Employees in the Construction Carpentry trade construct formwork and falsework for residential and commercial applications. They use carpentry tools and equipment including explosive powered tools, carry out excavation and general demolition of minor building structures, carry out setting out and levelling operations, erect and dismantle formwork for footings and slabs on ground and construct, erect and dismantle formwork for stairs and ramps. They must be able to work safely at heights. They may also perform the following tasks:

• erect and dismantle formwork to suspended slabs, columns, beams and walls • construct bulkheads and assemble partitions • construct timber external stairs • erect and dismantle jump and slip form formwork • erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding • operate elevated work platforms.

If you are seeking recognition in the Construction Carpentry trade, you must provide evidence demonstrating the nature and duration of your employment, such as:

• log books or job cards illustrating the nature of trade work you have performed • work-related references from employers and qualified supervisors outlining the duration of

employment and detailing the nature of work you have performed, procedures applied and tools and equipment used which are consistent with the Construction Carpentry trade. References must be signed, dated and on your employer’s letterhead.

• formal training records, evidence of relevant training completed • any other evidence that demonstrates that you are competent or trained to work as a

Construction Carpenter.
