Dear Parishioners, Sometime around 750 BC, the sheepherder Amos was called to leave one flock in service of another. God sent him north into Israel to convict people for their sins against the Covenant – working on the Sabbath and cheating the poor out of their hard-earned money. Amos knows that the merchants in the Temple are fixing their scales to cheat the pilgrims coming to Jerusalem for the feast. These wealthy men became rich and made
themselves richer by taking advantage of the less fortunate. Never will I for-get a thing they have done, the prophet says, speaking for God. It is an announcement of God’s judgment on those who are deaf to the cry of the poor. They were in need of forgiveness but would only receive it if they hum-bled themselves to ask for it. In writing to Timothy, Saint Paul affirms God’s desire that we all ask for and receive his mercy, and then share it with one another. Paul thought this important especially for kings and all those in authority, that they might lead a quiet and tranquil life, one without anger or argument. It is God’s great desire that everyone be saved and … come to knowledge of the truth. Mercy and forgiveness are in the message of the parable of the steward that Jesus tells in today’s Gospel. The steward is quite creative in deal-ing with the loss of his job. The steward was not forgiven his debt, but he does forgive the debt of one who owes him a large sum of wheat. Jesus compliments the man for his ability to look beyond earthly wealth to store up for himself treasure in heaven. This appears to be Jesus’ way of getting our minds out of our pocketbook and into his holy book. The Lord desires that we all show such industry in our pursuit of eternal life. Experience tells us that wealth may leave us or be taken away, but God is a firm anchor. The dollar in our pocket is here today and gone tomor-row, but the Lord is always there for us, and all around us. The late Evangelist Billy Graham said the Lord gave us two hands – one to give, one to receive. We need both. Fold those two hands together and we can pray to God who is the source of every blessing. What Amos says is true – that God never forgets a thing we have done – so let us at least live a life worthy of remembering, a life full of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

Queridos feligreses, En algún momento alre-dedor del año 750 a. C., el pastor de ovejas Amós fue llamado a dejar un rebaño para servir a otro. Dios lo envió al norte, a Israel, para condenar a las personas por sus pe-
cados contra de la Alianza - trabajar en sábado y en-gañar a los pobres quitándoles el dinero que tanto les costaba ganar. Amós sabe que los mercaderes del Templo arreglan sus basculas para engañar a los peregrinos que vienen a Je-rusalén para la fiesta. Estos hombres acaudalados se hi-cieron aún más ricos aprovechándose de los menos afor-tunados. No olvidaré jamás ninguna de estas acciones, dice el profeta, hablando por Dios. Es un anuncio del juicio de Dios sobre los sordos al clamor de los pobres. Necesi-taban perdón, pero solo lo recibirían si se humillaban para pedirlo. Al escribirle a Timoteo, San Pablo afirma el deseo de Dios de que todos le pidamos y recibamos su misericordia, y luego la compartamos unos con otros. Pablo pensó que esto era importante, especialmente para los reyes y todos los que tenían autoridad, para que pudieran llevar una vida tranquila y en paz, sin odio ni divisiones. Jesús felicita al hombre por su capacidad de mirar más allá de la riqueza terrenal para acumular tesoros en el cielo. Esta parece ser la forma en que Jesús saca nuestras mentes de nuestro bolsillo y las lleva a su libro sagrado. El Señor desea que todos de-mostremos tal diligencia en nuestra búsqueda de la vida eterna. La experiencia nos dice que la riqueza puede acabar-se o nos la pueden quitar, pero Dios es un ancla firme. El dólar en nuestro bolsillo está hoy aquí y mañana ya no, pero el Señor siempre está ahí para nosotros, y en nuestro alrededor. El fallecido evangelista Billy Graham dijo que el Señor nos dio dos manos: una para dar y otra para recibir. Necesitamos los dos. Junta esas dos manos y podemos orar a Dios, quien es la fuente de toda bendición. Lo que Amós dice es cierto: que Dios nunca olvida nada de lo que hemos hecho, así que al menos vivamos una vida digna de recordar, una vida llena de las obras de misericordia espirituales y cor-porales.

