ldquoWhat a fantastic eveninghelliprdquo was echoed aroundThe Harefield Academy following the wonderfulUpper School Celebration Eveningon Thursday 27th November Vice PrincipalFiona OrsquoSullivan who led on the organisation ofevening said that it was a fantastic opportunityto celebrate our studentsrsquo achievements staffand students alike were inspired by the successthat was celebrated Guest of Honour andOlympian Dave Long said that as an Olympianit was so refreshing to see the ethos ofexcellence hard work and sheer enjoymentbeing celebrated at The Harefield Academy ldquoThecohesive teamwork of students teachersadministrators parents and backers was plain tosee and deserves to be applauded The WatfordFootball Club Award for Contribution to Footballwas presented by Watford FC Sporting DirectorLuke Dowling and with Head of Academy ChrisMcGuane in the audience boarder Carl Weserstepped up to receive the Award Twenty special

Meet some of our talentedRedgrave House students

Redgrave House student Georgia Baker comesfrom a background of Acrobatic Gymnastics Shewas three times British National Champion inwomens pairs 2010 2011 and 2013 andrepresented her club and region both in the UKand internationally She was fortunate enoughto train and appear with Spelbound (BGTwinners) and was part of the 2012 Olympic

essence of effort and determination As a GCSEstudent she laboured for many hours voluntarilyaftershyschool to complete extra work Herwonderful results were a testament of her manyhours toil As a Sixth Form student she hascontinued her outstanding work ethic achievingsuperb ASshylevel grades in the summer as a resultAnnabelle also recently gave up her half termholiday to work at the Brick Court Chambers inLondon a crucial legal work experienceplacement for her law university application Weexpect great things from Annabelle and shenever disappoints

here with Miss LeonardTo be an Olympian requires outstanding qualitiesand characteristics such as sporting techniqueand skill commitment focus and determinationalongside being a leader and role modelinspiring future generations Therefore therecipient of the Olympic award has to showthese qualities alongside the potential tocompete in such a blue ribbon event as theOlympicsThis pathway is not easy and has its fair share ofdisappointments as well as accolades Finding abalance between the amount and intensity oftraining required day after day alongsidemaintaining an academic focus can lead tomany potential champions falling by thewayside Not so for the recipient of this yearrsquosOlympian Award Aaron has been with us sinceYear 7 and maintained his love for his sport Taekwon Do Training every week for most of hislife he has honed his talent and performs to thehighest level Not content with being British oreven European champion he set his sights on

closing ceremony with them Georgia started cheerleading after leaving Acroin 2013 with Unity Allstars Pearl (Junior Level 3amp 4) They were undefeated this season andwon the title Grand Champs This coming seasonGeorgia will be competing with Unity Pearl andUnity Saffron her first competition will be theSouthern Regionals in January Georgia alsofeatured in the CBBC series My Team theCheerleaders with Unity Pearl which was anamazing experience (Report by Mrs Baker shy mother of Georgia Baker)

Sixth Formers Meet ShaunAttwood

The annual Sixth Form ReligiousEducation Conference took place this term Ourguest this year was the former stockshymarketmillionaire and Ecstasy dealer turned antishydrugsactivist Shaun Attwood Shaunrsquos story wascovered in the National Geographic documentarylsquoRaving Arizonarsquo Shaun is now an antishydrugscampaigner and has written numerous books onhis experiences in American prisons His writinghas subsequently put the international mediaspotlight on US prison conditions and Shaunhas inadvertently become an advocate ofprisonersrsquo rights Shaun talked about his life andthe mistakes he had made very honestly andallowed the students to ask him questions abouthis experiences and his struggle to findenlightenment (Miss Fitzgerald)

The Olympians VisitThe Academy

Recently we had the pleasure of having threeOlympic athletes at The Academy at the sametime One being our wonderful sponsor HaigOundjian and the others being Joslyn HoyteshySmith and Louise Collins Joslyn is a former Great Britain 400m runnerwho competed in the 1980 Olympics in Moscowand Louise is a 200m sprinter who competed inthe 1988 Seoul Olympics Both are part of The Olympians which was setup in 2013 and is the body established tomaintain a network and to harness the goodwillskill resource and inspirational potential of allliving British Olympians It was a fantastic experience for staff to discussthe future of sport in schools with two GreatBritain athletes and in part this is how TheOlympians would like to make use of thebreadth of Olympic athlete experience we havein the country (Mr Littlewood)

