a. Mr. Gurnam Saran:

Former Director BHEL & Sr. Management, Consultant Commonwealth (UK),President IEEMA

Mr. Gurnam Saran an Engineering Graduate of 1957 with Post Graduationstudies in Industrial Management in UK is a Fellow of Engineer & aChartered Engineer. Former Director BHEL & Sr. Management ConsultantCommonwealth (UK); President IEEMA and has to his credit deepinvolvement in developing better and richer processes of education at alllevels. This is evident from the fact that during early eighties while holdingthe position of Executive Director BHEL Haridwar plant, employing nearly14000 employees (with nearly 1.5 lakh population in the BHEL Township),Mr. Saran enabled establishment of a Degree College and setting up of theDPS as add-ons to the 19 School’s operated by BHEL in the town. Hisinvolvement at the same time in improving the training and educationalfacilities and standards for the employees of BHEL at all levels – executives,supervisors and workers, gave him great insights for making education moreeffective and development driven. Recognizing his talents and interest, theBHEL Board involved Mr. Saran in developing the ManagementDevelopment Institute of BHEL in New Delhi. His academic interest anddevelopmental nature caught the eyes of many an Industry associations andbodies like the NPC and ASCI and he became a well known speaker andvisiting faculty to Universities and Training set-ups not restricted to India butextended to other countries like Japan, Thailand, Nepal and Singapore. He hasto his credit publishing of more than 20 papers. Latter his interest took him tovisit Institutions like the Harvard Business School, the MIT, the ManchesterBusiness School and the International University of Japan on study missionsduring 1993-94 when he was invited to launch IILM and become the founderPresident. He was subsequently approached in 1994-95 to help in setting upof the management institute at the CSKM Educational Complex, by theirChairman & D.G. and Mr. Saran became the founder President since theestablishment of the Institute carrying the name EMPI.

b. Dr. P. C. Mittal

Dr. P. C. Mittal has been the Advisor to Minister for Medical Education(Chhattisgarh), Ex. nominated Member of Executive Council, Pt. RavishankarShukla University, Raipur, M.P (1999 onwards), and Retired as Dean MedicalCollege, Raipur.

c. Dr. M.V. Rao

Ph.D. (Technology Transfer to Developing Countries), IIT–Delhi.

Prof. Rao has more than 35 years of experience as a Marketing Executive doesin one of India’s largest Engineering Company (BHEL) operatinginternationally. Having handled exports world-wide, he brings enormouswealth of current knowledge in International Business. Continuing interest inacademics, he has been a visiting faculty to prominent institutions andcompleted his Ph.D while carrying on his work in Industry.

Prof. S.P. Verma has been formerly Professor & Director in the IndianInstitute of Public Administration (IIPA), Government of India. His othermajor academic assignment has been the important role he played in thesetting up the Department of Public Administration of India’s first OpenUniversity – Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Apart from his academic assignments Professor Verma has been on a numberof important government commissions, the last being the Railway ReformsCommission. He has represented India in the EROPA General Assembly inManila in 1987. He continues to be a Member, Governing Board of the IIPAand in on the Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Public Administration.He has been Chairman of the Northern Region Selection Commission forNational Talent Scholars.

g. Mr. Y. K. Gauba

A trained Industrial Engineer Mr. Gauba has more than 35 years of experiencewith both Public Sector Units & Private Sector where he was involved withtop management in improving Efficiency & Management Effectiveness. Heheld senior positions with leading MNCs like FAG Bearings and Temic. Hehas been the CEO, Operations of Daimler Benz subsidiary in China.

h. Mr. Pankaj Saran

A Graduate Honours in Psychology followed by specialized education andtraining in Japanese Management. Pankaj has been involved in consulting forIndustry and designing innovative educational systems. His interests incognitive psychology have led him to the study of Learning Organisationswherein he finds the basic unit to which strategic processes and JapaneseManagement practices can be reduced. He has consulted with some largecompanies for installing Japanese Management methods. His current research

He conceptualised creation of a platform, “We Think for India –WTI”. Motivated and involved the intellectuals to submit draft policy in papermanufacturing and facilitated scrutiny for final submission to the PrimeMinister for consideration in 2003 and more recently an innovation drive inorganisations which was commended by President of India.

