Expression Sessions – How to Capture Unforgettable Moments of Your Child

From walking for the first time to growing their first tooth, there are many memorable firsts

during your child’s first few years, and it would be a shame not to capture those moments. It’s

those everyday little things that preserve your child’s finest memories, and it is those candid

moments that will allow you to step back years from now and relish all those adorable, precious

memories.

Learn how you can capture your kid’s unforgettable moments with these tips.

1. Skip the zoom.

If you are using your smart phone, get vivid photos by moving closer instead of zooming in on

your little one. Also, keep your elbows close to your body to avoid shaky and blurry pics.

2. Give them something to play with.

Children are known for their impatience and short temper. If you are trying to take a couple of

your child’s photos, make sure you have something to distract them by. Let them play with their

favorite stuff toy or let them crawl around.

3. Always have your camera on standby.

You won’t know when your child is going to roll over, crawl, or walk for the first time, so keep a

camera close to you at all times. If you have one, be sure to use your video camera for moments

like these. Going mobile are best captured and re-lived in motion. On the contrary, if you happen

to miss your precious one’s actual first smile or first steps, don’t feel bad! Just be ready for it the

next time it happens.

4. Find the best light.

Light plays a vital part in capturing that perfect moment. Hang out in the best lit area of your

home or stay outside (on your porch or at the backyard) while you wait for your child to do his or

her thing.

5. Don’t push them to do things they don’t like.

Children, particularly babies, do stuff on their own schedule, so try to be patient and do not push

them to perform actions just so you can take a snapshot of it. Pushing them to do things when

they are not ready will only leave both of you in a bad mood.

6. Prepare for events, holidays, and vacations.

Most unforgettable moments happen during vacations and events. What’s good about this is that

you can prepare for these occasions. If your going out of town and not sure what shots to take,

search online and take inspiration from other photos.

7. Put your camera in continuous shooting mode.

It’s easy to miss moments and little details. To make sure you don’t, take a series of photos by

putting your camera into continuous shooting mode. You may also want to take lots of shots in

multiple angles as different angles capture varied details and intensity. Remember: leave no

detail of any moment unphotographed.