Sixth Formers Raise Fundsfor Children In Need

On Friday 14th November our Sixth Formstudents came to school in lsquofancy dressrsquo to raisemoney for Children in Need We had a largenumber of Sixth Formers join in with the funTutor groups were visited by a horse WherersquosWally Peter Pan a harlequin a pirate amechanic Winnie the Pooh and a largecollection of animals to name just a few andraised pound20841 The Sixth Formers also raisedpound17840 for the Poppy Appeal by sellingpoppies within school to staff and studentsMassive thanks to all the staff and students whodressed up and donated (Miss Fitzgerald)

Sixth form students Mitchell Jones and DannyLewis competed in the National Table Tennisfinals on the 22nd November in PrestonCompeting in the U18 doubles category theymade a fantastic team winning their waythrough group stages and the quarter finalsThey were only stopped in the semishyfinal by thenumber 1 and 2 ranked players in the countrywho had teamed upTo come 3rd in the country is a hugeachievement and a credit to the daily trainingthey have received for the last seven yearsthrough coach Eli Baraty and GreenhouseCharity (Mr Littlewood)

U13 West London Champions ndashJust

Mitchell Pidgeon Chandler Cash Jay Frost Marshall Cash and Matthew VincentshyEdwards arethrough to the English Schools London TableTennis finals in JanuaryThey convincingly beat Burlington Danes andWilson schools but had a battle with WhitmoreSchool Having just beat them in the groupstages they faced Whitmore again in the final Athriller is an understatement ndash this was a battleso close only counting back the points woncould separate the two teams Scores were tiedat four games all the last game went to 17 ndash 17and then points scored were checked TheHarefield Academy had 167 and Whitmore 161 An epic battle that resulted in The HarefieldAcademy being crowned U13 West LondonChampions (Mr Littlewood)

On Friday 12th December the staff and SixthFormers of The Harefield Academy woreChristmas jumpers to support the charity Savethe Children Recently the charity has beenadvertising on television that the 12th Decemberwas lsquoChristmas Jumper Dayrsquo All staff and SixthFormers paid pound2 each to wear their jumpers andmany had to swallow their pride The jumpersranged from snowmen to Santa and Rudolphthere were also jumpers that lit up The Academyraised over pound130 (Miss Fitzgerald)

Harrow Borough 1st TeamFootball

After impressive performances for The HarefieldAcademy 1st team on Wednesdays and HarrowBorough U21 team on Sundays six currentplayers from The Harefield Academy SportingExcellence Scheme were selected by the HarrowBorough first team manager to play in theHarrow Borough first team They playedalongside other first team players and exshyHarefield Academy Sporting Excellence Schemestudents in a cup match against Clapton FCwhich they won 3shy0 Carl Weser impressedenough to be selected for the first team to playfor Harrow Borough in the FA cup In additionto this both Keiron Noel and Carl Weser havebeen given trials with Watford FC and Englandschool boys The Sporting Excellence Scheme has fantasticopportunities for the players to develop underthe monitoring of Watford FC with trials forthose who are excelling The opportunity toplay U21 football for The Academy team inpartnership with Harrow Borough is a newdevelopment this season which enables playersto step towards mens football by earning firstteam call ups and a possible contract Excitingdevelopments for next year include TheAcademy team playing in the FA Youth Cup inpartnership with Harrow Borough FC Theachievement by these players demonstrates thestrength of the football package in the SixthForm here at The Harefield Academy as it nowoffers the very best opportunities for any playerwanting to succeed in football (Mr Brown)

On Tuesday 11th November approximately 50girls of all ages took part in the BoroughBasketball Tournament at The HarefieldAcademy There were two competitions runningat the same time the U14 and U16 age groupsFor both age groups Vyners and The HarefieldAcademy were in the finalBoth games were very close with some greatbasketball being played by both teams Vynerswon the U14 competition and The HarefieldAcademy won the U16 competition This nowmeans that both schools can progress to theLondon Youth Games representingHillingdon (Mr Littlewood)

