2.2.2 New Install - Quick Install Method We highly recommend using the quick install if you simply want to get your site setup and looking like the demo version of Joomanager. What is the quick install? It’s a complete Joomla installation that includes all the modules, the Joomanager component and the template that is used on the Joomanger demo. If you have met all the above requirements and you want to take the quick install route then follow the following steps. If you already know how to install Joomla then just install the quick install just like a regular Joomla install, If you don't know how to install Joomla continue reading.

Login to your cpanel or your server admin panel. Locate the area where your databases are. Create a new database. Next create a new database user and assign it to this newly created database in the previous

step. You will then need to extract the quick install to either a folder on your server or the root directory

such as WWW. NOTE: if you already have a website in the root of your WWW folder, we suggest creating a new folder and extract the quick install there.

Page 3: Joomanager Manual v13

Next, navigate to where you extracted the quick install via your web browser. The quick install splash screen should appear, continue through until you reach the below

screenshot:

At the above screen be sure to enter localhost as shown, continue to fill in the following text fields with your newly created database and username information.

Lastly be sure to leave the prefix "jos_" intact and click next. Follow through the rest of the site shaper setup and click the install sample data at the last screen.

and you should be all set (be sure to rename/remove the installation directory after finishing the install).

Page 6: Joomanager Manual v13

2. Next head on over to the install area you will see the below screen:

3. On this screen choose which method you would like to go with, we recommend using the upload and install option, this is the most straight forward option. If you do experience any errors during the upload or install be sure to read the “Installation FAQ” area of this manual. Be sure you are logged in as a super administrator or will not be able to see this screen or install Joomanager.

4. Configuring Joomanager 4.1.1 Setting up Categories 1. Once you get Joomanager installed one of the first things you’ll need to do is get some categories setup. To do this head on over to the categories area of Joomanager and click the “new” category button as seen below:

Page 7: Joomanager Manual v13

2. After you click the Joomanager component link from the “components” menu, click “Show Categories” and you should see the below screenshot:

3. After you click the new category button you’ll see the following screen where you will need to enter a category name, an image if you’d like and the category description:

Page 8: Joomanager Manual v13

4.2.1 Setting up the custom fields 1. After creating a category or two the next step is to create some custom fields so that we then can create some actual items. What you’ll need to do is navigate to the custom field area of Joomanager which can be seen below and click the “new” button:

2. After you click the new button you’ll see the below screen where you can create some images and description fields or whatever else you desire. This area of the Joomanager component is what gives it the flexibility we describe. You can create any number or any type of custom field here and it will show under each item that you add. The custom fields also have the following options:

Searchable – You can set a price range, a text box or even a drop down depending on what you require

Required Published Show on list page Show on details page

3. This is also the place where you can define in what categories the custom fields show up in. This allows you to setup up your site with completely different items so for example you could list cars and all their attributes per item in one category and in another category you could have a business directory with attributes specific to a business listing.

Page 9: Joomanager Manual v13

NOTE: When adding the custom fields, they will not show in the search module unless you actually add them to an item. For example if you add 3 radio buttons as follows: 1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms and 3 bedrooms but you only set one of your items to one of these options then only this option will show in the search module. If you wanted all three to show you would need to set items to also contain 1 bedroom and the 2 bedrooms options.

Page 10: Joomanager Manual v13

4.3.1 Creating a new item 1. After you have created some categories and custom fields its time to create some items to publish on your site. To do this head on over to the show items area of Joomanager and click the “new” button as seen below. NOTE: as you can see below this is also where you define if a product is featured or not. The Joomanager featured module will also display any items you select as featured.

2. The google maps option will automatically pull the address from the item title unless you manually enter in an address in the “Google Map Address” in the text field seen below. If google can’t find the address an error message will be displayed above the preview/map.

4.4.1 The Joomanager Component Configuration

The last portion of the Joomanager component is the configuration of it. This area is where you will define what category templates are assigned to the category, item list and item detail pages. This page is quite self-explanatory as you can see from the below screenshot with yes/no options.

Page 12: Joomanager Manual v13

4.4.2 Navigation Style – Classic or Letter You can choose either the classic category listing style of navigation in the landing page of Joomanager or a directory style navigation more suitable for a directory layout of movies, resumes, software, etc. Just select which option you desire and apply the changes:

5. Configuring Joomanager Module(s) 5.1.1 Module Configuring 1. After you install the Joomanager modules head on over to the extension > module manager and you’ll see the below screen. Simply look through the modules (there might be several pages so look at the bottom for some pagination) and select the one you’d like to configure by clicking on its title.

