    and are ready to assume their

    status in society along with other

    adults.

    SETTLING-DOWN AGE

    The trying-out both young men and

    women today to through the trying-out

    process before they are willing to consider

    settling down.

    MEN

    Different line of work if it meets their needs

    best and which will bring them lifelongsatisfaction.

    Different women to find out if they have the

    qualities they want for a lifelong spouse.

    WOMEN

    They take jobs to see if they prefer working to

    marriage or want to combine both.

    They date and or go steady with differentmen before they decide on the one they

    believe will make a satisfactory life-mate.

    The average adult of today has chosen a

    lifestyle and an individual to share that

    lifestyle by the early thirties, though many do

    so before then.

    meets their needs throughout thelifespan.

    assume.

    PATTERN OF LIFEWhen a person decide on what life pattern

    he will follow that will meet his needs, he

    will develop a pattern of behaviors,

    attitudes and values which tend to be hisfor the remainder of his life.

    Discontent and unhappiness in middle

    and old age can be traced to settling down

    before finding a life pattern that offers

    possibilities for lifelong satisfaction.

    most young adults.Pursuing careers before and

    after marriage.

    ADULTHOOD IS DIFFICULT

    Very few young people are prepared.

    Trying to learn two or more skillssimultaneously.

    The absence of help in meeting andsolving problems just like when they

    are much younger.

    EARLY ADULTHOOD IS APERIOD OF

    EMOTIONAL TENSION

    What young adults worry about will

    depend on what adjustment problems

    they are facing.

    How much success and failure they are

    experiencing in meeting these problems.

    When emotional tension persists it is

    generally expressed in worries.They become emotionally disturbed that

    they contemplate or attempt suicide.

    EARLY ADULTHOOD IS A

    PERIOD OF SOCIAL ISOLATION

    Social Isolation Erikson referred to as

    isolation crisis.

    Loneliness from isolation depends on how

    quickly and how satisfactorily the youngadult can establish new social conducts.

    Isolation is intensified by a competitive

    spirit and a strong desire to rise on the

    vocational ladder.

    As a result, they become self-centered,

    which contributes to loneliness.

    TIME OF COMMITMENTS

    Change of roles establishes

    new patterns of living.

    These roles may change but

    will still form as afoundation.

    EARLY CHILDHOOD IS OFTEN A

    PERIOD OF DEPENDENCY

    Financial support from Parents,

    Educational Institutions, or Government.

    Question the ability to become

    economically independent and become

    perpetual students.

    As a result, their state of dependency is

    often prolonged into the late twenties or

    early thirties.
