This photograph is of “Sister” Aimee Sem-ple Mc Pherson, an early 20th century evangelist. Sister Aimee was a pioneer of women in religion. Having experienced a

profound religious conversion at age 17, Aimee be-gan preaching across the United States and later, the world. In 1918, she established her base in Los Ange-les, Calif., where in 1923, the 5,300 seat Angelus Temple was dedicated and became the center of her revival, healing and benevolent ministries. She was the first woman to own and operate a Christian radio station. Her sermons were the first to incorporate the contemporary communications of that day into her preaching of the Gospel. From Angelus Temple she performed an extensive social ministry, providing hot meals for more than 1.5 million people during the Great Depression. She summarized her message into four major points known as "The Foursquare Gos-pel," and founded a denomination called The Four-square Church.

Her illustrated sermons attracted many from the en-tertainment industry, looking to see a "show" that ri-valed what Hollywood had to offer. These famous stage productions drew people who would never have thought to enter a church, and then presented them with the message of salvation. Aimee believed that the Gospel was to be presented at every opportunity and used worldly means at her disposal to present the Gospel to as many people as possible. Aimee once wrote, "You don't need to be an orator. What God wants are plain people with the Good News in their hearts who are willing to go and tell it to others. The love of winning souls for Jesus Christ sets a fire burning in one's bones. Soul winning is the most important thing in the world. All I have is on the altar for the Lord, and while I have my life and strength, I will put my whole being into the carrying out of this Great Commission." Sister McPherson, as she was affectionately called by her constituents, went to be with the Lord, September 27, 1944, while conducting a revival service in Oak-land, Calif. Memorial services were held on her birth-day, October 9th, at Angelus Temple. From its beginning at Angelus Temple, The Four-square Church has now grown to include more than

55,000 churches world-wide. There are cur-rently more than 10 million members in 149 countries around the globe. It presently ranks as one of the three or four most dis-tinguished branches of Pentecostalism.

About the Photograph: On March 15, 1925, Sister Aimee presented the sermon "Arrested for Speeding" at Ange-lus Temple. She wore a policeman's uniform and used the Indian motorcycle in the picture. The Indian Motorcycle Company loaned her the new motorcycle for the evening.

Contrary to stories being told and accounts written on several Internet sites, Sister Aimee did not ride the motorcycle inside Angelus Temple for this sermon. However, a motorcycle was ridden in Angelus Tem-ple for this sermon, but Aimee wasn't riding it. It hap-pened in 1937 when visiting evangelist Floyd John-son spoke at Angelus Temple, while Sister Aimee was in Denver. He re-created her famous sermon of twelve years earlier and rode the motorcycle on the platform. So, “Yes,” a motorcycle was once ridden in Angelus Temple for the sermon "Arrested for Speed-ing." But, it wasn't ridden by Aimee.

In Sister Aimee’s sermon, she equated people com-mitting sin and turning their lives against the will of God, to people speeding on the road, in violation of the law. She said that God has sent His Traffic Offi-cers of Warning and Judgment on motorcycles of mercy. She said, “The World was arrested for speed-ing in Noah’s day when, in the midst of their eating, drinking, dancing and merry making, God opened the windows of Heaven and sent the flood. The peoples were arrested for speeding at the Tower of Babel when the Lord confounded their language and scat-tered them abroad. The inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah were arrested for speeding because their sin was very grievous. The Lord rained fire and brim-stone out of Heaven and overthrew those cities and all the plain. Pharaoh and his hosts were arrested for speeding through the Red Sea in pursuit of God’s

children, when the Lord took off their chariot wheels and cause the waters to cover them. Absalom was ar-rested for speeding by Almighty God. What a sinner he was! He said, ‘No one will find out. No one will catch me! I am not afraid.’ One day as he fled down the Road of Sin, pursued by his guilty conscience, his steed galloped under the thick boughs of a great oak. A breeze was blowing. The branches of the tree dipped down. Absalom was caught up off his horse and hanged by the hair of his head and left to die. Belshazzar was arrested for speeding at a wild drink-ing party with a thousand of his lords. (With) eating, drinking, making merry... divine intervention and ar-rest were the farthest from his mind. Suddenly, came the shriek of the siren, splitting the revelrous air! Per-haps they had not realized the rate at which they were speeding as they drank from the golden vessels and desecrated the altars of the Most High. People seldom do when they ride along in the chariots of gaiety and pride.... They turned to see the hand of the One who had arrested them. There it was--- writing, writing on the wall—‘MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. God hath numbered thy kingdom and finished it. Thou are weighed in the balances and found want-ing.’ Jonah was arrested for speeding from Nineveh to Tarsus, little dreaming that he would be caught... Saul of Tarsus was arrested for speeding on the road to Damascus as he haste upon his high horse of au-thority to destroy the Christian converts. ‘Let me get hold of these Christians once. I will make them re-nounce their faith. I will haul them before the magis-trates and bring them bound to Jerusalem!’ Suddenly there came a sound. God’s traffic officer rode up be-side the now trembling Saul. Piercing, blinding, searching, there shined ‘round about him a light from Heaven: and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying, ‘Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?’..... No matter how bold a man has been before, he is usually docile when the arresting officer speaks.”

