and may be of particular interest to psychology, nursing, biology/premed, communication, education, sociology, criminal justice and religion majors who may find the course material useful in their professional development.

SWK 370A: Community Building: Theory & Practice Wednesday, 6:15-8:55 p.m.

This course explores the importance of healthful community life for both individual and social well-being. This course focuses on the evidence and theories of how community life affects individual and social health. Further, the course will offer deliberate, community building activities as practiced by institutions, professionals, volunteers and citizens. Community building strategies that will be studied include elements of empowerment, arts, culture, physical design, symbols of identity, social infrastructure, economic equity, public philosophy, and faith.

Dr. Snyder began his teaching career as an instructor in classics at The Catholic University o f America, and thereafter served for nineteen years as assistant, associate and finally professor o f classics at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.. In 1990 he was named Provost of Saint Joseph College (West Hartford, Connecticut), a position he held until 1996. From 1996 to 1999 he served as President of Molloy College in Rockville Centre, New York. Dr. Snyder joined the staff o f the AAUP in July o f 1999 as Program Director for Academic Freedom and Professional Standards. He moved to his current position at the AAUP in November 2001.

Presents:
US-Saudi Relations:Political, Economic and Cultural Dimensions
Ms. Manal Radwan was born in Turkey and raised in Saudi Arabia. She is a Saudi national. She holds M.A. degrees in Political Science from George Washington University and in International Political Economy and Philosophy from the Catholic University of America. She has delivered papers in national and international conferences organized by the Georgetown University Center for Christian-Muslim Understanding, the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies, and other institutes and universities. Ms. Radwan has authored and edited numerous articles and research papers in her field, including gender studies and development in Saudi Arabia. She is co-author with Dr. David E. Long of a forthcoming book on Saudi Culture. Prior to her appointment at the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Ms. Radwan held positions with the Exxon-Mobil Corporation, The Library of Congress and World Wise Connections. She is currently a Ph.D. student at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University.

H. Anthony Semone, Ph.D.Clinical Psychologist, GKSW/Crystal Group Associates

Dr. Semone earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University in 1968. He is one of 11 psychologists invited by Ralph M. Reitan, Ph.D., to sit for certification by Dr. Reitan in the Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Assessment System, evaluating over 2,000 individuals with the batteries, including numerous persons involved in civil injury cases as well as over 50 criminal defendants in cases involving single homicide, serial murder, racially motivated murder, terrorism, and mass murder. Currently, Dr. Semone practices as a clinical psychologist with GKSW/Crystal Group Associates in Wyndmoor, PA.
The primary goal of this workshop is to address the “nuts and bolts” of being an “ethical expert.” Specific issues that will be discussed include “dual role” relationships; the Dauber/Joiner/Kumbo standards; distinctions between “clinical” and “forensic” examinations; negotiating with attorneys so as to remain independent; what to do with raw data; what to do if you are subpoenaed; and how to respond to requests from attorneys who want you to testify as a “treating” clinician. Additional issues raised by workshop participants are welcome and will be discussed.
*This workshop qualifies fo r 3 contact hours fo r the ethics requirement as mandated by the Pennsylvania State Board o f Psychology.