Sixth Formers Josie and Sianvisit Auschwitz

On Wednesday 1st October Sixth Form studentsJosie Cook and Sian Jones travelled with theLessons from Auschwitz project to visit the Naziconcentration and extermination campAuschwitzshyBirkenau They also met and wereable to ask questions of real Holocaust survivorsas part of a workshop Both students found theexperience deeply moving and will now design away to educate young people about theHolocaust as their final project (MissFitzgerald)

The annual Sixth Form ReligiousEducation Conference took place this term Ourguest this year was the former stockshymarketmillionaire and Ecstasy dealer turned antishydrugsactivist Shaun Attwood Shaunrsquos story wascovered in the National Geographic documentarylsquoRaving Arizonarsquo Shaun is now an antishydrugscampaigner and has written numerous books onhis experiences in American prisons His writinghas subsequently put the international mediaspotlight on US prison conditions and Shaunhas inadvertently become an advocate ofprisonersrsquo rights Shaun talked about his life andthe mistakes he had made very honestly andallowed the students to ask him questions abouthis experiences and his struggle to findenlightenment (Miss Fitzgerald)

Recently we had the pleasure of having threeOlympic athletes at The Academy at the sametime One being our wonderful sponsor HaigOundjian and the others being Joslyn HoyteshySmith and Louise Collins Joslyn is a former Great Britain 400m runnerwho competed in the 1980 Olympics in Moscowand Louise is a 200m sprinter who competed inthe 1988 Seoul Olympics Both are part of The Olympians which was setup in 2013 and is the body established tomaintain a network and to harness the goodwillskill resource and inspirational potential of allliving British Olympians It was a fantastic experience for staff to discussthe future of sport in schools with two GreatBritain athletes and in part this is how TheOlympians would like to make use of thebreadth of Olympic athlete experience we havein the country (Mr Littlewood)

On Friday 12th December the staff and SixthFormers of The Harefield Academy woreChristmas jumpers to support the charity Savethe Children Recently the charity has beenadvertising on television that the 12th Decemberwas lsquoChristmas Jumper Dayrsquo All staff and SixthFormers paid pound2 each to wear their jumpers andmany had to swallow their pride The jumpersranged from snowmen to Santa and Rudolphthere were also jumpers that lit up The Academyraised over pound130 (Miss Fitzgerald)

After impressive performances for The HarefieldAcademy 1st team on Wednesdays and HarrowBorough U21 team on Sundays six currentplayers from The Harefield Academy SportingExcellence Scheme were selected by the HarrowBorough first team manager to play in theHarrow Borough first team They playedalongside other first team players and exshyHarefield Academy Sporting Excellence Schemestudents in a cup match against Clapton FCwhich they won 3shy0 Carl Weser impressedenough to be selected for the first team to playfor Harrow Borough in the FA cup In additionto this both Keiron Noel and Carl Weser havebeen given trials with Watford FC and Englandschool boys The Sporting Excellence Scheme has fantasticopportunities for the players to develop underthe monitoring of Watford FC with trials forthose who are excelling The opportunity toplay U21 football for The Academy team inpartnership with Harrow Borough is a newdevelopment this season which enables playersto step towards mens football by earning firstteam call ups and a possible contract Excitingdevelopments for next year include TheAcademy team playing in the FA Youth Cup inpartnership with Harrow Borough FC Theachievement by these players demonstrates thestrength of the football package in the SixthForm here at The Harefield Academy as it nowoffers the very best opportunities for any playerwanting to succeed in football (Mr Brown)

On Wednesday 1st October Sixth Form studentsJosie Cook and Sian Jones travelled with theLessons from Auschwitz project to visit the Naziconcentration and extermination campAuschwitzshyBirkenau They also met and wereable to ask questions of real Holocaust survivorsas part of a workshop Both students found theexperience deeply moving and will now design away to educate young people about theHolocaust as their final project (MissFitzgerald)

Redgrave House student Georgia Baker comesfrom a background of Acrobatic Gymnastics Shewas three times British National Champion inwomens pairs 2010 2011 and 2013 andrepresented her club and region both in the UKand internationally She was fortunate enoughto train and appear with Spelbound (BGTwinners) and was part of the 2012 Olympic