Sister Aimee goes on to say, “The Master still has his motor officers upon Life’s thoroughfares. The Cross of Jesus Christ still stands at the intersection, bidding us STOP on the Road to Destruction--- LOOK to the Lamb of God---and LISTEN that we may hear His voice and accept his great Salvation.”

Sister Aimee has asked the question, “ARE YOU SPEEDING PAST THE CROSS OF SALVATION?” During this sermon she said, “As I ride up beside you and plead with you to stop speeding past the Cross ---stop riding over and mangling the bleeding body of your Lord. See, His arms are stretched out to you this moment. His voice invites you. Will you not say to Him, ‘Loving Savior, I surrender now to Thee?’ He will set the joy bells ringing in your heart....feeling as though you were walking on air, and your life will be a happier one than ever you have known.”

If Sister Aimee were here right now, she would probably tell you that no matter how much speeding or how much sinning you have done, God sent his Son to pay the fine for us by taking our punishment upon His Cross. You are not alone. For in Romans 3:23 God’s word tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. And, in Romans 6:3, we are told the wages of those sins is death. Therefore, there is a gap between man and God. Man has tried all kinds of ways to reach God. Some of those ways are doing good works, philosophy, church member-ship and/or attending once in a while, and giving money to worthwhile causes. Even though some of those things are good in themselves and indicate good character, God has provided only one way to bridge the gap. The only way is Jesus Christ! Acts 4:12 says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no name under which we must be saved.” Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

There is a lot going on in the world right now which has caused many of us fear and panic. Wouldn’t you rather go through it with Him than without Him? Please pray this, with your whole heart, “Dear God, my heavenly Father, I confess that I am a sinner and have been separated from You. I ask forgiveness of my sins. I repent and accept this gift of repentance and I wish to be free in you. I confess with my mouth that your son Jesus is my Savior and died for me. I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. I receive Jesus into my heart and ask Him to become the center of my life. I ask, in the Name of Jesus. Amen." If you have prayed this and/or wish to talk, call us at 239-267-8641

Blessings, Pastor Tom (SW ABATE Chaplain and Estero River ABATE Life Member) and Pastor Kathy (SW ABATE Life Member) Foursquare Chaplains - 239-267-8641 or email: [email protected] PS. Messiah’s Messengers was in existence six years before we knew that the founder of our Foursquare movement, had used a motorcycle to reach souls for the Lord. As such, we will have to give her the title of the first Messiah’s Messenger and present her with our colors and a patch posthumously! LEGISLATIVE REPORT ~ JULY 2014 Submitted by Ken “TEDDYBEAR” Miller

Good Morning Freedom Fighters:

Congratulations to all of our new board mem-bers. I look forward to working with all of you over the next year, and a special thank you to all of our members for your continued support. Legislatively speaking, I think that this year is going to be a very exasperating for motorcyclists, espe-cially in Washington, DC. At the state level, our legisla-tive efforts were shot down early in the session and did-n’t even make it out of the first committee in either the House or the Senate, and as of this writing, I still have-n’t heard anything about out appropriations efforts. I will be working with Gov. Scott’s campaign locally, maybe I can find out something that way. As soon as I know something I will pass it along. As I’m writing this, the special election for Con-gressional District 19 is only two days away, and the August 26 Primary Election will be on us before you know it.

Considering everything that’s going on at the state and federal levels, it will be very important that motorcyclist’ voice be heard at the polls. So do your homework on the candidates and the issues, and vote for the candidate of your choice.

At the local level, County Commissioners will be voting on putting term limits for County Commissioners on the ballot in November so voters can weigh in on the issue. Commissioner Brian Hamm is sponsoring the measure.

