What is the Knights of Columbus Youth Retreat? The Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Sorrows Council #12040, in cooperation with the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville offers an annual Catholic retreat and rally for High School students from across the Rio Grande Valley. The retreat is an opportunity for young people to experience a significant faith event in their lives, make new friends and learn more about God, themselves, and others. How do I register for the KofC Youth Retreat? Do I have to come with a group and will there be adult leaders? YES! You must have an adult sponsor(s) assigned to your group. Each parish must provide an adult sponsor(s) to accompany your group, and every adult sponsor must have completed the Protecting God’s Children program as required by the Diocese of Brownsville. One (1) adult sponsor is required for every ten (10) retreatants of the same gender. For example, if your parish is sending 5 girls and 3 boys, both a male and female adult sponsor would be required. What if my parish is not sending anyone? You can contact a neighboring parish to join their group. You can also email the registration committee and an effort will be made to accommodate your participation. How do I get there? Transportation will be provided on a first-come/first-serve basis for parish groups. Your DRE/Youth Minister/Adult Leader must arrange this with our Knights of Columbus’ registration committee. Transportation is not available for parish groups who register after the December 13th, 2013 deadline. What do I bring and what do I wear? Most importantly, bring an open heart and willingness to get closer to God.

• Dress comfortably but modestly (no revealing clothing or short shorts/dresses, knee-length shorts are fine) • Each retreatant will receive a T-Shirt as part of your registration. • Bring spending money to purchase souvenirs and other religious items. • Cell phones are NOT ALLOWED during the retreat; they must be turned in to your adult leader who will return

them at the end of the retreat. Adult leaders should provide cell phone (contact) numbers to parents for any emergency.

What about meals and what if I have a special diet? All meals will be provided for you. If you require special dietary needs, please make a special note of it on your registration form and also notify your adult leader. Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate your needs. What if I need to arrive late or leave early? This is strongly discouraged because the day is packed with faith and fun. Everyone is expected to arrive on time and stay throughout the retreat. Any extraordinary circumstance can be addressed with your adult leader and the registration committee on a case-by-case basis. But we highly encourage that you please plan ahead to be present for the entire retreat experience. *** For questions regarding Retreat Registration, please visit www.KofC12040.org or via email [email protected]