On Friday 12th December the staff and SixthFormers of The Harefield Academy woreChristmas jumpers to support the charity Savethe Children Recently the charity has beenadvertising on television that the 12th Decemberwas lsquoChristmas Jumper Dayrsquo All staff and SixthFormers paid pound2 each to wear their jumpers andmany had to swallow their pride The jumpersranged from snowmen to Santa and Rudolphthere were also jumpers that lit up The Academyraised over pound130 (Miss Fitzgerald)

After impressive performances for The HarefieldAcademy 1st team on Wednesdays and HarrowBorough U21 team on Sundays six currentplayers from The Harefield Academy SportingExcellence Scheme were selected by the HarrowBorough first team manager to play in theHarrow Borough first team They playedalongside other first team players and exshyHarefield Academy Sporting Excellence Schemestudents in a cup match against Clapton FCwhich they won 3shy0 Carl Weser impressedenough to be selected for the first team to playfor Harrow Borough in the FA cup In additionto this both Keiron Noel and Carl Weser havebeen given trials with Watford FC and Englandschool boys The Sporting Excellence Scheme has fantasticopportunities for the players to develop underthe monitoring of Watford FC with trials forthose who are excelling The opportunity toplay U21 football for The Academy team inpartnership with Harrow Borough is a newdevelopment this season which enables playersto step towards mens football by earning firstteam call ups and a possible contract Excitingdevelopments for next year include TheAcademy team playing in the FA Youth Cup inpartnership with Harrow Borough FC Theachievement by these players demonstrates thestrength of the football package in the SixthForm here at The Harefield Academy as it nowoffers the very best opportunities for any playerwanting to succeed in football (Mr Brown)

Sixth Formers Meet ShaunAttwood

The annual Sixth Form ReligiousEducation Conference took place this term Ourguest this year was the former stockshymarketmillionaire and Ecstasy dealer turned antishydrugsactivist Shaun Attwood Shaunrsquos story wascovered in the National Geographic documentarylsquoRaving Arizonarsquo Shaun is now an antishydrugscampaigner and has written numerous books onhis experiences in American prisons His writinghas subsequently put the international mediaspotlight on US prison conditions and Shaunhas inadvertently become an advocate ofprisonersrsquo rights Shaun talked about his life andthe mistakes he had made very honestly andallowed the students to ask him questions abouthis experiences and his struggle to findenlightenment (Miss Fitzgerald)

The Olympians VisitThe Academy

Recently we had the pleasure of having threeOlympic athletes at The Academy at the sametime One being our wonderful sponsor HaigOundjian and the others being Joslyn HoyteshySmith and Louise Collins Joslyn is a former Great Britain 400m runnerwho competed in the 1980 Olympics in Moscowand Louise is a 200m sprinter who competed inthe 1988 Seoul Olympics Both are part of The Olympians which was setup in 2013 and is the body established tomaintain a network and to harness the goodwillskill resource and inspirational potential of allliving British Olympians It was a fantastic experience for staff to discussthe future of sport in schools with two GreatBritain athletes and in part this is how TheOlympians would like to make use of thebreadth of Olympic athlete experience we havein the country (Mr Littlewood)

Sixth Formers Meet ShaunAttwood

The annual Sixth Form ReligiousEducation Conference took place this term Ourguest this year was the former stockshymarketmillionaire and Ecstasy dealer turned antishydrugsactivist Shaun Attwood Shaunrsquos story wascovered in the National Geographic documentarylsquoRaving Arizonarsquo Shaun is now an antishydrugscampaigner and has written numerous books onhis experiences in American prisons His writinghas subsequently put the international mediaspotlight on US prison conditions and Shaunhas inadvertently become an advocate ofprisonersrsquo rights Shaun talked about his life andthe mistakes he had made very honestly andallowed the students to ask him questions abouthis experiences and his struggle to findenlightenment (Miss Fitzgerald)

The Olympians VisitThe Academy

Recently we had the pleasure of having threeOlympic athletes at The Academy at the sametime One being our wonderful sponsor HaigOundjian and the others being Joslyn HoyteshySmith and Louise Collins Joslyn is a former Great Britain 400m runnerwho competed in the 1980 Olympics in Moscowand Louise is a 200m sprinter who competed inthe 1988 Seoul Olympics Both are part of The Olympians which was setup in 2013 and is the body established tomaintain a network and to harness the goodwillskill resource and inspirational potential of allliving British Olympians It was a fantastic experience for staff to discussthe future of sport in schools with two GreatBritain athletes and in part this is how TheOlympians would like to make use of thebreadth of Olympic athlete experience we havein the country (Mr Littlewood)

