FROM FATHER CHUCK Happy Independence Day! This is such an important day for our nation to step back and give thanks for the freedom we enjoy as a people. It is a freedom that is, first and foremost, granted to every human being by God. Sadly, we know that there are millions of people in the world who do not live in the freedom given to them by God. That is true even within parts of our own country as human beings are trafficked, oppressed, and abused into a fear that can paralyze them. Thus, we have lots of work to do, within our country and throughout the world, to ensure that all people can enjoy the same freedom. I believe it is also crucial for us to remember on Independence Day that others lost their land and freedom as our nation was being built. The indigenous peoples of what would be called America were mostly overrun and Africans were stolen and brought to the “New World” which often suspend-ed basic human rights and thus, the law of God, in ignorance and in the name of “progress.” I do not raise these things to make us feel guilty or even responsible, but simply for us to be mindful that the formation of our country was not without grave sin and that, as a country, we owe a debt to remedy any remnant of the abuses that occurred or that still hang on today. As a people of faith, we ought to do our part to strive for this. As is said in one of our Eucharistic Prayers, that the Church may “stand as a living witness to truth and freedom, to peace and justice, that all people may be raised up to a new hope.” Very importantly, this day we also lift up in prayer all those who have given their lives to protect the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, from the Revolutionary War to the present day and we seek to protect and preserve those in military service by keeping our country’s motives and actions pure and unblemished by blind power, self-interest or greed. May we strive for and experience a deep healing in our nation that we may be united in our gratitude for the independence and protec-tions we know. “America, America, God mend thine every flaw, confirm they soul in self-control, thy liberty in law.” I’m happy that we are able to open up more of our pews this weekend. It’ll be nice to accommo-date more people and will be less complicated for everyone to find a seat. I want to stress once more the importance of everyone being vaccinated. It is the only way we will be able to remain opened. There are still people contracting COVID and it appears, even with the variant, that the vast majority of people getting sick have not been vaccinated. In Washoe County we are still averaging about 20 cases a day. Those who are not vaccinated can transmit the virus without knowing it. That is why we ask all those not vaccinated to wear a mask, both for their own health and the safety and health of our children under 12 and others who are not able to be vaccinated. Also, we are maintain-ing the side sections of the church at 6-feet social distancing, except for those in the same house-hold. Thanks very much for your cooperation. Let us all continue to pray for an end to this virus among us and in our world, especially in those countries that are still struggling terribly. Finally, I want to be sure to welcome all our visitors on this holiday weekend. It is a joy to be able to welcome visitors to our city and especially to our church again. May your time among us be prayerful and visit to our area restful and rejuvenating. BLESSINGS TO ALL THIS 14TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME!

¡Feliz Día de la Independencia! Este es un día muy importante para nuestra nación, tomemos pues un momento para dar gracias por la libertad que disfrutamos. Es una libertad que, ante todo, es concedida a todo ser humano por Dios. Tristemente, sabemos que hay millones de personas en el mundo que no viven en la libertad que Dios les ha dado. Esto es cierto, incluso en algunas partes de nuestro propio país, ya que seres humanos son objeto del tratado de blancas, opresión y abuso hasta ser inculcados un miedo que los paraliza. Por lo tanto, tenemos mucho trabajo por hacer, dentro de nuestro país y en todo el mundo, para garantizar que todos podamos disfrutar de la misma libertad.
Creo que también es crucial que recordemos en el Día de la Independencia que otros perdieron su tierra y su libertad mientras se construía nuestra nación. Los pueblos indígenas de lo que se llamaría América, en su mayoría fueron invadidos, y los africanos fueron robados y llevados al "Nuevo Mundo", que a menudo suspendía sus derechos básicos y, por lo tanto, la ley de Dios, en la ignorancia y en nom-bre del "progreso". Muy importante, este día también levantamos en oración a todos aquellos que han dado su vida para proteger las libertades consagradas en nuestra Constitución, desde la Guerra revolucionaria hasta nuestros días y buscamos proteger y preservar a los que están en el servicio militar, manteniendo los motivos y acciones de nuestro país puros e intachables por el poder ciego, interés propio o avaricia. Que nos esforcemos y experimentemos una sanación profunda en nuestra nación para que podamos estar unidos en nuestra gratitud por la independencia y las protecciones que conocemos. "América, América, Dios repara cada defecto, confirma que tienen alma en autocontrol, tu libertad en la ley".
Me complace que podamos abrir más de bancas este fin de semana. Será agradable acomodar a más personas y será menos complicado encontrar un asiento. Quiero subrayar una vez más la impor-tancia de que todos se vacunen. Es la única manera de que podremos permanecer abiertos. Todavía hay personas que contraen COVID y parece, incluso con la variante, que la gran mayoría de las perso-nas que se enferman no han sido vacunadas. En el condado de Washoe se reportan en promedio unos 20 casos al día. Quienes no están vacunados pueden transmitir el virus sin saberlo. Por eso pedimos a todos los que no están vacunados que usen la mascarilla, tanto por su propia salud como por la seguri-dad y salud de nuestros niños menores de 12 años y de otros que no pueden vacunarse. Además, es-tamos manteniendo las secciones laterales de la iglesia en 6-pies de distanciamiento social, excepto para quienes viven en el mismo hogar. Muchas gracias por su cooperación. Sigamos orando por el fin de este virus, especialmente en aquellos países que todavía están luchando terriblemente.
Por último, quiero asegurarme de dar la bienvenida a todos nuestros visitantes en este fin de sema-na feriado. Es una alegría darles la bienvenida a nuestra ciudad y especialmente a nuestra iglesia de nuevo. Que su tiempo entre nosotros sea orante y puedan disfrutar de un descanso y rejuvenecedor.

CESSATION OF DISPENSATION Brothers and sisters in Christ,
At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, I granted to all Catholics in the Diocese of Reno a general dispensation from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass. Since there has been a significant decline in the number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths due to the novel Coronavirus in our region, and given the lifting of mitigation re-strictions, this dispensation will cease on July 1, 2021.
I encourage all Catholics to return to the practice of in-person participation in the Sunday Eucharist. The ex-perience of the pandemic underscores the need for us to gather together physically for worship and the sacra-ments.
The safety of all continues to be a priority as we gather. For this reason, I encourage all to get vaccinated if they have not already done so.
Some of the faithful cannot attend Mass in person due to illness or other health issues. Obviously, they are not obligated to attend Mass for this reason. They are asked to engage in appropriate prayer in honor of the Lord’s Day.

Confirmation/Youth Minister—40 hours/week; pay commensurate with Youth Ministry Certification, experience and skills. Primary Role: Coordinates the Sacrament of Confirmation 2-year preparation program in compliance with Diocesan & parish requirements, organizes, trains and supervises volunteer catechists for same program, attends regular meetings of Diocesan Confirmation & Youth Ministry Coordinators, organizes regular youth gatherings which foster spirituality, on-going catechesis and parish connection with post-Confirmation youth, maintains good communication and relationship with Pastor. Primary Skills: fully bilingual; English/Spanish, excellent organization, ability to foster enthusiasm for the Faith, ability to ensure quality programming for Confirmation preparation and youth ministry, ability to manage a large group of volunteers, creativity, seen as a model of faith in our parish.
