UCO WELLNESS CENTER
FIRST FLOOR PLAN
SECOND FLOOR PLAN

Designed: Spring 2016
Objective: The purpose of the project is to redesign an
existing facility using information gathered from as-
built plans, site visits, and client interviews.
Concept: The University of Central Oklahoma Wellness
Center is designed for students, faculty, staff, and
community members. The facility promotes the health
and wellbeing of the UCO population. The Wellness
Center also serves as a recreational environment for
the students and faculty to alleviate stress and live a
balanced lifestyle.
Solution: To address the main problems of the
existing space, an addition was added onto the north
side of the building. The new addition allowed for a
private gym for faculty and staff to have a place to
workout away from the students. The additional
square footage also permitted more appropriate
zoning that increased the efficiency of the flow
throughout the building. Material selections provided
an atmosphere that promotes the university and team
pride. Keeping budget and structural needs in mind,
the design offers an attainable solution for future
redesign projects.

Designed: Spring 2016 presented as an Honors Thesis
Objective: The purpose of this project is to create an inclusive learning environment for an
elementary school classroom using evidence based design. Extensive research, which
included journal articles, books, school visits, and teacher interviews, was used to develop
the most effective design. The classroom was to be designed to support students on the
Autism Disorder Spectrum in an inclusive classroom environment, while also fulfilling the
needs of the general education students and the educator.
Solution: With consideration of the problems brought up by the teachers interviewed and
the challenges that students on the Autism Disorder Spectrum face, the ideal learning
environment is shown using furniture plans, rendered perspectives, and 3-Dimensional
modeling. Proper zoning ensures that each user has the best possible environment in
which to thrive. A variety of materials and furniture, adjustable lighting, and well defined
zones add accommodations that specifically help the students on the Autism Disorder
Spectrum.

Designed: Fall 2015 for the IDEC Student Competition and presented at Oklahoma State University
Research Week
Objective: The purpose of this design is to meet program requirements, be accessible, aesthetically
pleasing and pursue sustainable solutions. Shared Spaces is a collaborative educational environment
where current and future interior designers - high school students, college students, educators and
professionals - come together to create a vertical learning environment that reaches out horizontally
across the community to find solutions for local design challenges.
Solution: The design focuses on connecting students to the community while provoking social change.
The furniture layout promotes social learning and collaboration within the vertical studio. The floor plan
accommodates large and diverse classes, while the material selection develops a sense of identity for the
students, educators, professionals, and community members. Additional selections encourage curiosity
and increase the feeling of value among participants.

PACE
Designed: Fall 2015 with Macy Ramsey and Sally Braine
Objective: The purpose of the project is to design a section of an adult day care facility in Stillwater,
Oklahoma. The focus on the final design was proper construction documentation as well as a renovation
of an existing building. The PACE program is meant to serve as a place for older adults to go to remain
involved in the community, receive care and assistance, but be able to return to their homes at night.

Concept: This PACE facility will be
designed for future generations
while preserving the historic
elements of the building and town
while keeping the people of the
Stillwater community in mind. The
space shall serve as a place for
participants to go to receive care,
participate in activities, and enjoy
their time while being involved in
the community. The PACE Center
will also serve as a stimulating
environment to aid in cognitive
development or memory aid while
meeting the needs of the staff,
participants, family members, and
visitors.
Solution: This PACE facility was
designed with past, current, and
future generations in mind. The
first floor and mezzanine are
planned to provide optimal
mobility to the participants and
staff members for day-to-day
tasks or any additional activities.
Materials and furniture were
selected to provide maximum
comfort, visibility, acoustic
properties, and flexibility for all
users.

BLANK CANVAS
GALLERY PERSPECTIVE
21
Designed: Spring 2014 with Macy Ramsey
Objective: The purpose of the project is to
design a retail space for the owner of a
new art supply store. Blank Canvas focuses
primarily on painting so the design needs
to be whimsical yet sophisticated to inspire
the skillful customers. The client is a female
in her early thirties who started Blank
Canvas to bring more culture and life to
Denton, Texas. She is outgoing and vibrant,
and wants her business to reflect her
personality and love for painting.
Solution: Because the space for Blank
Canvas needed to serve as both a retail
space, a gallery, and an event space, the
key concept was flexibility. All of the
furniture is movable and can be
rearranged to fit the specific needs for
each unique event. The white walls and
neutral floors provide a backdrop to best
feature the work of local artists.

Designed: Fall 2014 winner of the Design
Connect 2015 Furniture Design Competition
Objective: The purpose of the project is to
design a conference table for a manufacturer
to produce and sell along with their existing
merchandise.
Concept: The concept behind the Treble
modular conference table is flexibility and
functionality.
Solution: Treble is designed with public schools
in mind. The design is meant to
accommodate every possible user that would
come through a school. The adjustable legs
are specified to be able to range in size
according to the average measurements of a
kindergarten student and a fully grown adult.
The triangular shape of each module allows
for countless arrangement options.
