• We always try to match student’s particular interest with an appropriate local NGO.
• Most students in the Rio program have two, even three placements, so they also have a chance to work in the communities in media production.

Types of work students will be doing:
Each year the Rio course is slightly different because students bring different skills and interests.
Major projects that involved small teams of students included:
youth media production in favela communities,
web development and research/writing for various human rights web portals,
media production for community television and radio, and documentary film production.

Skills learned/applied?
Focus on media movements: Citizen journalism, digital inclusion, community radio and television, visual inclusion projects, new media and human rights web development, and youth media production.
Media skills:produce media, help youth make media, evaluate media projects, and report on media developments.

Language requirements?Seriously studying Portuguese is a must requirement. Student should be conversational in Portuguese by next summer or at least ready to become conversational during the course.

Student living situation
Students have a choice of staying at a wonderful and affordable hotel or finding a furnished apartment. In 2010, the students started at the hotel and quickly found apartments, which they shared.
