Charles Dickens is probably the most famous author in the english language

Why is he so famous ?

He wrote about the ordinary people and the difficult lives they had.

He wrote his stories in exciting chapters so people looked forward to the next chapter.

Birth Charles Dickens was born

in Portsmouth in 1812

Working As a young boy he had to

work in a factory which was cruel , had rats running around the floor, was cold, dark and miserable.

He only went to school for short periods because his father was regularly in Debtors’ prison

Journalist

As Charles could read and write he became a journalist for the newspaper.

Newspapers were popular at this time.

He died in 1858 aged 46 and is one of the most famous people buried in Westminster Abbey in London