After impressive performances for The HarefieldAcademy 1st team on Wednesdays and HarrowBorough U21 team on Sundays six currentplayers from The Harefield Academy SportingExcellence Scheme were selected by the HarrowBorough first team manager to play in theHarrow Borough first team They playedalongside other first team players and exshyHarefield Academy Sporting Excellence Schemestudents in a cup match against Clapton FCwhich they won 3shy0 Carl Weser impressedenough to be selected for the first team to playfor Harrow Borough in the FA cup In additionto this both Keiron Noel and Carl Weser havebeen given trials with Watford FC and Englandschool boys The Sporting Excellence Scheme has fantasticopportunities for the players to develop underthe monitoring of Watford FC with trials forthose who are excelling The opportunity toplay U21 football for The Academy team inpartnership with Harrow Borough is a newdevelopment this season which enables playersto step towards mens football by earning firstteam call ups and a possible contract Excitingdevelopments for next year include TheAcademy team playing in the FA Youth Cup inpartnership with Harrow Borough FC Theachievement by these players demonstrates thestrength of the football package in the SixthForm here at The Harefield Academy as it nowoffers the very best opportunities for any playerwanting to succeed in football (Mr Brown)

On Wednesday 1st October Sixth Form studentsJosie Cook and Sian Jones travelled with theLessons from Auschwitz project to visit the Naziconcentration and extermination campAuschwitzshyBirkenau They also met and wereable to ask questions of real Holocaust survivorsas part of a workshop Both students found theexperience deeply moving and will now design away to educate young people about theHolocaust as their final project (MissFitzgerald)

On Friday 12th December the staff and SixthFormers of The Harefield Academy woreChristmas jumpers to support the charity Savethe Children Recently the charity has beenadvertising on television that the 12th Decemberwas lsquoChristmas Jumper Dayrsquo All staff and SixthFormers paid pound2 each to wear their jumpers andmany had to swallow their pride The jumpersranged from snowmen to Santa and Rudolphthere were also jumpers that lit up The Academyraised over pound130 (Miss Fitzgerald)

Harrow Borough 1st TeamFootball

After impressive performances for The HarefieldAcademy 1st team on Wednesdays and HarrowBorough U21 team on Sundays six currentplayers from The Harefield Academy SportingExcellence Scheme were selected by the HarrowBorough first team manager to play in theHarrow Borough first team They playedalongside other first team players and exshyHarefield Academy Sporting Excellence Schemestudents in a cup match against Clapton FCwhich they won 3shy0 Carl Weser impressedenough to be selected for the first team to playfor Harrow Borough in the FA cup In additionto this both Keiron Noel and Carl Weser havebeen given trials with Watford FC and Englandschool boys The Sporting Excellence Scheme has fantasticopportunities for the players to develop underthe monitoring of Watford FC with trials forthose who are excelling The opportunity toplay U21 football for The Academy team inpartnership with Harrow Borough is a newdevelopment this season which enables playersto step towards mens football by earning firstteam call ups and a possible contract Excitingdevelopments for next year include TheAcademy team playing in the FA Youth Cup inpartnership with Harrow Borough FC Theachievement by these players demonstrates thestrength of the football package in the SixthForm here at The Harefield Academy as it nowoffers the very best opportunities for any playerwanting to succeed in football (Mr Brown)

On Tuesday 11th November approximately 50girls of all ages took part in the BoroughBasketball Tournament at The HarefieldAcademy There were two competitions runningat the same time the U14 and U16 age groupsFor both age groups Vyners and The HarefieldAcademy were in the finalBoth games were very close with some greatbasketball being played by both teams Vynerswon the U14 competition and The HarefieldAcademy won the U16 competition This nowmeans that both schools can progress to theLondon Youth Games representingHillingdon (Mr Littlewood)

On Wednesday 1st October Sixth Form studentsJosie Cook and Sian Jones travelled with theLessons from Auschwitz project to visit the Naziconcentration and extermination campAuschwitzshyBirkenau They also met and wereable to ask questions of real Holocaust survivorsas part of a workshop Both students found theexperience deeply moving and will now design away to educate young people about theHolocaust as their final project (MissFitzgerald)