Page 13: Joomanager Manual v13

2. Most of the Joomanager modules do have some sort of configuration options for example the below screenshot shows the different options available with the JM category tree module:

NOTE: As mentioned above under the “4.2.1 Setting up the custom fields”. When adding the custom fields, they will not show in the search module unless you actually add them to an item.

6. Reviews 6.1.1 Reviews 1. You can enable item reviews under the item config area. You can either display the comments and reviews on the item list and item details or on both pages. A user can only add reviews when they are logged in and if you set them to manual you will then have to approve each review.

Page 14: Joomanager Manual v13

2. If you set the comments to manual under each item you’ll have to enable them manually by clicking the X icon next to the username below who posted the comment. You can also edit the text and click the save icon if you need to make any changes to the comments.

Page 15: Joomanager Manual v13

7. Email Alerts 7.1.1 Email Alerts 1. Email alerts are for users who login to the site and have an account. They can setup to be alerted upon the addition of new items to the site. The below screenshot shows what fields you can allow the user to be alerted on (these fields are being pulled from the custom fields you setup).

On the frontend when a user is logged in and clicks the “My Alerts” button next to the “Add to the items” the following will be show where they can enter what they desire to be alerted on and how, price equal to, less than, etc:

8. RETS/MLS 8.1.1 RETS/MLS Integration 1. The RETS/MLS feature allows you to import MLS listings into Joomanager with MLS login information. If you are a realtor or have access to a realtors login information to MLS you would simply enter this information below in Joomanager, enable and Joomanager will import into each listing as an item. In your items area of Joomanager each RETS item will be marked. Once enabled your admin area will then show the agent classes and property classes which will be imported. Once imported you can edit fields, import pictures and more to each RETS item and category.

Page 16: Joomanager Manual v13

2. Once you enable the RETS in Joomanager and items are imported they will be marked with (RETS) as seen in the below screenshot. You can add custom fields to RETS items and use the ones in Joomanager that you’ve added already but you cannot edit fields that are pulled from RETS although you can unpublish the RETS only fields via the “show custom fields”

9. Template Editing 9.1.1 Template Editing As described in 4.4.1 Joomanager includes three areas where templates can be assigned to the component’s category, item list and item detail pages. The default release of Joomanager includes three different template layouts that you can assign to each of these pages. If you want to edit any of the templates they are located at the following URL of your site: /components/com_joomanager/templates

Page 17: Joomanager Manual v13

If you would like to create your own templates simply create an html file and a corresponding CSS file. Make sure both are the same name, for example, default.html and default.css. We do not provide support in editing or creating your own templates but if you have some basic HTML skills you should have no problem.

10. Troubleshooting and FAQ 10.1.1 The Installer tells me "ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package". What's wrong? Mostly this problem arises because some of your directories are set to read only and can’t be written to. Check if they're writable before you change them by going to help > system info > directory permissions. If they aren’t writable set the following folders to CHMOD 777 during installation. You can use ftp or JoomlaXplorer [http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomlaxplorer/] to change the permissions. When installation is complete set them back to their defaults or to 755:

 root/cache root/tmp root/administrator/components root/components root/templates root/modules

10.1.2 The Joomla! 1.5 installer fails to install Joomanager with the error message "There was an error uploading this file to the server.". What's the problem? The most common reason for this problem is that the File you have uploaded is too big. The File Size Upload Limit on your Server is set too low to allow larger files to be uploaded. By default PHP allows files up to 2 MB, but this limit needs to be set to 4 MB in order to upload the Joomanager Component Install File. If you have access to the php.ini, then change the directive upload_max_filesize to "4M"and reload the server configuration. If you are running PHP in CGI mode on Apache, you can place an .htaccess file in your Joomla! root directory and place the following code inside: php_value upload_max_filesize 4M (NOTE: Some hosting providers will not allow you to change the upload size, even via the htaccess file)

10.1.3 The Installer tells me "Another component is already using the directory com_joomanager" You will need to delete the directories /site_root/components/com_ joomanager and / site_root/administrator/components/com_ joomanager. If you can't delete the directories using ftp, try the file manager for Joomla!, eXtplorer [http:// extplorer.sourceforge.net], instead.

10.1.4 The captcha image isn’t showing for me on the contact form? This is related to your server. The GD library which is needed for the image generation is absent and not enabled/installed on your server. You will need to contact your host and let them know that you need the GD library running on your server.
