JAPAN 14th January – 28th January, 2020

LAND-ONLY ITINERARY

Tuesday 14th January

Travel to Kansai Airport, OSAKA. Transfer to Hotel via Limousine Bus.

Check into hotel and settle in. Evening at your own leisure.

Wednesday 15th January – Breakfast (B), Dinner (D) included

This morning we will be doing a private tour to Nara Deer Park. Here you will can explore Nandaimon Gate of Tōdaiji & Todaiji Museum, Kasuga Shrine and experience feeding the famous bowing deer. From here we will travel to Osaka Castle and visit this grand building and find out more of the history of the area. Lastly we visit the Umeda Sky Building and the Floating Garden Observatory where you can overlook Osaka and marvel at modern architecture.

Tonight is our Welcome Dinner at the hotel with fun activities and lots of chatter!

Friday 17th January– (B), (D)

We head to Hiroshima today by train and will check into the Hiroshima Sheraton Hotel, which is located at Hiroshima train station. The afternoon is at your leisure and you may like to venture out to the shopping mall or spend the afternoon relaxing. Or you can join Hitomi and Michelle when they visit the stunning Shukkeien Japanese Gardens.

Group Dinner at hotel Saturday 18th January – (B), (D)

We meet in the lobby early and spend the morning with our private guide visiting the Peace memorial Park, Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Museum, Children’s Monument and Orizuru tower. You can experience the art of origami folding and make a symbolic crane to release from the tower. Afterwards we visit the Okonomimura building housing many eateries specialising in Hiroshima's famous token dish: Okonomiyaki (Japanese Savoury Pancakes). Here you will have a late lunch at your leisure. From here you can wander the Hondori Shopping precinct and even visit a fabric store, if you have time!

Sunday 19th January – (B), (D)

This morning we will check out early and ride the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto. We arrive early at the Hotel Granvia where we will leave our bags and catch the subway to visit Nishiki Markets & Teramachi Kyogoku Shopping Arcade. Here you will find shopping (fabric), or you can visit the Tailor House, or even the Samurai Museum. From there we can head to Gion in the Higashiyama District where you can walk the quaint streets of Kyoto smelling culinary delights throughout this foodie mecca.

Monday 20th January – (B)

Today we will be picked up at the hotel and taken on a day tour of Kyoto

with an English speaking guide. We will visit four major destinations

Fushimi Inari Shrine, Golden Pavillion, Sanjusangendo, Kiyomizu Temple.

You will be able to get the lay of the land as we explore Japan’s first

Capital City!

Tuesday 21st January – (B)

It’s all about the local Toji Flea Market today. This market happens on

this day every month. You can find wonderful handmade treasures,

kimonos, pottery and more at this market! Enjoy a relaxing free

afternoon or travel to the Arashiyama Bamboo Gorve and Monkey

Sanctuary (weather permitting) to explore nature at its best.

Thursday 16th January – (B), Lunch (L) included (D) included

Today we head for Tokushima for our workshop in Indigo and Shibori dyeing with Kata-zome technique. The place we are going to is unique and is a world class indigo dyeing house. An exciting day which includes lunch and also some time after the workshop for shopping. We will also visit a local museum where we will learn the regions history with indigo dyeing. From here we head to our hotel JR Clement Takamatsu. After we check in we will meet in the lobby and make way to our group dinner.

Wednesday 22nd January – (B), (D)

Time to get creative! Today we visit the Nishijin Textile Centre where you will experience a kimono show, try on a kimono and have your photo taken, see how silk is extracted from silk worms and you will get to weave your very own placemat using a traditional weaving loom!

After lunch (at your leisure) we will make our way to Marumasu-Nishimuraya centre where you will spend the afternoon learning the ultimate art of kimono dyeing, Kyo-yuzen. You will make a small project while learning how to paint with dye onto fabric. A fabulous experience that you will remember forever.

After our cultural stay in Kyoto it is now time to say goodbye as we board the Shinkansen again and head for Tokyo. We are staying at the Hyatt Regency in the busy and happening Shinjuku hub. Lunch is at your leisure and you will have the afternoon to yourself. You might like to visit Yuzawaya to get a fabric fix (located the

Takashimaya department store at Shinjuku Station New South Exit, 5-24-2) Or Okadaya, which is a multi-level fabric store (located 3-23-17 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, and it’s right behind Shinjuku station, just north of the Lumine Est northern entrance. The entrance to the fabric store is hidden in an alley)

Friday 24th January - (B), (D)

Today we are our and about exploring Tokyo by train and subway and on the way we are mentally making room for more fabric in our stash because we are heading to Nippori Textile Town! It might be a good location to purchase that second bag as well! After Nippori we will head to Nakimese Street, Asakusa and Senso-ji Temple, the oldest in Tokyo where we can explore the delights of this bustling precinct.

Sunday 26th January – (B)

It will be an iconic visit to Mt Fuji today. We will be taken by bus to Five Lakes area where we will be able to take a thousand awesome photos of this Japanese land mark. Enjoy wandering through small village Oshino Hakkai with scenic views of Mt Fuji. You will also visit Itchiku Kubota Museum and see the most stunning Kimono art. And if you are up for it you can walk up the steps to the Chureito Pagoda to take that Best-of-the-Best photo of Mt Fuji!

Saturday 25th January – (B)

Happy Chinese New Year! It’s a big day in Tokyo but we will miss the street celebrations because today we are headed for the Tokyo Great International Quilt Festival! You will spend the day looking at quilts and vendor booths soaking up the atmosphere. Bring lots of cash today as a lot of vendors do not accept cards.

Monday 27th January – (B)

Free Day to explore Tokyo. You may like to visit he famous Shibuyu Crossing and shopping precinct, or go back to the Quilt Festival at the Tokyo Dome or get more shopping in at Harajuku Takeshita St. We may even look for Sumo Wrestling tickets to watch the Great Tournament which is only on in Tokyo at this time of year! Or if you haven’t quite filled you second suitcase you could even re-visit Nippori Textile Town!

Lunch and Dinner at your leisure Tuesday 28th January – (B), (L)

This is our last day in Tokyo. You have a late check out time of 6pm today so you will be able to spend the morning slowly packing or out getting your last minute souvenirs. Today we say goodbye with our Farewell Lunch at the Skytree Tower overlooking Tokyo city.

After lunch we will go back to the hotel and freshen up before checking out and transferring to the Haneda airport via Limousine Bus.

Hitomi Fujita will be the co-host with Michelle on this tour. Her Japanese heritage will be a valuable asset as we travel throughout the country. Hitomi will be flying out of Sydney and Michelle will be flying out from Perth. They will supply their flight itineraries and you are welcome to book the same flights and they will help you get through airports in Australia and Japan. There will be 2 meetings held before travel where Michelle will guide you on travelling throughout Japan, what to pack, currency conversion, how to get there and so much more! Michelle is there every step of the way before and on the tour to ensure this tour experience is one you will never forget!
