Wow, summer is almost over! It sure has been a blessing to be with the kids and take them on a family vacation. We drove to Washington, D.C. and did the tour; read our story in the Travel section! My kids go back to school starting the 17th of August and shopping for supplies will start soon! All the stores are filled with school supplies now, but soon will be wiped out, as we've found happens with last minute shopping. Have you already completed your school supplies list? Enjoy the last month of summer!

The Children's Fashion Blog Outfit and Kids' StyleThis year Fiammetta's birthday was a bit more special. We went to Disneyland Paris and I don't think I need to say more. Disneyland really is the dream of every child, and why not? Isn't it everyone's dream? There are games, rides, and characters suitable for all ages. And with the invention of the fast pass, the attractions are really more fun.

Fiammetta spent four days in awe and full of emotions, so many that it was hard to remember them all. She adored the fabulous castle, her beloved princesses, the iconic Elsa and Anna;

she hugged her favorite characters, and she was literally unleashed in Adventureland between tree houses, the pirates of the Caribbean, and rides to enjoy it all!

And always with her there were her Balducci. These pink ones with little eyes, to be exact, that she chose from the website of Balducci among the many proposals that you can now also find on SALE. They are shoes really for princesses, because pink, because feminine, because super comfortable, and suitable for every look. Disneyland with her Balducci appeared even more spectacular, funny and memorable. Balducci shoes gave her a “timeless” touch that is well suited to Disneyland.

In my book I tell a story about the day I actually missed a networking meeting because I didn’t have anything to wear.

Yup, the style chick had nothing to wear. Really!?!

This happened within the first month of starting my business and it formed one of the best lessons I’ve ever learned.

,

A few weeks ago I dropped my daughter off at pre-school and struck up a conversation with a fellow parent on my way out. Five minutes later I had a new client.

This happened for one reason…I was wearing a fabulous dress!

The right clothing can create opportunities everywhere you go. And that has serious power! How cool is it to simply walk into a room (or school in my case) and walk out with a new client!

Tote & Slice Loaf SandwichThis take-along sandwich is perfect for picnics, road trips, or tailgate parties. It can also be served for casual entertaining at home. It would be excellent paired with your favorite soup, as well.

Directions1. Place tomatoes in a small bowl. Add enough boiling water to cover and let stand for 10 minutes. Drain tomatoes and place in a food processor; cover and process until finely chopped. Or finely chop tomatoes by hand.2. Split loaf in half horizontally. Remove some soft bread from the bottom half of the loaf, leaving a 1/2-inch-thick shell.3. Spread cream cheese on cut sides of both bread halves. Spread top half with dried tomatoes and bottom half with pesto. On bottom half layer provolone cheese, salami, banana peppers, onion, and loaf top, spread side down.Tip: To pack for transporting, tightly wrap loaf in plastic. Q: How do you spend your summer?

A: Summer. I love summer. This is the 5th consecutive summer I have spent in Indiana (I was born & raised in Indiana). It is easy for me to know where I was in my life based on where and how I spent my summer...

2009 - The summer after my near fatal brain sub-arachnoid hemorrhage. Embraced life, my kids and self-discovery. We rented a motorcoach and traveled all over the US with the kids, visiting friends, working our MonaVie business - it was an amazing summer of fun!

2010 - Began writing my book. Decided to spend the summer in Indiana with my kids. Wanted my kids to spend time with my grandmother and to experience the lazy, hazy, crazy days of an Indiana summer. The quiet, long days were the perfect environment for writing! LOVED it!

2011 - Book tour!! Alex 9, Emma 7 (my support team), and I took off on a road trip to promote my book. We had a blast speaking at MonaVie events and Paul Mitchell Schools all along the East Coast from Florida, up to New York, to Michigan, and Chicago. We enjoyed visiting friends along the way, seeing Washington DC, Hershey Park, and more. Awesome!

2012 - This was a very challenging summer... Ed (my now ex-husband) and I made the decision that I would take the kids to Indiana (my grandmother's health was failing) and spend the summer to explore our options - stay in an unhappy marriage or figure out how to make things better - or divorce...

2013 - After a long year of prayer, counseling, and challenges, Ed & I decided to separate. While I was in Indiana for the summer with the kids, he moved out of the house. We decided that though we are not good at being a married couple, we are awesome parents. We developed a plan that would be best for our kids... Filed for divorce and worked on a family plan...