SCOTT GETS BILL ON HIT & RUN ACCIDENTS

The Legislature on Tuesday sent four bills to Gov Rick Scott, including a measure (SB 102) that would toughen penalties for drivers who leave the scenes of serious traffic accidents. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, R-Miami, is named after Aaron Cohen, a 36-year-old bi-cyclist who was killed in a 2012 hit-and-run accident on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami-Dade County. In part, it would create a four-year minimum mandatory sentence for drivers who leave the scenes of accidents involving deaths.

The other bills sent to Scott were a measure (SB 230) that would create the Central Florida Expressway Au-thority, a measure (HB 41) that would establish the Flor-ida Law Enforcement Officers' Hall of Fame and a measure (SB 132) dealing with specialty license plates. Scott has until July 2 to sign, veto or let the bills become law without his signature.

SCOTT SIGNS WARNING SHOT BILLS Scott also signed two gun bills:

The so-called "warning shot" bill allows people to show guns and fire warning shots if they feel threatened. The bill (HB 89) adds immunity for threats to use force to Florida’s "stand your ground" self-defense law. The House sponsor, Rep. Neil Combee, R-Polk City, has said the bill was inspired by the case of Marissa Alexander, a Jacksonville woman who was faces 60 years in prison under the 10-20-Life sentencing law for firing a warning shot during a domestic dispute. Democrats in both chambers tried unsuccessfully to amend the bill to remove a provision allowing records to be expunged if people who claim "stand your ground" are found innocent. They said keeping open the records would make the laws success or failure easier to track. But Republicans argued that people who are forced to defend themselves shouldn’t have a criminal record as a result. Scott signed another gun bill with a nickname, the “Pop Tart” bill, so called because of its connection to reports of a Maryland 7-year-old who was suspended from school for chewing his breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun. The bill (HB 7029) is aimed at preventing schoolchildren from being disciplined for simulating guns while playing or for wearing clothes that depict firearms. Supporters of the bill, including the National Rifle Association, said it would bring "common sense" to school zero-tolerance disciplinary policies. There are still four bills awaiting Scott's signature or veto: SB 102, which would toughen penalties for drivers who leave the scene after serious traffic accidents; HB 225, dealing with child safety devices in motor vehicles; HB 561, relating to attorneys for dependent children with special needs; and SB 1666, designed to revamp Florida’s child welfare system.

Page 25: Southwest Chapter of ABATE of Florida July 2014

SCOTT SIGNS MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILL Gov. Rick Scott said Monday he signed a bill (SB 1030) to legalize a form of medical marijuana that supporters say will help children who suffer from a type of epilepsy that causes severe seizures. The substance, known as "Charlotte's Web," purportedly does not get users high. The bill drew heavy debate during the spring legislative session and came as voters prepare to cast ballots in November on a far-broader constitutional amendment about legalizing medical marijuana. The News Service will have a full story later Monday.

THRASHER QUALIFIES FOR SENATE RACE As the search for a new president at Florida State Uni-versity plays out, Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, formally qualified Monday to run for re-election in his Northeast Florida district. Thrasher is widely considered to be the front-runner for the presidency of FSU, where he earned bachelor's and law degrees. But it remains unclear how long the stop-and-start search process will take. Qualifying for this year's state elections started at noon Monday and will end at noon Friday. Thrasher qualified on the first day in Senate District 6, along with fellow Republican Derek Hankerson and no-party-affiliation candidate Greg Feldman. District 6 in-cludes all of St. Johns, Flagler and Putnam counties and part of Volusia County.

SCOTT SIGNS LAW TO PLACE POW-MIA CHAIR IN CAPITOL An empty chair, set up to honor people who have been prisoners of war or remain missing in action, will be the latest feature of the Capitol complex, under a bill (HB 731) signed Friday by Gov. Rick Scott. Meanwhile, a separate bill now on his desk would add a fifth state hall of fame to recognize the contributions of Floridians, this time for tourism, to the Capitol rotunda. "The POW-MIA Chair of Honor Memorial will be a reminder to all Floridi-ans of those Americans who have been prisoners of war or are still missing in action, that we should never forget their sacrifices in service to our great nation," Port Orange Republican Sen. Dorothy Hukill, the Senate sponsor of the POW-MIA bill, said in a prepared state-ment. The POW-MIA Chair is to be built and maintained by the Florida chapters of Rolling Thunder, Inc., a non-profit that publicizes the plight of American POW-MIAs. Meanwhile, the proposed tourism hall of fame (SB 398), sponsored by Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, would rec-ognize people in the tourism industry who have made

significant contributions to the economic climate and well-being of Floridians, according to the legislation. Wall space in the Capitol rotunda is also set aside for halls of fame honoring Florida artists, women, veterans and civil-rights leaders. Space is also set aside for the Florida Fallen Firefighter Wall of Honor and a memorial dedicated to Florida’s Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. From The MRF Washington, DC

