THE UNIVERSITY
The University of Economics, Prague
(Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze, VŠE) is a national public
university performing on the fields of management,
economics and political science in the Czech Republic with
more than 20 000 students and 700 pedagogical university
members. VŠE places a high priority on strengthening
its international ties and currently has over 130 partner
universities from all over Europe, North and South America,
Australia and Asia.
The University is also a member of many international
organizations (e.g. EFMD, EUA, EIASM, Consortium of

universidad pública nacional líder en el ámbito de
gestión, economía y ciencias políticas en la República
Checa con más de 20 000 estudiantes y 700 pedagogos.
Tiene entre sus más altas prioridades el desarrollo de las
relaciones internacionales y en la actualidad cuenta con

FACULTY
OF ECONOMICS
The Faculty of Economics
Was established in 1991. The faculty offers ten fields of
specializations, including new courses concerning regional
development and European economic integration.
The Faculty currently has more than 2,500 students and 100
professors. On top of its pedagogical activities, the Faculty
plays a significant role in national as well as international
scientific research and has an important position as an
advisory body to many government institutions and state
administration.
Research performed by the Faculty has resulted in
numerous publications including monographs on Czech
economic theory and economic policy. Judging by the
number of resident experts and the importance of its
scientific and research output, the Faculty has an important
position in the Czech economic system, national economic
research, and the development of social science enquiry.
The Faculty also attaches great importance to the many
international exchanges in which it participates.

La Facultad de Ciencias Económicas,
Fue establecida en 1991. La Facultad ofrece diez especiali-
dades, incluyendo nuevos cursos en materia de desarrollo
regional e integración económica europea.
En la actualidad la Facultad cuenta con más de 2.500 estudian-
tes y 100 profesores. Además de sus actividades pedagógicas.
La Facultad juega un papel fundamental en el campo de la
investigación tanto a nivel nacional como internacional y tiene
una importante posición como Órgano Consultivo de las auto-
ridades del Gobierno y la administración del Estado.
Las investigaciones llevadas a cabo por la Facultad se han
traducido en una serie de publicaciones, monografías sobre
la teoría económica checa y economía política. Al ser juzgado
por el número de expertos residentes y la importancia de sus
actividades de investigación científica, la Facultad tiene una
posición importante en el sistema económico checo, la investi-
gación económica nacional, y el desarrollo de la investigación
en ciencias sociales. También concede gran importancia a una
serie de intercambios internacionales en los que participa.

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS)
Is a research center of the Faculty of Economics of the
University of Economics in Prague.

LATINOAMERICANOS CLAS El Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos (CLAS)
Es un centro de investigación creado por la facultad de Cien-
cias Económicas de la Universidad de Economía
de Praga.
CLAS ensures the realization of a new Master´s
program in Economic and Regional Studies of
Latin America. CLAS is the first in Central Europe
to offer a double degree in cooperation with some
renowned universities in Latin America.
CLAS works on research projects with similar
centers both in Latin America and Europe and also
collaborates with the private sector, providing
private businesses with consultancy and expert
support concerning commercial relations with
private companies operating in Latin America.
CLAS also enables students to participate in
foreign exchange programs with Latin American
universities and furthermore organizes professional
conferences, workshops and seminars for students,
researchers and business enterprise dealing
with Latin America and its co-operation with the
European Union.
CLAS was honored by the visit of the Secretary
General of the OECD Mr. Angel Gurría, who
presented the issue “The OCED and the new Global
Architecture Governance” in the framework of the
Center´s activities.

