This motorcycle is designed to be used only on the road.

Pay special attention to the safety messages that appear throughout the manual. Thesemessages are fully explained in the ‘‘A Few Words About Safety’’ section which appearsbefore the Contents page.

This manual should be considered a permanent part of the motorcycle and should remainwith the motorcycle when resold.

This motorcycle is designed to carry the operator and one passenger. Never exceed themaximum weight capacity.

There is much that you can do to protectyourself when you ride. You’ll find manyhelpful recommendations throughout thismanual. Following are a few that weconsider to be most important.

Your motorcycle can provide many years ofservice and pleasure if you takeresponsibility for your own safety andunderstand the challenges that you canmeet on the road.

Some drivers do not see motorcyclesbecause they are not looking for them. Tomake yourself more visible, wear brightreflective clothing, position yourself soother drivers can see you, signal beforeturning or changing lanes, and use yourhorn when it will help others notice you.

It’s a proven fact: helmets significantlyreduce the number and severity of headinjuries. So always wear an approvedmotorcycle helmet and make sure yourpassenger does the same. We alsorecommend that you wear eye protection,sturdy boots, gloves, and other protectivegear (page ).

Pushing the limits is another major cause ofmotorcycle crashes. Never ride beyondyour personal abilities or faster thanconditions warrant. Remember that alcohol,drugs, f atigue and inattent ion cansignificantly reduce your ability to makegood judgements and ride safely.

For your safety, we strongly recommendthat you always wear an approvedmotorcycle helmet, eye protection, boots,gloves, trousers, and a long-sleeved shirt orjacket whenever you ride. Althoughcomplete protection is not possible, wearingproper gear can reduce the chance of injurywhen you ride.Following are suggestions to help youchoose proper gear.

Alcohol and riding don’t mix. Even onedrink can reduce your ability to respond tochanging conditions, and your reaction timegets worse with every additional drink. Sodon’t drink and ride, and don’t let yourfriends drink and ride either.

For safe riding, it’s important to inspectyour motorcycle before every ride andperform all recommended maintenance.Never exceed load limits, and only useaccessories that have been approved byHonda for this motorcycle. See page formore details.

Be sure you and your passengeralways wear a helmet, eye protectionand other protective apparel when youride.

Your helmet is your most important piece ofriding gear because it offers the bestprotection against head injuries. A helmetshould fit your head comfortably andsecurely. A bright-coloured helmet canmake you more noticeable in traffic, as canreflective strips.

An open-face helmet offers some protection,but a full-face helmet offers more. Alwayswear a face shield or goggles to protectyour eyes and help your vision.

In addition to a helmet and eye protection,we also recommend:

Sturdy boots with non-slip soles to helpprotect your feet and ankles.Leather gloves to keep your hands warmand help prevent blisters, cuts, burns andbruises.A motorcycle riding suit or jacket forcomfort as well as protection. Bright-coloured and reflective clothing can helpmake you more noticeable in traffic. Besure to avoid loose clothes that could getcaught on any part of your motorcycle.

How much weight you put on yourmotorcycle, and how you load it, areimportant to your safety. Anytime you ridewith a passenger or cargo you should beaware of the following information.

However, exceeding the weight limit orcarrying an unbalanced load can seriouslyaffect your motorcycle’s handling, brakingand stability. Non-Honda accessories,improper modif ica t ions, and poormaintenance can also reduce your safetymargin.

The following pages give more specificinformation on loading, accessories andmodifications.

Your motorcycle has been designed to carryyou and one passenger. When you carry apassenger, you may feel some differenceduring acceleration and braking. But so longas you keep your motorcycle well-maintained, with good tyres and brakes, youcan safely carry loads within the given limitsand guidelines.

Your motorcycle is primarily intended fortransporting you and a passenger. You maywish to secure a jacket or other small itemsto the seat when you are not riding with apassenger.

If you wish to carry more cargo, check withyour dealer for advice, and be sure to readthe information regarding accessories onpage .

Following are the load limits for yourmotorcycle:

Improperly loading your motorcycle canaffect its stability and handling. Even if yourmotorcycle is properly loaded, you shouldride at reduced speeds whenever carryingcargo.

Modifying your motorcycle or using non-Honda accessories can make yourmotorcycle unsafe. Before you considermaking any modifications or adding anaccessory, be sure to read the followinginformation.