HR 4745 WALBERG AMENDMENT PASSES On June 9th the United States House of Representa-tives agreed on the Walberg Amendment to the 2015 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Ap-propriations bill by voice vote on the House floor, re-ports the Motorcycle Riders Foundation. The Amendment offered by Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) along with Mr. Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Mr. Ribble (R-WI), eliminates a provision in the 2015 Trans-portation, Housing and Urban Development Appropria-tions act that would have allowed the Secretary of Transportation to discuss motorcycle safety initiatives with state legislators. In 1998 Congress passed a law that made it illegal for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to lobby state legislatures. Prior to 1998, ac-cording to the Government Accountability Office, NHTSA had spent tens of thousands of dollars traveling to states whenever a state debated changing their own state helmet law. Seeing this as a waste of taxpayer money, the congress prohibited anyone from NHTSA to lobby states uninvited. Mr. Walberg had this to say “This money should go to fund eliminating distracted driving, motorcycle rider edu-cation, and motorist-motorcycle awareness campaigns.” “Put simply this is a states rights issue”, said Jeff Hen-nie Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs for the Motorcycle Rider Foundation. He added “With such limited, precious funds they need to be used in areas of safety that are proven, not for bureaucratic waste.” The amendment was opposed on the floor by Ed Pastor (D-AZ). The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) thanks every-one who made calls on this important issue, your par-ticipation was key in getting this amendment to pass. The full bill was passed by the U.S. House of Represen-tatives the evening of June 10th with the Walberg amendment enacted. From Hardtail, President of the MRF

Gone. Done. Thanks! That is the short and sweet of it. In 1998, the bikers of this nation wrapped up a two-year lobbying effort with the signing of the TEA 21 (Intermodal Surface Transportation Equity Act reauthori-zation bill which became Transportation Equity Act for the Twenty First Century). In this bill was the work of the collective "we". A ban on NHTSA lobbying states to en-act laws. The prohibition of motorcycle bans on high-ways and roads that use federal monies. A change in NHTSA's mission statement to include "accident PRE-VENTION". Also, the inclusion of motorcycles in the de-velopment of the Intelligent Transportation System. Each time some of this hard-gained ground has been threatened, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has rallied constitutionally-minded motorcyclists to con-tact their legislators. The MRF issued a Call to Action on Saturday, June 7 regarding an imminent vote on an appropriations bill, Monday, June 9. With not even 48 hours with which to work, we saw a swift surgical strike by the bikers of our nation once again. Thank you - to the constituent bikers who called U.S. Congressional House members and let them know that Section 102 of HR 4745 was inappropriate; that you considered it a violation of previous agreements, and an infringement upon the 10th Amendment of our U.S. Constitution. Thank you - to U.S. Congressmen Walberg (MI) and Sensenbrenner (WI) for offering up an amendment to the bill language. Thank you - to the bikers of Michigan and Wisconsin for cultivating and maintaining relationships with your U.S. Congressional Reps and Senators so that quick resolu-tion, when needed, is possible. We are small, but we are mighty. You are why. Thank you.

2014 Memorial Day On Memorial Day we commemorate the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the military, fighting for our freedom. They did not live long enough to experience the privileges that we enjoy. Our success stands firmly on the shoulders of their sacrifice. We at the Motorcycle Riders Foundation wish you and your family a great Memorial Day weekend and say Thank You to all who have served this great country.

IRS to scrap a proposed rule on 501(c) 4 groups The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) reports that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has said it will aban-don the current proposed rule that would impact the non-profit, social welfare groups, like the MRF.