CLAS garantiza la realización del nuevo programa de
estudios: Máster en “Economía y Estudios Regionales de
América Latina”. Ofrece un máster de doble titulación con
algunas de las más prestigiosas universidades de América
Latina.
CLAS colabora con otros centros similares en actividades
pedagógicas y de investigación que operan tanto en
América Latina como en Europa y también coopera con el
sector empresarial en la prestación de servicios de asesoría
y consultoría para las empresas que quieren establecer
relaciones comerciales con Latinoamérica.
CLAS apoya a los estudiantes y a los docentes en diferentes
programas de intercambio con distintas universidades lati-
noamericanas y además se dedica también a la realización
y organización de conferencias , seminarios y talleres para
estudiantes, investigadores y empresarios interesados en
América Latina y su trabajo con la Unión Europea.
CLAS tuvo el honor de tener la visita del Secretario General
de la OECD el seňor Angel Gurría quién dictó una charla en
la Universidad “The OECD and The New Global Architecture
Governance: Promoting Sustainable Growth” organizada
por el Centro.

distinguido Embajador de México en Praga, Excmo. Sr. José

Este programa ofrece la gran oportunidad de adquirir una
substancial experiencia internacional y la posibilidad de
obtener una doble titulación, una de la Universidad de
Economía de Praga y la segunda, de algunas de las más
prestigiosas universidades en América Latina.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The objective is to equip graduates with an understanding
of the economic and social systems of Latin American
countries. It provides our students with the skills and
knowledge necessary to work in professional and
managerial positions. These skills are also useful for
business and economic co-operation among the EU, the
Czech Republic and Latin American countries.
Graduates of the “Economic and Regional Studies of
Latin America” program improve their knowledge and
capabilities enabling them to analyze economic and
regional development with regards to the culturally specific
aspects throughout Latin America. The graduates will be
able to create strategies for public administration, that will
enable them to improve their knowledge of the Czech
Republic’s experience with the economic transformation,
restructuring and resolving regional disparities; they will
also be able to implement human resource development
program in Latin America.
The courses provide our students with both the theoretical
knowledge and practical experience necessary in a broad
range of economic and regional studies on Latin America.
Studies of Latin American economies, geography, social,
cultural and environmental aspects are a part of the
study program. The studies also focus on the integration
processes and impacts across the EU and Latin America.
OBJETIVOS DEL PROGRAMA
El objetivo es proporcionar a los graduados conocimientos
que les permitan comprender los sistemas económicos
y sociales de América Latina y Europa. Se proporcionará a los
estudiantes las habilidades y conocimientos para trabajar en
puestos profesionales y gerenciales en las áreas de coopera-
ción económica entre la UE, la República Checa y los países
de América Latina, así como el sector privado y financiero.
Obtendrán los conocimientos que les permitan analizar el
desarrollo económico y regional en lo que respecta a los
aspectos culturales específicos de los países latinoameri-
canos. El egresado también será capaz de crear estrategias
para la administración pública. También obtendrá informa-
ción sobre la experiencia de la República Checa en el ámbito
de la transformación económica y la reestructuración, la
resolución de las disparidades regionales y la aplicación de
programas centrados en el desarrollo de recursos humanos,
que podrían aplicarse en América Latina.
Las materias que se imparten proporcionarán a los estudian-
tes, tanto los conocimientos teóricos como la experiencia
práctica necesaria en una amplia gama de estudios econó-
micos y regionales en América Latina. Presentaciones sobre
la economía latinoamericana, su geografía, aspectos socia-
les, culturales y ambientales serán parte del programa de
estudios. Los estudios también se centrarán en los procesos
y resultados de la integración en Europa y América Latina.
DEGREE (DOUBLE DEGREE)
The Economic and Regional Studies of Latin America
Master´s degree is a national degree awarded by the
University of Economics, Prague. Graduates are entitled
to use the awarded academic title Ing. (meaning
Engineer of Economics) according to Czech legislation.
Our students may study for 2 years in Prague or finish
the second year of their studies in one of several
prestigious Latin American universities. In this case,
students may choose the language in which they wish
to study: English or Spanish. The partner programs
are fully compatible with our Czech program. Having
chosen this option, the graduation consists of two
degrees, one from VŠE and the second one from the
partner university.
Our current partners are located in Bolivia, Argentina
and Chile. We are intensively working on adding other
partner universities in Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
DOBLE TITULACIÓN (DOUBLE DEGREE) El programa Máster en Economía y Estudios Regionales
de América Latina es un máster nacional ofrecido por la
Universidad de Economía de Praga. Los egresados obtienen
el título de Ingeniero de acuerdo a la legislación checa.
Los estudiantes también tendrán la gran oportunidad de
estudiar su segundo año de estudios en una de las más
prestigiosas universidades de América Latina. Tendrán la
opción de estudiar en inglés o en español, de acuerdo al
programa y a la Universidad que elijan. Los programas con
las universidades asociadas son totalmente compatibles
con el programa checo. Los alumnos que elijan esta opción
se graduarán con dos grados, uno de la universidad checa
y el otro de una universidad asociada.
Nuestros actuales socios se encuentran en Bolivia,
Argentina y Chile. Estamos trabajando intensamente en
la adición de otras universidades en Brasil, México, Perú
y Uruguay.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE
(ACADEMIC YEAR)
Each semester consists of 13 weeks of studies followed
by the examination period of 3–4 weeks. Winter semester
generally begins in late September and the examination
period starts in January. Summer semester begins in
mid-February and ends with the examination period in
May/June. Students of the program are invited and more
than welcome to join Orientation Week, which begins
the academic year. It enables our students to learn about
the university system, rules and databases, meet other
international students and become familiar with the
campus and Prague.
MINOR SPECIALIZATION
It is recommended to combine the Master in Economic
and Regional Studies of Latin America with one of the
minor specializations in English available at the University
of Economics in Prague.
All subjects offered by CLAS within both the major and
the minor specializations, are taught in English by skilled
academic members and experts with wide international
experience.

