Customer Spotlight: Classic Kitchens Etc.

Classic Kitchens Etc., located in Ontario, CA, is a second generation family-owned business with over two decades of experience in residential and commercial remodeling. Their services also include complete design/build kitchen and bathroom projects for newly constructed homes and homeowner remodeling projects.

They start with an in-home consultation to get measurements and discuss their customer’s vision for the space. They will then set up an appointment in their showroom with one of their designers to create the design and make selections for the flooring, cabinetry, countertops, hardware, lighting, plumbing and other aspects of the design. A project manager will then be assigned to manage the construction process and ensure that all the important elements are in place to successfully execute the project.

Their beautiful showroom showcases many examples of cabinetry, countertops and flooring, and their design team takes customers through the entire process to create a design and plan that fits their budget. They also fabricate all natural stone and quartz for countertops; tile work for baths, fireplaces and accent walls, and provide all types of flooring—from carpet to wood to porcelain tiles.

Classic Kitchens Etc., has built a reputation for their quality, efficiency and dependable customer service

Our Favorite Design Trends of 2018

Better in black: In 2018, designers all rallied around black. From furniture to prints, cabinets and even walls, black made a comeback big time. Probably one of the most interesting uses of the color we saw this year was with all-black walls. It may seem a little bold, but an all-black wall can create a feeling of power and dramatic elegance in your home. It definitely would be memorable! This trend also showed up in kitchens…where darker shades of cabinets and countertops were offset with natural woods and brass fixtures.

Bringing the outside in: Sustainable living, whether through products or in design features, was a big favorite in 2018. The use of wood and natural stone materials such as gravel, granite, and marble was included in kitch-ens, baths and dining rooms, as were handcrafted and recycled materials. We saw earthy color schemes over-take the ever popular grey trend, as designers turned to colors you would find in natural settings such as soft greens, browns and blues. The use of plants and greenery was another way designers looked to nature for inspira-tion…from live plants to leaf covered pillows, or even wallpaper designs.

Designers in 2018 were definitely not afraid to make a state-ment−from bold colors (even black!), to mother nature as inspiration−designers also looked to the past (vintage was back!) with patterns and wall treatments this year. Here’s a look at a few of our favorite design trends of 2018.

Cajun Chicken Lasagna

Our Favorite Design Trends of 2018 (continued)2018’s “Comeback Kid” was wallpaper: Wallpaper was back this year and better than ever. From dramatic patterns and bold colors, wallpaper was often used in place of artwork and paint. Many of the most popular designs featured land-scapes, geometric shapes, and artistic patterns.

Ceilings make a statement: Want to find one of the biggest design trends this year? All you have to do is look up. The 5th wall in a room (aka the ceiling), made a big impression in 2018. Just like wall-paper, ceilings took on bold patterns and geometric shapes to create an impact in the room. Exposing or adding beams or tiles to the ceiling can completely change the look of a room.

Sick of the same dinners this winter? Try this zesty Cajun Chicken Lasagna recipe from Delish.

• kosher salt• 3/4 lb. lasagna noodles• 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil• 1 onion, diced• 1 red bell pepper, diced• 1 yellow bell pepper, diced• 2 cloves garlic, minced• 1 lb. chicken breast, diced• Freshly ground black pepper• 3 tbsp. unsalted butter

• 1 tbsp. Cajun seasoning (without salt)• 3 tbsp. all-purpose flour• 1/2 c. freshly grated Parmesan• 2 c. whole milk• 1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley• 16 oz. whole milk ricotta• 1 large egg• 16 oz. grated mozzarella

Preheat oven 375°. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook lasagna noodles until very al dente. Drain and put to the side.

Start on the filling: Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Cook onion and bell peppers until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add chicken, season with salt and pepper, and cook until golden and no longer pink. Transfer mixture to a plate.

Make sauce: To skillet over medium heat, add butter. Once melt-ed, sprinkle with Cajun seasoning and flour and cook 1 minute. Whisk in milk and let simmer until thick and creamy, about 3 minutes. Turn off heat and stir in Parmesan and parsley.

Assemble lasagna: In a small bowl, stir together ricotta and egg and season with more salt and pepper. In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of sauce. Add a layer of lasagna noodles, top with a third of the ricotta mixture, a third of the chicken-vegeta-ble mixture, another layer of sauce, and a third of the mozzarella. Repeat until all ingredients are used, ending with mozzarella.

Bake for 35 minutes or until bubbly and golden. Garnish with remaining parsley and serve.

Manage Kitchen Clutter

Managing kitchen clutter can feel daunting when you look at it as a whole. It is important to tackle each cabinet individually. Try to keep similar items together. Keeping similar items together will not only make it easier to find what you are looking for, but it will also show you what items you have doubled up on.

Have a couple boxes ready for items you have multiples of and for items you never use. Donate these items right away so they don’t end up back in your cabinets.

It might seem a little counterintuitive, but keep things off the counter unless it is used frequently. Toaster, coffee makers, and certain utensils are fine since they are used often, but pans and the blender can be hidden in the cabinets.

Once the kitchen space is cleared out of all the items you are donating or discarding, add a little organization. Mount items to the wall when you can, like a calendar or to-do list. A small shelf or mail holder will keep paperwork that finds its way into the kitchen from being all over the counter.

The kitchen is the most social spot in the house, which means it also tends to get the most cluttered. From book bags to to-do lists, to regular kitchen equipment, everything seems to end up taking up space in the kitchen.