Stay With Us – Reflection by Paty Rascon Last Sunday we celebrated the Catechetical Sunday with the theme “Stay With Us,” quoting the two disciples on the road to Emmaus who invited Jesus to stay with them. (Luke 24:13–35). Every year the United States Conference of Catholic Bish-ops designates a theme for the catechetical year so we can focus in one aspect of our lifelong faith formation. Stay With Us is the theme for this catechetical year and calls us – not only catechists but all the faithful - to an encounter with Je-sus, to have a personal relationship with him, letting him to touch our hearts. It is an invitation to reflect in how we rec-ognize his presence our lives, and how and when we invite him to stay with us. Also, it is about accompanying those who are sharing the journey with us so we can build and strengthen our community of faith and live as true disciples of Jesus.
Your Child’s Faith Formation Childhood is a critical time. It is when the foundation is set for lifelong faith and devotion to God. Classes begin in a couples of weeks. Please register this week. Registration forms are in the entrances of the church and the parish office.

SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
THE SILVER BOX PHILOSOPHY St. Clare School has a unique way of teaching and practicing gospel values with its students. Inspired by a poem written by Michael Bright and published in the book “Silver Boxes” by Florence Littauer, the Silver Box philosophy provides a way for students, especially the littlest ones to reach out with en-couraging words and actions to those who might be hurting or may need help. Teachers in the classroom affirm “silver box” behaviors, and each week they are recognized at morning assembly. St. Clare alums, to this day, will talk about how they would bring the messages home and how they have adopted the philoso-phy in their own lives. May we live our lives as Christ has, the mediator and “silver box” who provides encouragement and hope, especially in this world full of hate, anger and resentment. Here is Michael Bright’s poem. Wishing you a week full of silver box moments! My words were harsh and hasty And they came without a thought. Then I saw the pain and anguish That my bitter words had brought. Bitter words that I had spoken Made me think back through the past; Of how many times I’d uttered Biting words whose pain would last. Then I wondered of the people I had hurt by things I’d said; All the ones I had discouraged When I didn’t use my head. Then I thought about my own life. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Although June is the month most associated with weddings in the United States, September has become more popular in recent years. Wedding celebrations al-ways require some savvy planning, and people who have a talent for hospitality in the mix. At the wedding feast at Cana, the mother of Jesus was recruited to deal with some of the details of the banquet, and when a very understandable crisis arose, she did what she could to rescue the party. Anyone who has ever run out of ice, dessert, or table settings knows the stress! Slowly, the memory of Jesus Christ’s blessing of this marriage feast led the Church to form a way to bless marriages. A thousand years ago weddings migrated from the family home to the doors of the church, where the celebration was held in public view. From this prac-tice came a prayer called the “Nuptial Blessing,” one of the most solemn prayers in our tradition. It is very much like the prayers by which baptismal water and chrism are consecrated, the ordination prayer over a priest, and the Eucharistic Prayers over bread and wine. Four hundred fifty years ago, weddings moved inside the church build-ing. All of this gives married couples good reason to cel-ebrate their anniversaries well, especially with the clink-ing of glasses filled with good wine.—James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina
Padre Pio was born on May 25, 1887 in Pietrelcina, southern Italy. He was tu-tored privately until his en-try to the novitiate of the Capuchin Friars at the age of 15. Of feeble health but strong will, with the help of grace, he completed the required studies and was ordained a priest in 1910. On September 20, 1918 the five wounds of our Lord’s passion appeared on his
body, making him the first stigmatized priest in the history of the Catholic Church. Countless persons were attracted to his confessional and many more received his saintly counsel and spiritual guidance through correspondence. His whole life was marked by long hours of prayer and continual austerity. His letters to his spiritual directors re-veal the ineffable suffering, physical and spiritual, which accompanied him all through his life. They also reveal his deep union with God, his burning love for the Blessed Eu-charist and Our Blessed Lady.

bautizados, a un encuentro con Jesús, a tener una rela-ción personal con él, permitiéndole tocar nuestros corazo-nes. Octubre Mes del Rosario El mes de octubre es dedicado al Santo Rosario y el Papa Francisco nos ha pedido que recemos el santo Rosario en familia durante todos los días del mes. En nuestra parro-quia lo rezaremos en español todos los días del mes de octubre, a las 6:30pm, en la capilla de la rectoría. Todos están invitados y si tienen niños de 5 años en adelante. Los pueden traer para que crezcan viviendo la fe en su comunidad.
Bautizos Las clases de preparación en español son el 1er. lunes de cada mes, el bautizo se celebra el 3er. sábado del mes. Excepto durante la Cuaresma. Mayor información en la oficina.