The tax agency had proposed limiting “political activity” of the nonprofits 60 days before any election. The IRS never described exactly what “political activity” would entail. Some fears were that even simple meetings with Members of Congress and their staffs would be banned under the rule. The rule could have crippled what the MRF does on a daily basis. The MRF opposed the rule and submitted comments to the agency. The IRS mentioned that they had received an enormous amount of public comment from both con-servative and liberal organizations, all against the pro-posed rule. The IRS is going to be writing a new set of proposals that will start over at square one. From the AMA: Today, the U.S. Senate is beginning consideration of an appropriations bill, which would provide funding for fis-cal 2015 for several federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Transportation. U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) have submitted and proposed an amendment to the bill that would end federal funding for motorcycle-only checkpoints. Senate Amendment 3265 states: “No funds made avail-able under this act may be used to create or operate a checkpoint that exclusively targets motorcycle operators and motorcycle passengers.” It is unclear if Senate leadership will reach a deal that will allow the amendment to receive a vote before the full chamber. Stop MOCs Please ask your senators to support S. 2078, the Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act, by clicking on the “Stop MOCs” link and entering your information and clicking the red “Submit” button. Stop MOCs For more information on motorcycle-only checkpoints please visit the AMA’s MOC webpage.

ures. In the past, it also has provided funding for special ethanol blender pumps. These pumps would be a key component in helping to expand the availability of E15 fuel, a blend of gasoline that includes as much as 15 percent ethanol by volume. The American Motorcyclist Association opposes E15 because misfueling can cause engine and fuel system failure to the 22 million motorcycles and all-terrain vehi-cles currently in operation and its use can void manu-facturers’ warranties. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has publicly acknowledged that E15 in gasoline can damage internal combustion engines by increasing exhaust tempera-tures and indirectly causing component failures. In mo-torcycles and non-road products, EPA raised engine-failure concerns related to overheating. This is why the AMA worked to eliminate funding for REAP to purchase and install ethanol blender pumps. The Agricultural Act of 2014, known as the FARM bill, also contained a provision that would deter distribution of E15 fuels into the U.S. marketplace. Despite congressional intent to stop blender pumps from being funded, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has stated he will use other programs within his department to fund blender pumps. U.S. Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), Jim Costa (D-Calif.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.) will offer an amendment that will ensure that the USDA follows the will of Congress. A similar amendment passed the U.S. House in 2011. The AMA is urging all those who want to protect their motorcycles and ATVs from unsafe fuel to contact their representative to support the Goodlatte/Costa/Welch amendment. You can email your representative immediately by en-tering your information into the form below and clicking the red "submit" button. A prewritten message is avail-able. Now more than ever, it is crucial that you and your rid-ing friends become members of the AMA to help protect our riding freedoms. More members mean more clout against the opponents of motorcycling. That support will help fight for your rights – on the road, trail, racetrack, and in the halls of government. If you are a motorcycle rider, join the AMA at the following:

AmericanMotorcyclist.com/membership/join. The president -- acting as a referee because the various federal agencies have differing opinions -- will make the final decision to lower or not to lower the ethanol levels in the mandate.

Tell President Barack Obama that you support the EPA’s initial proposal to reduce the total amount of ethanol required in transportation fuel nationwide in 2014! You can send a prewritten email to President Obama immediately by clicking the "Take Action" link. The AMA supports this proposal because it could slow or even stop the further introduction of E15 into the mar-ketplace. The AMA opposes E15 – a fuel containing as much as 15 percent ethanol – because, according to the EPA’s tests, it can cause engine and fuel system damage to your motorcycle or all-terrain vehicle and void your manufacturer’s warranty. The EPA heard from more than 10,200 motorcyclists during the official comment period! Now we need to let the president know that the EPA should stick to its pro-posal to lower ethanol mandates, which are known as the Renewable Fuel Standard. Help us counter the pro-ethanol groups with more mes-sages from motorcyclists. You can tell President Obama to stick to the EPA’s initial proposal to help protect the 22 million motorcycles and ATVs in America – and the riders who depend on their safe operation –from inad-vertent misfueling. The president is expected to make a final decision soon! Act today to ensure your voice is heard! Write a letter to the President

Here are a few simple things you can do to make sure your message gets to the White House as quickly as possible.

1. If possible, email us! This is the fastest way to get your message to President Obama or Vice President Biden. 2. If you write a letter, please consider typing it on an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper. If you hand-write your letter, please consider using pen and writing as neatly as possible. 3. Please include your return address on your letter as well as your enve-lope. If you have an email address, please consider including that as well. 4. And finally, be sure to include the full address of the White House to make sure your message gets to us as quickly and directly as possible:
