HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR
HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR is a 1959 film directed by French film director Alain Resnais, with a screenplay by the incomparable Marguerite Duras. Emmanuelle
Riva and Eiji Okada are the stars in this impossible love story which is the
documentation of an intensely personal conversation about memory and
forgetfulness between a French actress filming an anti-war film in Hiroshima
and a Japanese architect. The film was a major catalyst for the Nouvelle
Vague. Recognitions include an Oscar nomination for screenwriter Marguerite
Duras, the Fipresci International Critics' Prize at the 1959 Cannes Film
Festival, the Grand Prix of the Belgian Film Critics Association in 1960. It
was recently shown as part of the Cannes Classics section of the 2013 Cannes
Film Festival.