2014 - Divorce final. My first summer as a single woman and mom. This summer only Emma could travel with me. The boys all had school, sports, camps, etc. I really needed this time in Indiana to make lots of big decisions about life, business, money, the future, and, yes, even think about dating... The weather was perfect, I spent time with friends and met some great people. Life is good - I've never felt happier...

2015 - Here we are... Many, many changes. Taking a break this summer from blogging and posting. Emma & I in Indiana again. Helping a friend with her ministry. Exploring a relationship with a man I adore. Looking into several business opportunities. Wow - life is really, really good : ) Will update when summer is over...Enjoy yours too!

Earthwise Pet Supply Store of the Month review by Kathryn Goerig-Eastlake

Recently, one of my cats needed a change in diet. I visited the Earthwise Pet Store in Naples, FL. Tricia Berger, co-owner, was more than happy to help me assess what type of food would be most helpful for my Pica.

I was very impressed with her knowledge and expertise. I asked her how she knew so much about pets’ nutritional needs, and she shared with me that she had attended many hours of schooling which focused on pets and their diet needs. Her suggestions proved helpful to my kitty’s issues. Needless to say, Earthwise

Pet Supply is now my go to place to purchase all of my pet’s dietary needs.

One of the wonderful things that this store does is ask its patrons to donate a can, or bag, or treats for those who are struggling to pay for their pet’s food. The donation receiver could be a family or an elderly person. I think it is a wonderful idea, I support this local effort. You can go to the Earthwise Pet Supply FaceBook page: (EarthWise Pet Supply Valrico), and see the heart-warming pictures of some of the owners who receive this pet food assistance. https://www.facebook.com/EarthWisePetNaples

One of the store’s patrons was quoted as follows: “My daughter and I just went up to Earthwise Pet to check out the self-wash for our Beagle. It's awesome. Buster got a fabulous bath and smells much better! They have everything you need, including free treats, to keep him happy during the bath, aprons to keep the humans dry, a blower dryer, towels, great smelling shampoo and conditioner, and a friendly washing area. The best part....they clean up the mess!! Love it! You have my business!”

The store has qualified groomers on staff, but they also permit owners to wash their favorite furry person in their do-it-yourself pet cleaning area. That is a great feature, isn’t it?

If you live in the Naples, Florida area, this store can be found in the Pine Ridge Crossings Plaza. I hope you visit them soon.

My name is Buddy. I am entered to win a "Love Your Laptime" are you?

Go to: www.myfavoritefurr.com to enter your pet in the give-a-way contest.Good Luck, but, I'm sure I will win.

My son, Nathan, has flat feet and we have been so pleased with his progress at Van Wagner's Chiropractor's office. Recently we bought a stability disk to help strengthen his muscles in his feet and ankles. Jared, the chiropractor, sent us this Progressive Stabilization Ankle workout that helps to improve the support that he needs. I've also been exercising more and wanted to share a few reasons to make exercise a priority

by Nicole Flothe

Make Exercise a Priority

Progressive Stabilization Ankle

Stage 1: Static Development of the base of support

Maintain your balance on progressively unstable surfaces. You may time yourself to see how long you can hold your balance.

With the stability disc, begin with less inflation. As you add air, the disc becomes less stable. Two discs can be used on both feet to add stability, then move to a single leg stance on one foot.

You may close your eyes to remove visual stimulus.

Be sure to exercise both ankles.

Stage 2: Dynamic Progress the center of gravity

Add arm and leg movements while balancing on a progressively unstable surface.

Get creative! You may add arm weight, or medicine ball. Move the upper body, as well as the free leg in continually challenging patterns. Have someone toss a ball to you while balancing. Have it thrown to either side, so you are challenged reaching to catch.

Once again you may close your eyes to remove visual stimulus. Just not while someone is throwing objects at you.

Stage 3: Functional movement Perform functional movements while on the progressively unstable base.

Squat, lunge, side lunge. Once again get creative to perform functional movements on the progressively unstable surface.

Be sure to exercise both ankles.

Exercise shouldn't feel like a chore or something that has to be checked off your to-do list. It should be a priority and an activity that fits into your daily routine, just like brushing your teeth or making your bed. However, kick-starting your workout regimen can be a challenge because there will always be some excuse or activity that gets in the way of taking care of yourself. - Alana Brager on Active.com

* Your health is what will allow you to work into old age, if you desire. And make it so you can continue doing all the fun things you love to do.

*If you start working out regularly, it will become a routine and you will create a healthy habit! Treat your workouts like an appointment that you can't cancel. - 12minuteathlete.com

*What you consume in calories will be burned with workouts and your metabolism will increase allowing you to get in better shape.

