Assemble10completedquilt-letsintotheconfigurationshownatleftIsewedminetogetherbymachine,byoverlappingtheedgesofmyquilt-letsby1/8”andsewingwithavariegatedthread.Havingdonethis,Icantellyouthatitwouldprobablybeeasiertoladderstitchtogetherbyhand.

Ifyouhaveladder-stitchedandbig-stitchquiltedthequilt-letsbyhandthenyouarereadytoproceedtothenextpage.Ifyourquilt-letswillbequiltedbymachine,stichrandomstraightlinesacrosstheentirepiecetoholdthebattinginplaceandpreventitfromcurlingandbunchingwhenlaundered.

Stitchtogethertheedgesofthequilt-lets,toformthebasicbagshape,asindicatedinthephotos,attopfromlefttoright,leavingthebottomcornersuntiltheend.InthesampleIhaveclosedthebottomcornersbysimplystitchingthe2layerstogetherinsteadofoverlapping.Yourbagshellshouldendupapproximately171/2”x171/2”tothebottomoftheVbetweenthehexiesatthetopofthebag.

Cuttheliningfabric361/2”x19”,Ididthisbyliningupthe181/4”markofa201/2”squareruleronthefoldlineandtheperpendicular19“linealongonecutedgeandtrimmingawaytheexcess.

Lineuparuleralonganedgeofyourbagtofindoutwherethepointsofthetophexiesare.Minewereatapproximately41/4”and131/4”.

Markalineatthesemeasurements,41/4”and131/4”fromthefoldline.Ididthisbyscoringalinewithaheramarkerandthenpressingafoldintothefabric.Foldyourliningfabricwrongsidestogetherandsewan1/8”seamalongthebottomedgeofthebag.Turnwrongsideoutandsewthesameseamwitha1/4”seamallowancetocreateanicelyfinishedFrenchseam.

Foldoverthetopedgeofthebagliningapproximately1/4”twiceandstitchinplace.

Sincethisisalargebagat18”tallyouwillhavetomeasurehowlongyouwantyourhandlestobesothebagdoesn’tdragonthegroundwhencarried.Imademinerelativelyshortat13”.Onthewrongsideofthebagliningandcenteringthetwilltapeoverthemarked41/4”linestartstitchingdowntheedgeofthetape.Continueacrossthefrenchseamatthebottomofthebagandtothetopedge.Pivotandstitchacrosstotheotheredgeofthetwilltapeatthetopedgeofthebag.

Pivotandstitchdowntheotheredgeofthetwilltape,backstitchingtosecureattheend.Measurethepredeterminedhandlelengthfromtheedgeofthebagandmarkwithapin.Curvethehandlesotherearenotwistsandcenterontothe131/4”mark,liningthepinupwiththetopedgeofthebaglining.Beginstitchingasbeforesecuringtheedgeofthetwilltape.

Continuestitchinguntilyoureachthetopedgeofthebagagainandrepeatasbefore.Whenyoureachtheotherendofthetwilltape,trimtheendleaving1/2”overlap.Foldundertheendandstitchacrosstosecure.

Closetheremainingsideseamwithafrenchseamasbefore,firstsewingan1/8”seamwiththeliningrightsideoutandthena1/4”seamwiththeliningwrongsideout.

Laythe13/8”richrackontothetwilltapemakingsureitextends1”pastthetopedgeofthebag.Stitchinplacebysewingpointtopointasshown.Trimtheends.InserttheliningintothebagliningupthevalleyoftheV’swiththetopedgeofthelining.Stitchinplace.BecauseIchoserandomstraightlinequilting,Isewingthelininginplacebymachineanditlookslikepartofmyquilting.Ifyouarestitchingthelininginplacebyhandsimplyslip-stitchinplacefromtheinsidemakingsurenottogothroughalllayers.Hideyourstitchinginsidethequilt-lets.

Becausethehandleissewntotheliningittakesalltheweightandthereisnostressonthequilt-letswhileyoucarryyourbag.Youmightchoosetoaddasecondsetofhandlestomakeitpossibleforyoutocarrythebagonyourshoulder.Ifso,placetheshoulderstrapinsidetheshorterhandlesothatitwillfallinsidethebagwhilecarryingandnotgetcaughtonthings.EnjoyyourTenQuilt-letsToGoTotebag!