He has conceptualized and installed EMPI’s Center for Innovation,Entrepreneurship & Intellectual Property (CIEPRO). CIEPRO is a uniqueEMPI inter-disciplinary initiative that attempts to bring together on commonplatform integrations at different levels - Integration of Public Policy,Economics, Technology, Psychology & Management. The movement received further fillip since the year 2006, with the joining of thetwo top organizations in their respective fields: The Indian Express Group fortheir philosophy of serious and positive journalism that impact both policy andpeople and The Boston Consulting Group; a globally renowned organization inconsulting management who also joined in as the Research Partner as Process

Validator to strengthen the Awards process. The Awards have subsequently beenre-christened as the EMPI-Indian Express Indian Innovation Awards.

Another milestone achieved in our second year was the release of the Inauguralissue of ‘Innovations-The EMPI Journal of Inter-Disciplinary Perspectives’, byHon’ble Dr. Kalam at the Awards Function. The journal, the first of its kind inIndia with a globally renowned Advisory and Editorial Board, will include as apart of the journal, innovation stories of the award winners in the form of casestudies and research papers.

So far more than 1000 organizations have registered for the Awards processleading to 21 organizations being awarded; 13 for the Gold Award and 8 for theSilver Award from a wide spectrum of organizations including Government,Corporates, NGOs etc.

However, pursing the vision of incorporating Research & Case basedlearning in our pedagogy, EMPI’s effort got a fillip when its researchproposal was accepted and awarded a major grant from EU in 1998 forconducting research alongwith Scuola di Amministrazione Aziendale (SAA),School of Management, University of Turin, Italy, Helsinki School ofEconomics & Business Administration (HSEBA), Finland.

Other parts of EMPI’s vision to maintain pedagogical parity with the bestinstitutes of the world has been achieved through building faculty to faculty

network relationship with other European, American & South Asian schoolswhereby these institutions have option to sought each other’s help forexchange visits of students and faculty without any obligation to conducteach other’s examination or award degrees. Mission Innovative India:

EMPI Group of Institutions instituted the Indian Innovation Awards in 2005,perhaps the first of its kind in the country, to recognize Innovative Organizationsin India, which have by their innovative actions impacted major changes. TheAwards were launched as part of a larger movement “Mission Innovative India bythe highly inspiring then President of India, Hon’ble Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The movement received further fillip since the year 2006, with the joining of thetwo top organizations in their respective fields: The Indian Express Group fortheir philosophy of serious and positive journalism that impact both policy andpeople and The Boston Consulting Group; a globally renowned organization inconsulting management who also joined in as the Research Partner as ProcessValidator to strengthen the Awards process. The Awards have subsequently beenre-christened as the EMPI-Indian Express Indian Innovation Awards.

Another milestone achieved in our second year was the release of the Inauguralissue of ‘Innovations-The EMPI Journal of Inter-Disciplinary Perspectives’, byHon’ble Dr. Kalam at the Awards Function. The journal, the first of its kind inIndia with a globally renowned Advisory and Editorial Board, will include as apart of the journal, innovation stories of the award winners in the form of casestudies and research papers.

Merit list is made on the basis of marks scored on various parameters andselection is made on the basis of overall merit.

With EMPI’s emphasis on assessment of overall personality carried out through itsday long Assessment Centre Exercise, relaxation in minimum criteria may beconsidered by the Admissions Committee where the overall personality assessmentis found outstanding on majority factors.

EMPI respects Government directive and considers all applications coming througheither of national level pre-qualifying tests like CAT / MAT / XAT / JMET / ATMA/ CET / JEE and conducts day long Personality Profiling Exercise includingPsychological Testing, Group Discussion and Personal Interview for leveling variousfactors of selection standard. Based on performance in all these tests, their Academicachievements and Work Experience cut-off for admission is determined.

We call 80 % and as interested students who have qualified through any of pre-qualifying test approved by the government.