Follow these guidelines whenever you carrya passenger or cargo:

To prevent loose items from creating ahazard, make sure that all cargo issecurely tied down before you ride away.Place cargo weight as close to the centerof the motorcycle as possible.Balance cargo weight evenly on bothsides.

Accessories and Modifications

Improper accessories or modificationscan cause a crash in which you can beseriously hurt or killed.

Follow all instructions in this owner’smanual regarding accessories andmodifications.

Do not pull a trailer or sidecar with yourmotorcycle. This motorcycle was notdesigned for these attachments, and theiruse can seriously impair your motorcycle’shandling.

We strongly advise you not to remove anyoriginal equipment or modif y yourmotorcycle in any way that would change itsdesign or operation. Such changes couldseriously impair your motorcycle’s handling,stability and braking, making it unsafe toride.

Removing or modifying your lights,mufflers, emission control system or otherequipment can also make your motorcycleillegal.

We strongly recommend that you use onlyHonda Genuine Accessories that have beenspecifically designed and tested for yourmotorcycle. Because Honda cannot test allother accessories, you must be personallyresponsible for proper selection, installationand use of non-Honda accessories. Checkwith your dealer for assistance and alwaysfollow these guidelines:

Make sure the accessory does notobscure any lights, reduce groundclearance and banking angle, limitsuspension travel or steering travel, alteryour riding position or interfere withoperating any controls.

Be sure electrical equipment does notexceed the motorcycle’s electrical systemcapacity (page ). A blown fuse cancause a loss of lights or engine power.

Running the engine beyond recommended maximumengine speed (the beginning of the tachometer redzone) can damage the engine.

Never allow the tachometer needle to enter the redzone, even after the engine has been broken in.

Lights when the transmission is in neutral.

Lights when the headlight is on high beam.

RESET button This button is used to reset the tripmeter (page )or to set the digital clock (page ).

MODE button This button is used to select the odometer andtripmeter (page ) or to set the digital clock (page

).

PGM-FI malfunctionindicator lamp (MIL)(amber)

Lights when there is any abnormality in the PGM-FI(Programmed Fuel Injection) system. Should alsolight for a few seconds and then go off when theignition switch is turned ON.If it comes on at any other time, reduce speed andtake the motorcycle to your dealer as soon aspossible.

Left turn signal indicator(green)

Flashes when the left turn signal operates.

This indicator normally comes on when the ignitionswitch is turned ON, and goes off after you ride themotorcycle at speed above 10 km/h (6 mph). If thereis a problem with the Anti-lock Brake System, thisindicator flashes and remains on (page ).

Digital clock ( ) will reset if the battery isdisconnected.

When the ignition switch is turned ON, themulti-function display ( ) will temporarilyshow all the modes and digital segments.Thereafter, the speedometer ( ) starts acountdown to 0 km/h so that you can makesure the liquid crystal display is functioningproperly.

The coolant temperature gauge ( ) showscoolant temperature.

Overheating Message:

The normal operating temperature range iswithin the section between the segment C( ) and segment H ( ).

When the coolant is over specif iedtemperature, the segment H flashes.If this occurs, stop the engine and check thereserve tank coolant level. Read pages

and do not ride the motorcycle until theproblem has been corrected.

Exceeding maximum running temperaturemay cause serious engine damage.(1)

Turn the ignition switch ON. The time is advanced by one hour,each time the button is pushed.The time advances fast when thebutton is pushed and held.

To set the hour, push the RESET buttonuntil the desired hour and AM/PM aredisplayed.

Shows hour and minute. To set the digitalclock, proceed as follows:

Push and hold both the MODE button( ) and RESET button ( ) for more than2 seconds. The clock will be set in theadjust mode with the hour displayflashing.

Push the MODE button. The minutedisplay will start flashing.

The clock will be reset AM 1:00 if thebattery is disconnected.

The time advances fast when thebutton is pushed and held.

The time advances by one minute, eachtime the button is pushed.

To set the minute, push the RESETbutton until the desired minute. Theminute display will return to ‘‘00’’ when‘‘60’’ is reached without affecting the hourdisplay.

To end the adjustment, push the MODEbutton or turn the ignition switch OFF.T h e d i s p l a y w i l l s t op f l a s h i ngautomatically and the adjustment will becancelled if the button is not pushed forabout 30 seconds.