Reflexão por: João Pereira Arruda Vemos hoje que já há 750 anos antes de Cristo o profeta Amós falando em nome de Deus defendia os pobres e os fracos contra os ricos e poderosos. A ganância do querer mais riqueza leva a prejudicar e fazer mal aos que são pobres e indefesos. Através de inúmeras passagens da Bíblia Deus Nosso Pai, nos é apresentado, como defensor dos fracos, dos que socialmente são irrelevantes, como voz dos que não tem voz, que faz justiça aos que não têem forças para defenderem os seus direitos. Ser fiel a Deus inclui fidelidade á justiça. Lembremo-nos que enquanto vivendo neste mundo acumulamos bens que pertencendo a este mundo somos delegados a administrar-mos esses bens; não para sermos donos do mundo, mas para os usarmos para nós prórpios e usar-los para o bem comum de todos que não têem meios para subsistir. As riquezas deste mundo foram nos dadas para as administrar-mos e estas não serem propriedade nossa mas de Deus. S. Paulo na Segunda leitura de hoje diz: “ Deus quer que todos os homens se salvem e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade”. Nos nossos dias tanto os governos, como os meios sociais informativos afastam-se da verdade. Fazem todo o esforço para nos confundir e afastar do plano que Deus nos traçou para vivermos neste mundo segundo a Sua Lei de Amor e Misericórdia para com todos. Tudo o que confunde, desune, mata, escandaliza, não vem de Deus e consequentemente não se deve pactuar com os perpetrores que criam este ambiente de injustiças, maldades, criminalidades e opressão aos que os enfrentam e denunciam. Mas olhemos para Amós que em nome de Deus denunciou as injustiças e opressões muito antes da chegada de Cristo ao mundo. Olhando bem ao que Jesus do modo que Jesus fala no Evangelho que parece elogiar o mau administrador quando o que Cristo está querendo dizer é que devemos defender com o mesmo zelo os interesses de Deus com a mesma ganância do administrador desonesto. Quando com zelo e entusiasmo, se trabalha, promove, os interesses de Deus no mundo este se torna no lugar paelo qual os valores essenciais humanos de amor e felecidade se sobrepoem aos que causal mal, tristeza e dor.
Notícias Piquenique da Comunidade: E já no próximo Domingo que o CPP vai levar a efeito o evento anual do piquenique no parque de estacioamento da escola paroquial na área designada para fazer churrascos. Este evento é desehando não só para angariamento de fundos mas também para reuniar num ameno convívio da comunidade pelo qual oferece uma oportunidade de aumentar a união e amisade de pertencermos uns aos outros como uma família-comunidade. A presença de todos é essencial bem assim a contribuição de donativos e ofertas para o bazar, rifa e leilão. Os bilhetes estão disponíveis e podem ser obtidos através de qualquer membro do CPP aos preços de $20.00 por adulto e de $8.00 para crianças dos 6-10 anos de idade. Venham todos ao piquenique celebrar o que é muito nosso e que a é uma tradição duradoira que nos une e nos indentifica como comunidade. Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and a commitment in all its dimensions brings you advantages,
recognition, and responsibilities of many kinds. Being a registered parishioner makes things much easier when it is time for infant Baptism, weddings, when
asked to be a Baptismal or Confirmation Sponsor and even funerals. We are often asked to provide affidavits for Baptismal and Confirmation Spon-
sors. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contribution member.
So, are you a registered parishioner? If not please consider registering. Registration forms are available in the Parish
Office and in the Church vestibule.
