HEAD COACH CALEB PORTERHead coach Caleb Porter enters his fourth season with the club in 2016 aftersigning a long-term contract extension on Jan. 27, 2016. Since joining the Timbers in 2013, Porter has compiled one of the league’s top winning percentages among active MLS coaches with a record of 47-31-44 (.566), leading the Timbers to their first MLS Cup title in 2015, two Western Conference Championship appearances and double-digit wins in each of his first three seasons.

Over Porter’s first four seasons, the Timbers have lost the fewest games (31) of any MLS team, and have compiled regular-season point totals of 57 (2013), 49 (2014) and 53 (2015). Ad-ditionally, since 2013, Portland’s combined point total (185) ranks tied as the sixth-most in MLS, behind only the New York Red Bulls (196), FC Dallas (195), LA Galaxy (194), Sounders FC (187), and Sporting KC (186). Additionally, Portland’s 38 shutouts ranks tied as second-most in the league, while their 17 road wins ranks tied as the third-most in MLS during that span.

The 2013 MLS Coach of the Year, Porter coached in his 100th game as an MLS coach against Real SaltLake on Oct. 14, 2015, posting a record of 39-25-36 in those games, which tied San Jose Earthquakeshead coach Dominic Kinnear for the fewest losses (25) in MLS history in a coach’s first 100 careergames. In addition, his .570 winning percentage during that span ranks fourth among active coachesthrough their first 100 games, behind the LA Galaxy’s Bruce Arena (62-37-1, .625), Seattle’s Sigi Schmid(52-33-15, .595) and Kinnear (40-25-35, .575). Ending the 2015 campaign with a nine-game unbeatenrun across all competitions, the Timbers lifted their first MLS Cup trophy with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC on Dec. 6, 2015. Portland finished the regular season with an MLS-club-record 15 wins, whilealso tying for the league lead in shutouts (13). On the road, the Timbers finished the 2015 season tiedfor the most road wins (7) in the league.

On Aug. 6, 2014, Porter helped guide the MLS All-Stars to a 2-1 win over Ger-man power Bayern Munich in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Providence Park in Portland.

During Porter’s first season with Portland in 2013, the Timbers assembled one of the biggest turnaroundseasons in MLS history, finishing the regular season atop the Western Conference table. In comparisonto 2012 totals, the Timbers assembled a 23-point improvement in points and an MLS-record, 43-goalimprovement in goal differential. Portland’s five losses during the 2013 regular season tied for the few-est in MLS history in a 34-game season and the Timbers led the league with 15 shutouts.