ACADÉMICO Cada semestre consta de 13 semanas y le sigue un periodo
de exámenes (3–4 semanas).
El primer semestre comienza en otoño, a finales de
septiembre y el período de exámenes es en enero. El
segundo semestre comienza a mediados de febrero y el
período de exámenes es en Mayo/Junio.
Los estudiantes de este programa están invitados
a participar en la semana de orientación, que está
prevista antes del inicio del año académico y permite a los
estudiantes familiarizarse con los sistemas, normas y base
de datos de la Universidad.
SEGUNDA ESPECIALIDAD/
MENCIÓN Se recomienda combinar la maestría de Estudios
Económicos y Regionales de América Latina, con una
mención disponible en la universidad de Economía de
Praga.
Todas las materias tanto en la especialización principal
como en la mención se imparten en inglés por los mejores
expertos en América Latina, Europa y del Centro de
estudios europeos en la República Checa.
SEMESTER ABROAD
The unique opportunity to study abroad is one of the key
strengths of our program. It allows our students to be
completely immersed in an international environment,
which is an utter asset when later applying for internships
and jobs. The application process for the semester abroad
starts in the 2nd semester and the students spend the
3rd or 4th semester abroad. Our current partners for this
program are located in Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia,
with potential partnerships in progress in Mexico and
Uruguay.

REQUIREMENTS
The program is carefully designed for students from all over
the world who have completed their bachelor’s degree.
Previous education in the fields of international relations,
political science, history, law, economics, sociology, public
policy, public administration, or other social science or
humanities is an advantage. Students from other programs.
Students of other programs, though, may also apply.

SEMESTRE EN EL EXTRANJERO La posibilidad de estudiar en el extranjero es una de las
principales ventajas del programa. Ayuda a los estudiantes
a sumergirse en el entorno internacional, lo que propor-
ciona una enorme ventaja en la posterior búsqueda de
prácticas y/o puestos de trabajo. El proceso de solicitud
para el semestre en el extranjero comienza en el segundo
semestre del programa, los estudiantes pueden ir al extran-
jero durante el 3° o 4° semestre. Las universidades socias
con las que trabajamos actualmente en este programa se
encuentran Argentina, Chile y Bolivia. Estamos trabajan-
do en asociaciones con México y Uruguay.

