This game is not only going to test your students’ knowledge about the story they have read but also their writing skills.

We have provided questions relating to three Dickens titles:

A Christmas Carol (Oxford Bookworms Level 3) A Tale of Two Cities (Oxford Bookworms Level 4) David Copperfield (Oxford Bookworms Level 5)

They can create their own questions and answers for the same book or a different one of your choosing.

See below the materials needed as well as the instructions and rules.

STUDENTS NEED: • (to make the game) card, glue, scissors, pencil, crayons, pen • (to play the game) dice, counters

• There are 5 questions in each category: Who is it?, How do you say?, Who does it? and Who says it?

• There are three questions card sets- one for each Dickens title: A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities and David Copperfield.

• On the blank card backs, students write a question related to the same title (with the answer upside-down at the bottom) or another appropriate title.

• Students can now stick both the board game sheet and the game cards sheet onto card and cut them out.

• Play the game in groups of 4–6 players.

1. For two to six players. 2. You need dice and a counter (a button or a coin) for each player. 3. Put all counters on GO. Shuffle and put all question cards of each type with the written side face

down in a pile in the correct place in the middle of the board. 4. Throw the dice to see who begins. The player with the highest throw starts. 5. Each player throws the dice to see how many squares to move. 6. When a player lands on a question square, another player takes the top card from that question

pile and reads the question aloud. (Used cards go to the bottom of the pile.) If the player on the question square can’t answer, they miss a turn.

7. When a player lands on a heart square, they say something they like about the book. If they can’t answer, they miss a turn.

8. The winner is the player in front when it is time to stop.
