Abstract

%he research paper will discuss aout the concern that parents are ha#in" recently withtheir children who are addicted to )indi *artoon shows$ 'ost o! the parents are

claimin" that )indi cartoon shows are causin" cultural dilemma !or their children$ %hey

are so cra+y aout the cartoon shows that suconsciously speakin" )indi, doin" thin"s

like the cartoon characters$ %hrou"h this research, my intention was to pro#e that

 parents are aware o! the chan"e in the cultural eha#ior o! the children and they are

considerin" the prolem as important$ rom my research !indin"s, it has een pro#ed

appro#ed that parents are considerin" the )indi *artoon shows as an in!luencer to the

not a surprisin" phenomenon with the !amilies ha#in" kids who watch )indi *artoon

shows on %$?$ @layin" with dolls or mar#els days are "one$ In this "eneration, children

are spendin" their leisure time at home as outside is not sa!e !or them$ As the

technolo"y has een easin" our day to day hectic li!e, passin" leisure time with home

entertainment is now common !or kids$

)owe#er, in /an"ladesh uran !amilies which ha#e children !rom 2-10 years old are

now "ettin" prolems in pre#entin" the kids !rom )indi *artoon addiction$ As a result

o! watchin" *artoon shows in Indian %$? channels especially &3oraemon(, &Nina

)atori(B those kids are imitatin" the cartoon characters !rom their speakin" style to

acti#ities$ @arents are encounterin" that kids like to speak in )indi most o! the time$

Some o! the kids like to act like a cartoon character, try to learn what the character is

doin" in the cartoon show$

/an"ladeshi people are already !amiliar with Indian culture due to spreadin" popularity

o! Indian %$? channels in /an"ladesh$ %here!ore, there is an existence o! cross-culture

assault$ @arents ha#e complained that - their children are so much addicted to those

cartoon shows that they are startin" to !or"et their own cultural eha#iors$ %hey ha#e

claimed that )indi *artoon shows are causin" cultural dilemma !or their children$

household acti#ities and os, it "ets di!!icult to spend much time with their kids$

are their only choices o! spendin" a little !ree time they usually "et$

 Now-a-days, there are numerous %$?$ channels roadcasted !rom India in /an"ladesh$

%here!ore, it is not surprisin" to see /an"ladeshi #iewers pre!errin" those %$? channels

and the pro"rams they roadcast$ Amon" those channels, &3isney(, &Nickelodeon( these

are much popular to /an"ladeshi kids$ %hese cartoon channels show cartoon dued in

)indi which are &3oraemon( in &3isney(, &Nina )atori( in &Nickelodeon($ %hese

cartoon shows are ori"inally Dapanese made cartoons which "ained much popularity in

Dapan$

India decided to rin" those cartoon shows in their country y duin" in )indi so that

Indian children can easily understand the cartoons$ It is a matter o! dis"race that i! India

did no compromise with their mother lan"ua"e, why /an"ladesh could not think aout

the lan"ua"e e!!ect on children e!ore lettin" the cartoon channels roadcasted here

!or"ettin" our mother lan"ua"e< =p$ 1, para$1>$ )e speci!ically complained aout )indi

dued &3oraemon( !or makin" children cra+y$ )e also pointed out that many kids are

tryin" to imitate the characters in &3oraemon( which seemed to e ha+ardous !or the

child mind$ IFal =2011> also stated that in this cartoon show such e#ents are shown that

are considered as inappropriate in our culture =p$ 2, para$>$

Another lo" &%o )ell with 3oraemon( ar"ued aout the most popular cartoon show

&3oraemon($ amin =2011> wrote in the lo" that this dued cartoon show is

in!luencin" the minds o! children in Indian su-continent countries like /an"ladesh =p$

5>$ ather than deli#erin" some creati#e thin"s to learn, this cartoon show is "i#in"

ne"ati#e in!luence to the children o! the uran areas a"ainst which he con#eyed his

!erocity$ )e insisted that /an"ladesh should immediately shut down the &3isney(

in )indi, helpin" them learn the Indian lan"ua"e more pro!iciently, which is not really

mi"ht like to exercise them in real situations$ @arents may not understand why children

children$ or the sur#ey, I ha#e desi"ned a Fuestionnaire with di!!erent types o!

Fuestions re"ardin" *artoon show(s contents, impact o! these shows in /an"ladeshi

culture, parents( concern aout their children etc$ 'y respondents were mostly parents

ha#in" kinder"arten "oin" kids$

 

I had planned to choose a sample o! .0 ut due to short time ein" I ha#e chosen 24

respondents !or sur#eyin"$ 3urin" sur#eyin", I ha#e asked some kids aout what they

like aout the )indi cartoons$ I ha#e #isited two schools near my home to sur#ey with

the parents$ )owe#er, I ha#e !ound some nei"hors who are also !acin" the same

situation with their kids$