anterior en relaciones internacionales, ciencias

procedure consists of a letter of motivation, which is

STUDENT STATUS
Students of this program obtain a student ID card which allows them to use the facilities and
services offered by the university, i.e. library, canteen, computer laboratory, WiFi connection, etc.
They also benefit from other student advantages, for example public transport student’s tariffs
and other reductions provided by the state and private institutions
LIBRARIES
The university´s library is open for students, subject to a simple registration procedure. The
library contains more than 450 thousand books, electronic information resources and many
international journals. The Center for Latin American Studies also has its own library to offer
some study books. Students can visit and use other public libraries in Prague.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Computers labs (International Study Centre-computers with an English menu) are available for
international students (with printers and copiers). There is free access to WiFi on the university
campus if you use your laptop. A study Centre is available in the dormitory.
ACCOMODATION
The Jarov university dormitory is available for international students (as well as Czech students).
It is situated in the Žižkov district in Prague 3, which is approximately 20 minutes from the
university. Double bedded rooms are equipped with internet access.
MEAL
Students may join the canteens facilities (Students´Hall) at the university and Jarov for
student´s prices. There are also another options (cafeterias, Academic Club, etc).
BUDDY SYSTEM
The VSE Buddy Systems is an Erasmus Student Network organization helps foreign students
arrange their social life in the Czech Republic. Students from abroad have a possibility to pair
up with Czech students who help them to settle more easily into the new environment. The
organization assists the foreign student in their preparation for arrival, and with the orientation
in the city, especially during the first few days. Foreign students are accompanied from the
airport or the train/bus station to the dormitory and are provided with a basic orientation
around the city and school. They are also assisted with school and other formalities (school ID
card, public transport pass, etc.). The Buddy System organizes trips, meetings, parties and other

FACILIDADES PARA LOS ESTUDIANTES DE LA UNIVERSIDAD VŠE
ESTATUS DE ESTUDIANTE
Los estudiantes de este programa obtienen una credencial, una tarjeta de estudiante que les permite utilizar las
instalaciones y servicios ofrecidos por la universidad, es decir, la biblioteca, la cantina, la sala de ordenadores,
conexión WiFi , etc. También se benefician de las ventajas como estudiantes: las tarifas especiales en el transporte
público para estudiantes y otras reducciones previstas por el Estado e instituciones privadas.
LA BIBLIOTECA
La biblioteca de la universidad está abierta para los estudiantes, con sujeción a un procedimiento de un sencillo
registro. La biblioteca contiene más de 450 000 libros, recursos de información electrónica y muchas revistas
internacionales. El Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos también tiene su propia biblioteca para ofrecer algunos
libros de estudio. Los estudiantes pueden visitar y utilizar otras bibliotecas públicas en Praga.
TECNOLOGÍA DE LA INFORMACIÓN
Los laboratorios de Informática (International Study Centre-ordenadores con un menú en inglés) están disponibles
para los estudiantes internacionales (con impresoras y fotocopiadoras). Hay acceso gratuito a Wi-Fi en el campus
universitario. Una Sala de Estudios está disponible cerca de las residencia universitaria.
ALOJAMIENTO
La residencia universitaria Jarov está disponible para los estudiantes internacionales (así como para los estudiantes
checos). Está situado en el distrito de Žižkov en Praga 3, es decir, aproximadamente 20 minutos de la Universidad.
Las habitaciones dobles están totalmente equipadas y con acceso a Internet.
COMIDA
Los estudiantes pueden comer en los comedores (Salón de Estudiantes) en el campus universitario y en la residencia
universitaria Jarov a precios muy bajos. También hay otros lugares donde comer (cafeterías, clubes académicos, etc)
EL SISTEMA BUDDY
El Sistema Buddy de la Universidad es una red de los Estudiantes de Erasmus para ayudar con la organización y la
vida social de los estudiantes extranjeros en la República Checa. A los estudiantes procedentes del extranjero se
les ofrece la posibilidad de sincronizar con un estudiante checo que les ayudará a desenvolverse más fácilmente en
el nuevo entorno. La organización ayuda antes de la llegada y durante la estancia del estudiante y especialmente
durante los primeros días. Los estudiantes extranjeros son acompañados desde el aeropuerto o la estación de
trenes/autobuses hasta la residencia universitaria y se les proporciona una orientación básica de la ciudad y la
universidad, se les proporciona asistencia con la universidad y otras formalidades (como la tarjeta de identificación
de la escuela, billete de transporte público, etc). El sistema de amigos organiza viajes, reuniones, fiestas y otras
actividades para estudiantes durante todo el curso académico.
