What is Poetry?What is Poetry?

Poetry is a river, poem after poem moves along in the

exciting crests and falls of the the river waves. None is

timeless; each arrives in an historical context, almost

everything, in the end, passes.-Mary Oliver

What is Poetry? My Definition! What is Poetry? My Definition! Poetry is a way to express your

felling in a song. It’s a way to calm yourself down

and it is also a way to vent your anger, happiness,

and just your feelings. It is also a form of writing a story

but in a short version but it is also like writing a song without music.

The word acrostic is formed from the Greek word acros (outermost) and stichos (line of poetry).  The acrostic is a poem where the first letter of each line forms a word when you read them

looking downward.

Haiku

n COMPOSING A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE HAIKU POEMn The 300-year old Haiku Poem has its own distinct

discipline:- Each complete poem has only three lines, totalling 17 syllables.

- the first line must be five syllables- the second line must be seven syllables- the third line must be five syllables

When these rigid conditions are met, the result can be a very satisfying word picture .

n Birds take wing on high, gliding over angry wavesback to their safe nests.

My Free Verse #1

There once was a boy that loved to slurp soup

One day a man poisoned it.

So when he slurped his soup

he died

That will tech him for slurping his soup.

My Free Verse #2

There once was an old broken wallet

One day a lady used it to put all her money

because she was in a hurry, and all her money fell out.

Collected Free Verse #1So Nice

The last time we met I noticed

the bright red flowers in your hair,

Milk soft skin radiating through

heaven’s gate and I wanted to kiss

your tender hand.

Knees buckling from the sweet scent

of your perfume, our bodies locked like

falling birds, We kissed and ran as fast

as we could like two kittens playing with

a ball of yarn.

Landing on our feet, we walked along the

crimson cobblestone streets, At our favorite

sidewalk café we talked and shared this

wonderful moment.

We celebrated life with French bread and good

wine. It was nice to see your lovely smile remain,

on an empty glass of wine and a bite of bread.

Collected Free Verse #2Gabby's Baby Beagle

(A Tongue Twister)

Gabby bought a baby beagle

at the beagle baby store.

Gabby gave her beagle kibble,

but he begged for bagels more.

Gabby loved her baby beagle;

gladly Gabby gave him one,

but her beagle grabbed the bag and

gulped them down till there were none.

So she took her baby beagle

to the bagel baker's store,

where the beagle gobbled bagels,

bags of bagels by the score.

Gabby's beagle gorged on bagels,

bigger bagels than before,

till she'd gobbled every bagel

in the baker's bagel store.

Gulping bagels bulges baby

beagles' bellies really big.

Say goodbye to baby beagle;

Gabby's beagle's now a pig.
