Starting Oct.1, Lee Health will launch LINK, our new, state-of-the-art software system for timekeeping, staffing and supply chain management. Much in the way Epic changed clinical practice; LINK will have a significant impact on Lee Health’s ability to provide the staff and materials needed to deliver the best possible care for our patients. As Lee Health continues to grow, updated systems are needed to manage our essential business and Human Resources workflows.
The name “LINK” is an acronym for the two business software systems we are installing to replace GEAC, One-Staff and the legacy timekeeping system: (Lee Health + Infor + Kronos = LINK).
In addition to standardizing and simplifying work processes, LINK includes state-of-the-art touch screen time clocks with easy-to-use functionality, creating a one-stop portal for employee self-service including timekeeping, scheduling and PTO, among other features.
LINK will launch on Oct. 1, the first day of Lee Health’s new fiscal year. This is a multiphase project over the next two years.

The 2017 Medical Staff Election will be held in August. Voting will be by electronic (email) ballots, via Survey Monkey. Active Medical Staff members are scheduled to receive voting instructions via e-mail by Friday, August 11th. The deadline to return the ballots will be Friday, August 25, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Only practitioners with ACTIVE staff status may vote.
The next two (2) pages list the Medical Staff Nominees for Medical Executive Committee Officers/Members, Department Chair and/or Section Chief by facility.

2017 HEART FAILURE GUIDELINE UPDATES
KEY POINTS:
1. Renin-Angiotensin System Inhibition: This strategy is recommended to reduce morbidity and mortality in all patients with HF and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and no contra-indications, in addition to optimal therapy that includes beta blockers and aldosterone antagonists in those without contraindications as well as device therapy (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator cardiac resynchronization therapy, or both) in those with an indication.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (Class I) or Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs, Class I) or Angiotensin receptor–neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) to replace ACE inhibitors or ARBs in
patients who have tolerated either agent (Class I, but with a lower level of evidence than ACE or ARB). ARNI should not be used within 36 hours of the last dose of an ACE inhibitor or in patients with angioedema (Class III [harm]).
2. Ivabradine: Consider using this drug to reduce HF hospitalizations for symptomatic HFrEF and resting heart rate ≥70 bpm in patients on optimal therapy, including a beta blocker at the
maximal tolerated dose (Class IIa).
3. Therapy for HF with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF): Therapy remains largely targeted at coexisting conditions, including hypertension, coronary disease, and atrial fibrillation. Aldosterone Receptor Antagonists in appropriately selected patients might reduce hospital-
ization risk (Class IIb [weak recommendation]). Routine nitrates or phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors are discouraged (Class III [no benefit]).
4. Hypertension: Recommended optimal levels (Class I) are <130/80 mm Hg for those at risk for HF (stage A) or systolic <130 mm Hg in patients with HFrEF or HFpEF.

CLINICAL COLLABORATION COUNCIL (CCC) ADVANCES UPDATED TELEMETRY GUIDELINES
The Clinical Collaboration Council (CCC) has approved new evidence-based guidelines for the use of telemetry across the health system. The guidelines were approved by the Physician Leadership Council (PLC) in its August meeting and are scheduled for consideration by the Facility Medical Executive Committees (FMECs) this month. If approved, the guidelines would go into effect at the end of September after staff/physician education is completed.
The new guidelines are intended to address the overutilization of cardiac monitoring and bring Lee Health in line with national standards. The goal is to reduce the use of telemetry on lower acuity patients, alleviating “alarm fatigue” while making our patients safer.
During a recent survey, Lee Health averaged 67% telemetry use across the health system with one campus experiencing 110,000 alarms over a 24-hour period. Alarm fatigue can and has contributed to serious safety events.
The new guidelines will limit which patients receive cardiac tracking and for how long. A copy of the guidelines can be obtained through the Medical Staff Office.
The Clinical Collaboration Council was launched earlier this year to oversee quality improvement projects at Lee Health. Contact Dr. Scott Nygaard or Dr. Marilyn Kole for more information about the CCC.

Emergency Dial Codes changed to 444
Lee Health is dedicated to safe, quality health care. When an emergency occurs, clear communication is important for quick response to protect patients and staff. One way to ensure the quickest response in an emergency is to standardize emergency dial codes. Effective May 1, 2016, the emergency dial code in all Lee Health hospitals has changed to: 444. The emergency code system notifies staff about an event that requires immediate action. The intent is to relay urgent information in a timely, understandable manner and elicit a prompt and proper response. Standardizing the dial code across the system provides clarity since employees often work in more than one facility, sometimes within the same day. All gold card emergency information listings will be updated to reflect the new 444 dial code, and you may notice reminders posted near employee time clocks and volunteer check-in stations. Team meetings and huddles are great opportunities to remind staff of this important change, and to review all emergency codes.