The shock absorber ( ) has 5 adjustmentpositions for different load or ridingconditions.Use a pin spanner ( ) and extension bar( ) to adjust the rear shocks.Always adjust the shock absorber positionin sequence (1-2-3-4-5 or 5-4-3-2-1).Attempting to adjust directly from 1 to 5 or5 to 1 may damage the shock absorber.Position 1 is for light loads and smooth roadconditions. Positions 3 to 5 increase springpreload for a stiffer rear suspension, andcan be used when the motorcycle is heavilyloaded.Standard position: 2

Front Brake Fluid Level:

The recommended brake fluid is HondaDOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealedcontainer, or an equivalent.

With the motorcycle in an upright position,check the fluid level. It should be above theLOWER level mark ( ). If the level is at orbelow the LOWER level mark, check thebrake pads for wear (page ).

Worn pads should be replaced. If the padsare not worn, have your brake systeminspected for leaks.

Both the front and rear brakes are thehydraulic disc types.As the brake pads wear, the brake fluidlevel drops.There are no adjustments to perform, butfluid level and pad wear must be inspectedperiodically. The system must be inspectedfrequently to ensure there are no fluid leaks.If the brake lever or pedal free travelbecomes excessive and the brake pads arenot worn beyond the recommended limit(page ), there is probably air in thebrake system and it must be bled. See yourdealer for this service.

Rear Brake Fluid Level:

Other Checks:Make sure there are no fluid leaks. Checkfor deterioration or cracks in the hoses andfittings.

The recommended brake fluid is HondaDOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealedcontainer, or an equivalent.

If you decide to use a petrol containingalcohol (gasohol), be sure it’s octane ratingis at least as high as that recommended byHonda. There are two types of ‘‘gasohol’’:one containing ethanol, and the othercontaining methanol. Do not use petrol thatcontains more than 10 % ethanol. Do not usepetrol containing methanol (methyl or woodalcohol) that does not also containcosolvents and corrosion inhibitors formethanol. Never use petrol containing morethan 5 % methanol, even if it has cosolventsand corrosion inhibitors.

The use of petrol containing more than 10 %ethanol (or more than 5 % methanol) may:

Damage the painting of the fuel tank.Damage the rubber tubes of the fuel line.Cause corrosion of the fuel tank.Cause poor drivability.

Before buying fuel from an unfamiliarstation, try to find out if the fuel containsalcohol. If it does, confirm the type andpercentage of alcohol used. If you noticeany undesirable operating symptoms whileusing a petrol that contains alcohol, or onethat you think contains alcohol, switch to apetrol that you know does not containalcohol.

To safely operate your motorcycle, yourtyres must be the proper type and size, ingood condition with adequate tread, andcorrectly inflated for the load you arecarrying. The following pages give moredetailed information on how and when tocheck your air pressure, how to inspectyour tyres for damage, and what to do whenyour tyres need to be repaired or replaced.

Keeping your tyres properly inf latedprovides the best combination of handling,tread life and riding comfort. Generally,underinf lated tyres wear unevenly,adversely affect handling, and are morelikely to fail from being overheated.Overinflated tyres make your motorcycleride harshly, are more prone to damagefrom road hazards, and wear unevenly.

We recommend that you visually checkyour tyres before every ride and use agauge to measure air pressure at least oncea month or any time you think the tyresmight be low.Tubeless tyres have some self-sealingability if they are punctured. However,because leakage is often very slow, youshould look closely for punctures whenevera tyre is not fully inflated.

Always check air pressure when your tyresare ‘‘cold’’ when the motorcycle has beenparked for at least three hours. If you checkair pressure when your tyres are ‘‘warm’’when the motorcycle has been ridden foreven a few miles the readings will behigher than if the tyres were ‘‘cold’’. This isnormal, so do not let air out of the tyres tomatch the recommended cold air pressuresgiven below. If you do, the tyres will beunderinflated.

If a tyre is punctured or damaged, youshould replace it, not repair it. As discussedbelow, a tyre that is repaired, eithertemporarily or permanently, will have lowerspeed and performance limits than a newtyre.

A temporary repair, such as an externaltubeless tyre plug, may not be safe fornormal speeds and riding conditions. If atemporary or emergency repair is made to atyre, you should ride slowly and cautiouslyto a dealer and have the tyre replaced. Ifpossible, you should not carry a passengeror cargo until a new tyre is installed.

Even if a tyre is professionally repaired witha permanent internal patch plug, it will notbe as good as a new tyre. You should notexceed 80 km/h (50 mph) for the first 24hours, or 120 km/h (75 mph) at any timethereafter. In addition, you may not be ableto safely carry as much weight as with anew tyre. T heref ore, we stronglyrecommend that you replace a damagedtyre. If you choose to have a tyre repaired,be sure the wheel is balanced before youride.