To learn more about Austin and his journey to recovery visit Facebook.com/austinervinhealing. He continues to progress with his nursing care, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and schooling. We all thank you for your prayers, support, and belief in his recovery.

Austin had a great day with family and friends. They took the Coastal Classic Train ride from Anchorage to Seward, round-trip. It’s the local favorite. They saw beautiful glaciers visible from the train and lots of wildlife. Austin had a blast! They got to sit in the Goldstar, which is the upper level car with glass-domed ceilings and the outdoor viewing platform. It was really nice for Austin to be able to see all the views. When they got to Seward they walked around town to all the cool little gift shops. They went out to lunch, had ice cream, visited the kids' park, and then had a great time at the Alaska Sea Life Center.

Thank You so much, Bailee DePew. They all had the perfect adventure. "It was the best day ever," as Austin always says. They also want to say thank you to Animal, the Best Train Conductor EVER!!

What did your family do for the 4th of July? Many people stay home, visit friends and relatives for barbeques and picnics, or watch parades and fireworks. Others celebrate by going camping, to the beach, or amusement parks.

If you’re lucky, you can enjoy a 4th of July family trip. Family trips strengthen your family’s bonds in many ways:

k Family trips bring families closer together. Being away from usual routines and distractions helps families focus on each other through shared activities, encouraging communication and cooperation with one another.

k As kids need plenty of activities to keep them occupied, family trips keep you all busy and intrested. Your whole family will experience doing new things together and going places you haven’t been before.

k Travel broadens your family’s minds---it shows people in other places can have different customs and beliefs. It also can show how much people have in common.

k Seeing unfamiliar scenery also gives families an increased perspective. Going from small towns to big cities creates quite an impression and leaving your home near the mountains or ocean to visit inland prairie areas is a big change.

k On a larger scale, visiting different countries and locations helps families learn about other cultures, ways of dress, and history.

k Finally, traveling with your family creates lasting memories.

Two groups of my family went on memorable 4th of July trips this year. Our son and daughter-in-law’s family went to Washington, DC; while our niece and nephew’s family joined his sister and their family and the grandparents on a trip to Seabrook, Washington.

4th of July is a special time of year to visit Washington, DC! Our son and his family spent three days in Washington, DC over the 4th. Thousands of people gather on the National Mall to take part in the festivities, including A Capitol 4th with entertainment and fireworks. Most people would love to visit the White House, but visits can only be arranged through your legislator months in advance, so plan accordingly. There are many other things to do and see while you’re in DC. The Smithsonian Museums such as Air & Space, Natural History, American History, the National Zoo; and the National Gallery of Art, National Archives, and Library of Congress are free to the public. Memorials are also open and free, including The Lincoln, Jefferson, Viet Nam, and WWII Memorials. There’s a charge for tours of Mt. Vernon, George Washington’s home and estate; and Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home; but it’s well worth the money to see where two of our most famous founding father’s lived. Visit Washington.org for further information to plan your trip.

It's always a thrill to see the White House!

Seabrook, Washington 4th of July

Our niece and her extended, multi-generational family went to Seabrook, Washington for the 4th of July. Seabrook is a relatively new town off Pacific Beach in Grays Harbor County, just 2.5 hours from Seattle. There are only 280 privately owned homes in the well planned community, of which half are rentals. The appeal of Seabrook is that it’s a laid back, walkable town---everything in town is no more than a five minute walk away. And it’s minutes from Pacific Beach. Amenities include bike rentals, a pottery painting studio, an indoor community swimming pool, community park with a fire pit, individual fire pits is neighborhoods, shops, and more. Being such a small community, Seabrook has an outstanding, small town 4th of July celebration each year. For more information on this amazing vacation town, see: seabrookwa.com.

Thanks to the Eenhuis family for sharing their trip photos.

July Appsby Nicole Flothe

July Apps: When we went this summer to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the kids and I downloaded this fun Skin & Bones app. We walked through a section that had bones of animals and you put your phone over them and it showed you what the animal would look like with skin. Very cool! Then, to keep everyone entertained on our road trip, a few apps we enjoyed were Colorfy, Jenga, Paint My Wall, and Makeup 2. The boys want to get in shape this summer and so they've started a program called Body Beast and I downloaded the app for them. To keep up with my social media, I found the new Pagemodo app to be useful. Have you heard of Periscope? It's a new live stream platform that I just started using. Large brands show behind-the-scenes videos and offer great business tips, etc. I saw unique usernames with bubbles, so I was able to find this neat Bubble Text app. Hope you're having a great summer!
