Massey Ferguson, a worldwide brand of AGCO, will introduce and display the 8700 Series high-horsepower

tractors at the World Ag Expo in Tulare, Calif. Growers looking for a tractor to help them accomplish more each day need look no further than the 8700 Series. Featuring powerful AGCO POWER 8.4-liter diesel engines, hefty hydraulics, industry-leading CVT transmissions and a redesigned cab that raises the bar on comfort, these robust machines deliver unparalleled performance while maximiz-ing operator comfort around the dairy or in the field.

With five models ranging from 270-370 maximum engine HP with 900 to 1,136 ft-lbs of torque, the 8700 Series allows growers to match the optimal model to their operation.

Unparalleled Power, Strength and Fuel

Economy AP84-4 engines power all five models in the 8700 Series. Now with twin turbochargers, these power plants feature Engine Power Management (EPM) technology to actively manage performance.

The EPM system works in harmony with the electronic fuel injection system and the transmission to optimize performance, de-livering a high torque rise at low RPMs and boosting horsepower for today’s demand-ing agricultural applications.

The new CYCLAIR cooling package improves cooling capability without increasing the size of any cooling system components, so growers get more efficient, effective cooling without compromising forward visibility. The hood and grill have been modified to increase intake airflow, while additional vents on the side let warm air out. A bypass system manages airflow to the intercooler while maintaining valuable airflow to the radiator.

The AP84-4 engines in each 8700 Series model provide more torque and horse-power, improved fuel efficiency, plus longer service intervals — now 500 hours, vs. 400 hours for previous models.

8700 SERIES _HHPTRACTORS_Continued...

Hefty Hydraulic Capability

Enhanced engine power isn’t the only upgrade for the 8700 Series tractors — hydraulic capacity has been increased significantly to 54 GPM. The updated hydraulic system provides more consistent, stable flow, so operators can tackle any task that comes their way. A 21-spline front PTO is also available from the factory, providing 1,000 RPM, counterclockwise rotation. The front 3-point hitch is great for tackling tasks like mowing or blowing snow.

Smooth and Intuitive Transmission The advanced Dyna-VT CVT transmission utilizes Dynamic Tractor Management (DTM) to synchronize engine and transmission performance. Operators can choose their ground speed, and with just the push of a button, DTM automatically matches the most efficient engine speed, holds the ground speed, and maintains power under the load. This set-it-and-forget-it technology frees operators to con-centrate on other tasks, while optimizing power, fuel efficiency and productivity.

Redesigned Cab Raises the Bar for Comfort

The 8700 Series introduces a redesigned cab to help operators stay at the top of their game. In addition to comfortable seating, clear sight lines and OptiRide Plus cab suspension, the cab features an ergonomic interior to maximize productivity. The bright, easy-to-read SIS (setup and information screen) simplifies navigation with a 50% larger screen that’s 10 times higher in resolution than the previous screen. Important settings and controls are now conveniently grouped together on one B-pillar. The ergonomic armrest provides fingertip control of key functions like hydraulics and PTO.

November 23rd, 2014 | Author: AGCO

As farmers around the country evaluate young plants at emergence, it is also the perfect time to judge whether or not their planters performed up to expectations.

“Farmers only get 30 to 40 opportunities to plant in their entire career,” said Mark Hanna, extension agri-cultural engineer with Iowa State University. “Farmers can benefit from taking a step back and evaluating how effective their planting was to make changes for next year.” Driven by pressure from higher costs, farmers expect more return than ever on their investment in seed. A consistently accurate planter plays a vital role in farmers’ ability to see their return become a reality.

Plant emergence can reveal poor planter performance in several ways, including:

1. Skips and Doubles – Skips and doubles in fields hurt farmers’ expected yield by causing two plants to share vital resources or leave precious field space un-utilized. A skip indicates an empty space in a row where seed either was not planted or otherwise did not grow. Although there can be many causes for a seed skip, the most likely cause is a problem with the planter, meaning a seed failed to drop where the farmer calibrated a drop. Often, skips and doubles are caused by a planter that interrupts and inefficiently moves seed from hopper to placement. This can be caused by improper pickup of the seed from the hopper, interruptions in the vacuum system responsible for holding the seed, or ricocheting inside the seed tube before the seed reaches the ground. If the planter fails once, it will likely fail again in another location, causing a gap in the expected amount of plant growth versus actual. A skip in one part of the field can result in a double planting in another loca-tion. When a double happens, two plants have to share water, sunlight and space rationed for one plant.“If you have doubles, two plants compete for the same nutrients,” said Randy Peterson, AGCO product specialist for White Planters. “If you notice a couple skips or doubles here and there, multiply that over your whole field, and you’re talking about real money. You’ll have wasted seed and reduced yield.”

2. Inconsistent Emergence – Plant emergence over a wide range of days hurts the entire farming cycle. When some plants grow at a faster rate than others, the tallest plants shade the shortest plants, hurting plant development. Even if the plants that emerged at a later date than others do grow to fruition, they are more likely to have varying moisture content, thus shifting the harvesting schedule and costing the farmer time and money. Timing of emergence is dependent on accuracy of the planter depth indicator through the entire depth range, proper formation of a seed trench and proper closing of the trench. Any inaccuracy or inconsistency will cause variation in the timing of plant emergence.

