What are some uses of the river?

The Detroit River is a very unique fishery compared to anywhere else in the country!

There are many kinds of fish in the Detroit River such as the Detroit river walleye.

The Detroit River has very unique characteristics which include deep channels to fish, a very strong current, lots of wind, and tons of boat and ship traffic.

How was the river used in the past and how is it used today?In the past, the Detroit river was mostly used for shipping and transportation. Now in modern times we have more highways, trucks, and railways. So now, the river is not used for shipping as much as it was in the past, because we have new inventions instead of just using the river.

The Detroit River originates from Lake St. Clair which is located between Canada and the U.S. state of Michigan. The Detroit River ends in Lake Erie which is located in between Canada, Ohio, and Michigan.

What are some positive and negative effects on the Detroit River?Some of the negative effects on the river are pollution, and invasive species such as Round Gobies which has been an invasive species to the river since 1995. Some of the positive effects on the river include natural habitat, and natural recourses which can be found all around its waters.

Natural versus manmade changes in the Detroit River and how they have affected settlements

Natural changes on the Detroit River include erosion and floods. This affected settlements by making them move their houses because of the erosion of the river. Floods affect settlements by ruining peoples homes and tearing them apart causing people not wanting to live their, and move.

Non-natural changes on the Detroit River are invasive species and pollution. Invasive species affects The Detroit River by killing local species or taking over their food or water supply. Pollution affects the Detroit River by making the river dirty and driving away or killing some fish.