The start button is used for starting theengine. Pushing the button in starts theengine. See Starting Procedure, page .

If your motorcycle is stopped with theignition switch ON and the engine stopswitch (OFF), the headlight, positionlights, taillight and license light will still beon, resulting in battery discharge.

When the start button is pushed, the startermotor will crank the engine and theheadlight, position lights, taillight andlicense light will stay on.

The engine stop switch ( ) is next to thethrottle grip. When the switch is in the

(RUN) position, the engine will operate.When the switch is in the (OFF)position, the engine will not operate. Thisswitch is intended primarily as anemergency switch and should normallyremain in the (RUN) position.

Your motorcycle’s exhaust containspoisonous carbon monoxide gas. Highlevels of carbon monoxide can collectrapidly in enclosed areas such as a garage.Do not run the engine with the garage doorclosed. Even with the door open, run theengine only long enough to move yourmotorcycle out of the garage.

To protect the catalytic converter in yourmotorcycle’s exhaust system, avoidextending idling and the use of leadedpetrol.

Do not use the electric starter for more than5 seconds at a time. Release the start buttonfor approximately 10 seconds beforepressing it again.

This motorcycle has a fuel-injected enginewith an automatic choke. Follow theprocedure indicated below.

Any Air Temperature:

The engine will not start if the throttle isfully open (because the electronic controlmodule cuts off the fuel supply).

With the throttle completely closed, pressthe start button.

The PGM-FI malfunction indicator lamp(MIL) is OFF.

The engine stop switch is at (RUN).The ABS indicator is ON.

Make sure flammable materials such as drygrass or leaves do not come in contact withthe exhaust system when riding, idling, orparking your motorcycle.

After the engine has been warmed up,the motorcycle is ready for riding.While the engine is idling, pull in theclutch lever and depress the shift lever toshift into 1st (low) gear.

For normal braking, apply both the brakepedal and lever while down-shifting tomatch your road speed. For maximumbraking, close the throttle and firmly applythe pedal and lever; pull in the clutch leverbefore coming to a complete stop to preventstalling the engine.

Independent operation of only the brakelever or brake pedal reduces stoppingperformance.Extreme application of the brake controlsmay cause wheel lock, reducing control ofthe motorcycle.When possible, reduce speed or brakebefore entering a turn; closing thethrottle or braking in mid-turn may causewheel slip. When riding in wet or rainy conditions, oron loose surfaces, the ability to maneuverand stop will be reduced. All of youractions should be smooth under theseconditions. Rapid acceleration, braking orturning may cause loss of control. Foryour safety, exercise extreme cautionwhen braking, accelerating or turning.

Important Safety Reminders:When descending a long, steep grade,use engine compression braking by down-shifting, with intermittent use of bothbrakes.Continuous brake application canoverheat the brakes and reduce theireffectiveness.Riding with your foot resting on thebrake pedal or your hand on the brakelever may actuate the brakelight, giving afalse indication to other drivers. It mayalso overheat the brakes, reducingeffectiveness.

〈 〉This motorcycle is equipped with a CombiBrake. Operating the front brake leverapplies the front brake. Operating the rearbrake pedal applies the rear brake and aportion of the front brake. For full brakingeffectiveness, use both the lever and pedalsimultaneously, as you would with aconventional motorcycle braking system.As with a conventional motorcycle brakingsystem, excessively hard application of thebrake controls may cause wheel lock,reducing control of the motorcycle.

This model is also equipped with an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) designed to helpprevent wheel lock up during hard brakingon uneven or other poor surfaces whilerunning straight. Although the wheel maynot lock up if you are braking too hard in aturn the motorcycle can still lose traction,causing a loss of control.

ABS does not function if the battery isdischarged.

ABS does not function at low speeds(approximately 10 km/h (6 mph) orbelow).

ABS may be activated by riding over asharp drop or rise in the road level.It is important to follow the tyrerecommendations (page ). The ABScomputer works by comparing wheelspeed. Non-recommended tyres canaffect wheel speed and may confuse theABS computer.

ABS is self-checking and always on.

ABS cannot make up for road conditions,bad judgment, or improper operation of thebrakes. It is still your responsibility to rideat reasonable speeds for weather, roadsurface, and traffic conditions, and to leavea margin of safety.

In some situations, a motorcycle with ABSmay require a longer stopping distance tostop on loose or uneven surfaces than anequivalent motorcycle without ABS.

