  • DAY CAMPS College of DuPage offers a variety of summer camps and classes in the Glen Ellyn and Naperville areas. Students entering kindergarten through grade 12 have the opportunity to attend academic classes to review concepts or get ahead, as well as enrichment classes for general interest and fun.

    EXPLORER CAMP Kindergarten to Grade 6 College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Student Resource Center (SRC), Glen Ellyn

    Join our Explorer Camp for an unforgettable summer of fun! Themes change weekly and include educational components taught by endorsed teachers, art projects, physical activities and thematic feld trips on most Fridays. Camps run Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students should bring a sack lunch, or purchase lunch from the cafeteria. Details are available at cod.edu/summerlunch.

    The cost is $249 for fve-day attendance or $70 for daily attendance. The week of July 2 is $199 for four-day attendance (no camp Wednesday, July 4).

    If you have outgrown day camp, but are too young to get a job, the Counselor Training (CT) program may be justfor you! Counselors in training work closely with Summer Explorer day campers, and will have the opportunityto organize and lead age-appropriate activities while under the supervision of a camp aide. The program runsMonday to Thursday (two-week intervals) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Participants may bring a sack lunch orpurchase a lunch in the cafeteria.     LOCATIONS Naperville Yellow Box, 1635 Emerson Lane, Naperville

    Teen X-Treme camps offer older students all-day experiences featuring some of the hottest topics in town! The class schedule is Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:50 p.m., with an hour for lunch. Classes are held on campus in Glen Ellyn and at our Naperville location. Students may bring a sack lunch or purchase a lunch in the cafeteria. The cafeteria has limited hours during the summer and will be closed during the month of August. Find details at cod.edu/summerlunch. The Naperville location does not have a cafeteria.

    No classes meet on Wednesday, July 4. During the week of July 4, Teen X-Treme Camps will have a modifed schedule: Two, separate, two-day camps are available. Details appear in the table below.

    Teen X-Treme Descriptions 3D Animation Learn to bring 3D characters to life as you animate their movements! Start with the basics by creating a ball bounce animation and move on to animating a walk cyclemaking your character fow through the movements of a realistic-looking walk.

    3D Modeling and Printing Gain an introduction to the fundamentals of 3D modeling and animation. Learn the basics of Maya, an industry-grade 3D software environment, and begin the process of making your own video game. Learn how to use a 3D printer and print the models you create.

    Art Studio Explore your imagination through a variety of art media. Designed to inspire creativity, this course allows students to explore a variety of ideas and media through the arts. No previous art training is neededwell help you discover your inner artist!

    Babysitting Basics Ready to take on the challenges and responsibilities of babysitting? Learn the basics of caring for

    young children including how to handle bedtime, communicating with parents, cooking and nutrition information, and safety training. This class introduces the essentials for caring for babies as well as fun games and tips and tricks for watching toddlers and older children.

    Drone Flying This exciting two-day camp familiarizes students with the basics of operating a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Through classroom and hands-on fying exercises, students cover topics such as FAA rules, air traffc control (ATC) airspace, weather, tactical operations, fight control, accuracy and different uses of the UAV. Students experience what its like to sit in the cockpit with frst-person view (FPV) goggles as they put their skills to work in several UAV challenges.

    Lego Robotic Technology Program computers and use mathematics to model the movements of robotic devices. In small teams, using LEGO blocks, motors and sensors, build robots that can walk, draw, move objects or fnd their own way and avoid obstacles. Use a control console or computer to teach your robot to move, react and make sounds in order to solve challenges.

    Master Chefs Learn new kitchen skills in our state of the art cooking facility! Students gain hands-on experience with a variety of techniques and recipes that can be recreated at home. Makeand eatnew foods every day!

    Video Game Design I Use game development tools like Unreal Engine 4 to learn basic game design elements from game fow and character creation to backgrounds and sound all wrapped into blueprint block programming exercises.

    Video Game Design II Carrying over what you started in Video Game Design I, students continue to create their video game using Unreal Engine 4. Students add features into their games, such as health systems, enemy AI and pickups. Get further in depth with game design and work towards completing a fnished game. Prerequisite: Video Game Design I

  • VIDEO GAME DESIGN SERIES Grades 7 to 10

    Advance your video game design skills by taking some or all of these Teen X-Treme courses. Complete all four and you will be able to create and animate a character and then use that character within a video game of your own design!

    High school students can then check out the Video Game Level Design Career Exploration course. See page 14 in the High School 2018 Summer Class Schedule for details.

    COOKING CLASSES with Chef Nathalie Young chefs gain hands-on experience in the state-of-the-art facilities of the Culinary & Hospitality Center at College of DuPage. These fun recipes and culinary techniques can be recreated at home!

    Chef Nathalie began cooking when she was a child, too! Her favorite thing to cook is pasta. She graduated from College of DuPages Culinary Arts program in 2016 and is now a baker at Blackberry Market in downtown Glen Ellyn. She is known as their macaron master and cake decorating super specialist.

  • ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT PROGRAM Our enrichment program features classes that improve academic and language skills, develop an appreciation for art and drama, and provide opportunities to explore technology. All classes meet Monday to Friday, except for the week of July 2. No classes meet on Wednesday, July 4.

    Parents are responsible for escorting students to and from all classes, unless the student is enrolled in both a morning and afternoon class and registered for supervision ($30 per week).

    Podcasting Have you ever wondered what Podcasts are all about? Learn about what a Podcast is and how to research, plan, practice and record your own!

    Public Speaking Become a poised and confdent speaker as you practice writing and presenting several types of speeches. Speech team basics and impromptu speaking are also covered.

    Reading and Notetaking Become a more active and engaged reader by developing or reviewing your reading and note-taking skills.     TALENT SEARCH The Talent Search program at College of DuPage provides challenging academic experiences that enhance the achievement and performance of gifted students. Courses are designed to complement coursework anticipated at higher levels, cover an extended range of topics, and use innovative approaches to learning. Talent Search classes are not eligible for school credit, and grades will not be given. Instructors will assess students comprehension and class participation. Homework may be assigned.

    Eligibility Students who have tested in the 95th percentile or higher on an appropriate achievement test (ACT, SAT, Explore, etc.) are eligible to apply.     Algebra I Designed to emphasize the study of linear and non-linear functions, this course introduces mathematical concepts involving rational numbers, analyzing and solving linear equations and inequalities, data analysis, probability, statistics, and polynomials. Students will use hands-on materials to solve problems. Bring your graphing calculator, if you have one. Textbook required: Common Core Algebra I (ISBN: 978-0133281149)

    Algebra II with Trigonometry Expand your algebraic and geometric understanding. Develop advanced algebra skills including an understanding of systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and trigonometric functions. This course also introduces matrices and their properties. Prerequisite: Algebra I and Geometry. Textbook required: Common Core Algebra II (ISBN: 978-0133281163).

    English Works Read and analyze selections from classic and contemporary literary works. Demonstrate understanding of the literature through varied writing assignments and classroom activities.     Algebraic Expressions For students who have not yet taken Algebra I, this class is an introduction to linear and quadratic equations, polynomials, rational functions and graphing. Class highlights include factoring algebraic expressions and using algebra to solve word problems.

You may also register by writing to the Continuing Education offce at [email protected]. Parents/students need to use the registration form at the back of this catalog to register for classes when mailing or faxing. Complete all the information requested on the form.

    ADAFor College of DuPage classes, every effort will be made to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities.
