TRANSLATOR'S REMARK

This is an English translation of a book onginally published in Arabic by Ustaz Muhammad Bin Jumail Zaynu (Aprofessor at DAR AI-HADITH) Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The book, "Huz AQIIDATAKAMIN AL-QURAN WASUNNA ASAHIHAH" (Literally: Get Your Belief FromThe Quran And The Sound Prophetic Tradition). It providesanswers to some important questions relating to the Islamicbelief. Apart from this book, the author has written severalother important books on Islam. Some of which dealt withissues that are of fundamental importance to Muslims particularly those in West Africa. However, as the books arepublished mostly in the Arabic Language; majority of African Muslims cannot read and understand them. Englishremains the language of communication and administrationin Africa. For Muslims in Africa to derive maximum benefitfrom Islamic books, there is a need to get some of these bookstranslated into English.

It is therefore with this aim in mind that I translated thisbook into English.

If my modest effort is successful, it is by Allah's Graceand Guidance. But if it falls short of the reaocrs' expectations, I pray that Allah will forgive my imperfect judgements.

"Our Lord In Thee do we trust, and to Thee do we turnin repentance: to Thee is our final Goal" (Quran 60:4)

Preface

In The Name of Allah, The Gracious The Merciful.

Praise be to Allan, we ask Him; for help and forgivenessand we ask Him for protection against evils of ourselves andthe vices of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides to the rightpath, no-one can misguide him, and whoever Allah misguidesno-one can lead him tothe right path. I bear witness that thereis only one God (Allah) and that Muhammad is His Messenger.

This booklet consists of important questions and answerson Islamic Belief. Answers to these questions are based onevidence from the Quran and the Hadith (i.e. Prophet's sayings). Belief in the Oneness of Allah is the source of Man'shappiness on earth and in the Hereafter. I PCay to Allah thatthese questions and answers are beneficial to all brother Moslems and are solely for Allah's sake and pleasure.

ENTREATY AND REQUEST FOR INTERCESSION

Q: 1 BY WHAT SHOULD WE ENTREAT ALLAH?A: 1 There are permissible and forbidden forms of entreat

ing Allah.

i. The permissible and desired form of entreating (Allah)is to entreat by the names and attributes of Allah and bydeeds. Allah the Almighty says: "The most beautiful namesbelong to Allah; so call on Him by them". (Qur'an 7: 180)Again in another verse He says: "Oh ye who believe.' do yourduty to Allah, and seek the means of approach unto Him".(i.e. Getting closer to Him by obeying Him, and with deedsfor which He is pleased) (Ibn Kathir has referred to it quotingfrom Qatadah).

The Messenger of Allah (MPBUH) Said: "I ask Thee byevery name which belongs to Thee". (Sound Hadth relatedby Ahmad). And the saying of the Messenger of Allah to thecompanion who sought to be with him in Paradise. "Assist mewith yourself for this with much prostration". (i.e. withSALAT which is a righteous deed)

(Related by Muslim)

It is permissible to entreat (Allah) by our love and Allah '5

love Jor the Messenger and the good deeds. As in the caseof the story of the Companions oj the Cave, who by theirrighteous deeds, entreated Allah and Allah granted them

relief·ll. The forbidden entreaty is the supplication to those who

- 21 -

Page 23: English 046

are dead and asking them to provide for one's needs as it isbeing done today. Such acts constitute the Greater Shirkbecause of the words of the Almighty "Nor call on any otherthan Allah, such will neither profit thee nor hurt thee; if thoudost, behold.' thou shalt certainly be ofthose who do wrong"(Qur'an 10:106)

lll. To entreat Allah by the rank of the Messenger(MPBUH) such as the saying: "Oh Lord, by the rank ,ofMuhammad, heal me" constitutes BID'A (INNOVATION)because the companions of the Prophet never did it. Andbecause the Caliph Umar, in his supplication, entreated byAbbass while Abbass was alive and never entreated the Messenger ofAllah after the Messenger's death. Such entreaty maylead to Shirk, that is when one believes that Allah needs ahuman intermediary like a prince or governor. For one hasthen likened the Creator to a created being.

* For more details and evidences on this issue, please referto a book entitled "AL-TAWASSUL WA-AHKAAMUHUWA-ANWAA ·UHU·'ntermediation: Regulations & Typeaby Sheikh Al-Albaniy.

Q: 2 DOES A PRAYER REQUIRE A HUMAN INTERMEDIARY?