〈 〉Normally, this indicator comes on when theignition is turned ON, and goes off after youride the motorcycle at speed above 10 km/h(6 mph). If there is an ABS problem, theindicator flashes and remains on. The ABSsystem does not operate when the ABSindicator is on.

If the ABS indicator comes on while riding,stop the motorcycle in a safe place and turnoff the engine.Turn the ignition ON again. The indicatorshould come on, and go off after you ridethe motorcycle at speeds above 10 km/h (6mph). If it does not go off, ABS is notfunctioning, but the brakes still work aCombined Brake System and providenormal stopping ability. However, youshould have the system checked by yourdealer as soon as possible.

The ABS indicator may flash if you turn therear wheel while the motorcycle is uprighton the stand. This is normal. Turn theignition OFF, then turn it ON. The indicatorshould come on, then go off after you runthe motorcycle above 30 km/h (19 mph).

Park the motorcycle on firm, level ground toprevent it from falling over.If you must park on a slight incline, aim thefront of the motorcycle uphill to reduce thepossibility of rolling off the side stand oroverturning.

Lock the steering to help prevent theft(page ).

After stopping the motorcycle, shift thetransmission into neutral, turn thehandlebar fully to the left, turn theignition switch OFF and remove the key.Use the side stand to support themotorcycle while parked.

Make sure flammable materials such as drygrass or leaves do not come in contact withthe exhaust system when parking yourmotorcycle.

The exhaust pipe and muffler become veryhot during operation and remain sufficientlyhot to inflict burns if touched even aftershutting off the engine.

JASO T 903 standardThe JASO T 903 standard is an index forengine oils for 4-stroke motorcycle engines.There are two classes: MA and MB.Oil conforming to the standard is labeled onthe oil container. For example, the followinglabel shows the MA classification.

Viscosity grade of engine oil should bebased on average atmospheric temperaturein your riding area. The following provides aguide to the selection of the proper grade orviscosity of oil to be used at variousatmospheric temperatures.

Engine oil quality is the chief factoraffecting engine service life. Change theengine oil as specified in the maintenanceschedule (page ).When running in very dusty conditions, oilchanges should be performed moref r equent ly t han spec i f i ed in t hemaintenance schedule.

Please dispose of used engine oil in amanner that is compatible with theenvironment. We suggest you take it in asealed container to your local recyclingcenter or service station for reclamation. Donot throw it in the trash or pour it on theground or down a drain.

Used engine oil may cause skin cancer ifrepeatedly left in contact with the skin forprolonged periods. Although this is unlikelyunless you handle used oil on a daily basis,it is still advisable to thoroughly wash yourhands with soap and water as soon as possi-ble after handling used oil.

Changing the oil filter requires a torquewrench. If you do not have it and thenecessary skill, we recommend that youhave your dealer perform this service.

If a torque wrench is not used for thisinstallation, see your dealer as soon aspossible to verify proper assembly.

Change the engine oil with the engine atnormal operating temperature and themotorcycle on its side stand to assurecomplete and rapid draining.

To drain the oil, remove the oil fill cap, oildrain bolt ( ) and sealing washer ( ).

Place a drain pan under the crankcase. Install the new oil filter with the ‘‘OUT-SIDE’’ mark ( ) facing out.Use only the Honda Genuine oil filter or afilter of equivalent quality specified foryour model. Using the wrong Honda filteror a non-Honda filter which is not ofequivalent quality may cause enginedamage.

-Improper installation of the oil filter cancause serious engine damage.

Install the oil fill cap.Start the engine and let it idle for 3 5minutes.2 3 minutes after stopping the engine,check that the oil level is at the upperlevel mark in the inspection window withthe motorcycle upright on firm, levelground. Make sure there are no oil leaks.

The service life of the drive chain ( ) isdependent upon proper lubrication andadjustment. Poor maintenance can causepremature wear or damage to the drivechain and sprockets.The drive chain should be checked,adjusted and lubricated as part of the Pre-ride Inspection (page ). Under severeusage, or when the motorcycle is ridden inunusually dusty or muddy areas, morefrequent maintenance will be necessary.

Turn the engine off, place the motorcycleon its side stand and shif t thetransmission into neutral.

Inspection:

Check slack in the lower drive chain runmidway between the sprockets.Drive chain slack should be adjusted toallow the following vertical movement byhand:

Roll the motorcycle forward. Stop. Checkthe drive chain slack. Repeat thisprocedure several times. Drive chainslack should remain constant. If the chainis slack only in certain sections, somelinks are kinked and binding. Binding andkinking can frequently be eliminated bylubrication.