4. Rough Openings, Inconsistent Seed Trench Depth – Even before emer-gence, rough openings and inconsistent seed trench depth can put planter ineffectiveness on display. Inconsistent seed trenches affect plant spacing and depth and will ultimately result in inaccurate planting.“ You need to have a good seed trench for planting to go well,” Peterson said. “It’s the foundation for the seed to drop into, and it needs to be perfect. It should look like a wall, so the seed has room to be positioned correctly before the soil moves in around it.” Offset opener discs create uneven wear, causing additional maintenance intervals and a seed trench that may require positioning the gauge wheels trailing the point of seed delivery allowing for inconsistent depth of seed placement.

The most important evaluation to make about emergence is unified timing,” Hanna said. “Equal emergence and plant spacing provides plants that grow at the same rate, gather sunlight, nutrients and moisture equally and pollinate at the same time for higher yields. This is an ideal time of year to get out and read your field and your planter’s report cards.”

The recently released White Planters™ 9000 Series can help growers combat these types of emergence problems by increasing planting accuracy and consistency. The 9000 Series creates smooth, consistent

3. Uneven Spacing – Unevenly spaced plants cause imbalanced distribution of sun and water. Just as doubles cause plants to fight for the same sunlight, water and nutrients, unevenly spaced seed also causes irregular distribution of shared resources. If seed moving through a planter has heavy contact with the equipment, interruptions in movement can cause inefficiencies in spacing. Most planters use air systems to convey and secure the seed before dropping it in the ground. When these air sources are interrupted, spacing and seed singulation can suffer.

seed trenches using opener discs that have opposing double row bearings for durability and each of the discs shares the cutting duties equally. Then, the 9000 Series uses a positive air system to move the seed through the planter, instead of a vacuum or mechanical delivery system. This allows for seed to uniform-ly filter into the seed disc, which holds seed steadily in place with cells as they rotate through the seed meter, ensuring crops are planted a consistent distance apart.

The positive-pressure system in the 9000 Series moves the seed without damaging the seed coating or drawing in dust or debris — preventing buildup and therefore skips and doubles. Once the seeds are ready to go into the ground, the 9000 Series edge-drop system ensures seeds drop as short a distance as possible for accurate seed placement. Seed tube clips hold the tube securely to the shank, preventing ad-ditional movement that could compromise results. The White Planters patented depth calibration system provides farmers with the confidence that the depth they have specified using the adjustment handle and indicator is accurate through the entire depth range.

“it’s in my blood, I love being able to work with my

family. There is nothing better than loading up the kids and spending the day with them

while at work.”

>>>Aside from farming and ranching, Josh’s other love is rodeo. After high school he received a rodeo scholarship for bare back riding at Utah Valley University. Rodeo has played a huge part in Josh’s and his family’s life. This is how he met his wife Katelen, who is also involved in rodeo as she team ropes and barrel races. Together they have traveled all around the country pursuing their dreams and have seen great success.

After college as Josh traveled around pursuing a rodeo career he also brokered hay. This led him to begin thinking of owning and operating a hay farm of his own. “I always ran out of hay before I ran out of customers, so I wanted to purchase land to grow my own hay on.” While on his way to a rodeo, Josh traveled on highway 30 through Grace, Idaho. He liked the area so much he ended up buying 800 acres and began Adams Hay Company. Starting up your own company isn’t easy; it takes a lotof time and hard work.

Fortunately, Josh had a great partner-his wife. Katelen hasbeen a huge part of the operation. For the first couple years they didn’t hire any employees so she helped with moving pipe, driving the swather, and loading hay. Over the years they have expanded with custom cutting and baling which now consists of around 4,000 acres per year on top of their own ground. In the summer they employ six people to help out. Josh has plans of expanding the opera-tion by acquiring more land as well as venturing into other products such as oil seeds.

The equipment that Adams Hay Company uses in their operation is two WR9770 swathers,

a MF8480 tractor, a MF 2190 baler, a couple of Darf rakes, a Kubota M135 tractor and they are renting a MF8650 tractor. With Hesston’s rich heritage and knowledge of the hay industry, along with their huge support with rodeo, Josh has become a very loyal customer to this brand. With the dealer support that Agri-Service brings Josh states “I can get what I need when I need it.”

When asked what he loves about farming Josh said “it’s in my blood, I love being able to work with my family. There is nothing better than loading up the kids and spending the day with them while at work.” He also loves the security of agriculture. “Everyone needs to eat and with more and more people in the world, agriculture is always going to be needed.” Josh is on the forefront of bringing new ideas into the ag world and continuing to educate people about ag. He joined a group called Ranch Management Consultants. This group gets together multiple times per year to discuss new ideas and better ways to educate others about the importance of agriculture.

Outside of work, Josh enjoys spending time with his family which consists of his wife and four children, two boys and two girls. Together they enjoy anything outdoors including boating and fishing. Josh is very busy with everything he has going on and we want to thank him for everything he does for the agricultural industry. Its people like him that make our industry the best in the world.
