EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS AND QUAKEHOLD MUSEUM PUTTY

In this, our second article dedicated to earthquake preparedness and safety in the home, we take a look at QuakeHOLD! Museum Putty - the original product on the market for securing breakables and collectibles in your home. If you live in an earthquake zone, this product is definitely something that you need to know about as part of your earthquake preparedness planning. Because earthquakes can happen at any time, anywhere, are violent and strike without warning, being prepared is your best defense. A lot of people don’t realize that breakables and collectibles in the home can become potential hazards in an earthquake. China, pottery and ceramic items can fly off shelves causing injury if they hit you. If it's fragile and/or expensive enough to be a significant loss if it breaks, it should be secured in place. The good news is that preparing a home for a major earthquake is easy and affordable. QuakeHOLD! Museum Putty This is the original earthquake preparedness product that was developed in California in the early 1990s. It’s an award-winning product that secures antiques, collectibles, figurines and more from falling and breaking. It can be used on most surfaces, including ceramics, porcelains and laminates, as well as on walls to help stabilize pictures. It is removable and reusable, non-toxic and is really easy to apply. Tear off a small amount of putty from the sleeve that it’s packaged in, roll it into balls (each about the size of a pea) or strips and put them on the bottom of the item to be secured. Press the object lightly on to the surface and give it a slight twist, then allow it to sit for an hour so that it sticks to the surface. The putty won’t damage your items or the surface they’re adhered to. It comes off just as easily. Twist the secured item from its base to break the seal and then lift it upwards.

If there is any residual product left on the surface, simply roll it onto itself or dab it with another bit of putty to remove it.

QuakeHOLD! Museum Putty will hold items that weigh up to 40 lbs and one 2.6 oz packet will secure up to 40 objects of average size. The beauty of using this temporary adhesive to secure your items is that you can display your collection for all to see and still have peace of mind knowing that nothing will fall off the shelf and will help you establish earthquake preparedness.