Adjustment: If the drive chain requires adjustment, theprocedure is as follows:

Place the motorcycle on its side stand ona firm, level surface with the transmissionin neutral and the ignition switch OFF.Loosen the rear axle nut ( ).

Turn both drive chain adjusting nuts ( )an equal number of turns until the correctdrive chain slack is obtained. Turn thedrive chain adjusting nuts clockwise totighten the chain, or counterclockwise toprovide more slack. Check rear axle alignment by makingsure the chain adjuster index marks ( )align with the rear edge ( ) of theadjusting slots.Both left and right marks shouldcorrespond. If the axle is misaligned, turnthe left or right adjusting nut until themarks correspond on the rear edge of theadjusting slots and recheck chain slack.

After inspecting the slack, clean the chainand sprockets while rotating the rear wheel.Use dry cloth with chain cleaner designedspecifically for O-ring chains, or neutraldetergent. Be sure to turn the ignition switch OFFwhen replacing the bulb.Do not use bulbs other than thosespecified.After installing a new bulb, check that thelight operates properly.

Clean your motorcycle regularly to protectthe surface finishes and inspect for damage,wear, and oil, coolant or brake fluid leakage.

Avoid cleaning products that are notspecifically designed for motorcycle orautomobile surfaces.They may contain harsh detergents orchemical solvents that could damage themetal, paint, and plastic on your motorcycle.

If your motorcycle is still warm from recentoperation, give the engine and exhaustsystem time to cool off.

We recommend avoiding the use of highpressure water spray (typical in coin-operated car washes).

Rinse the motorcycle thoroughly withcool water to remove loose dirt.Clean the motorcycle with a sponge orsoft cloth using cool water.Avoid directing water to muffler outletsand electrical parts.Clean the plastic parts using a cloth orsponge dampened with a solution of milddetergent and water. Rub the soiled areagently rinsing it frequently with freshwater.Take care to keep brake fluid or chemicalsolvents off the motorcycle.They will damage the plastic and paintedsurfaces.

The inside of the headlight lens may beclouded immediately after washing themotorcycle. Moisture condensation insidethe headlight lens will disappear graduallyby lighting the headlight in high beam. Runthe engine while keeping the headlight on.

Change the engine oil.

Extended storage, requires that you takecertain steps to reduce the effects ofdeteriorat ion f rom non-use of themotorcycle. In addition, necessary repairsshould be made BEFORE storing themotorcycle; otherwise, these repairs may beforgotten by the time the motorcycle isremoved from storage.

Empty the fuel tank into an approvedpetrol container using a commerciallyavailable hand siphon or an equivalentmethod. Spray the inside of the tank withan aerosol rust-inhibiting oil.Reinstall the fuel fill cap on the tank.

Personal safety is your first priority after acrash. If you or anyone else has beeninjured, take time to assess the severity ofthe injuries and whether it is safe tocontinue riding. Call for emergencyassistance if needed. Also follow applicablelaws and regulations if another person orvehicle is involved in the crash.

If you decide that you are capable of ridingsafely, first evaluate the condition of yourmotorcycle. If the engine is still running,turn it off and look it over carefully; inspectit for fluid leaks, check the tightness ofcritical nuts and bolts, and secure such partsas the handlebar, control levers, brakes, andwheels.

If there is minor damage, or you are unsureabout possible damage, ride slowly andcautiously. Always use unleaded petrol. Even a smallamount of leaded petrol can contaminatethe catalyst metals, making the catalyticconverter ineffective.

Keep the engine in good runningcondition.A poorly running engine can cause thecatalytic converter to overheat causingdamage to the converter or themotorcycle.

This motorcycle is equipped with a catalyticconverter.The catalytic converter contains preciousmetals that serve as catalysts, promotingchemical reactions to convert the exhaustgasses without affecting the metals.The catalytic converter acts on HC, CO, andNOx. A replacement unit must be anoriginal Honda part or its equivalent.

The catalytic converter must operate at ahigh temperature for the chemical reactionsto take place. It can set on fire anycombustible materials that come near it.Park your motorcycle away from highgrasses, dry leaves, or other flammables.

If your engine is misfiring, backfiring,stalling, or otherwise not runningproperly, stop riding and turn off theengine. Have your motorcycle serviced assoon as possible.
